I have an object graph in which most nodes contain generic Dictionary objects of other classes. After looking at IXmlSerializer I can't decide whether to go this route, or just derive all my dictionaries from a serializable dictionary. If I implement IXmlSerializer, I would then require each element of my dictionary to also implement this interface, so I can call WriteXml on each one, but what happens if the dictionary element is a built-in type, such as string?

Hi Frnds,
How do we convert decimal value to hh:mm:ss format in .NET 2.0?
Eg: How do I convert 2.5 to 02:30:00 format?
Thanx in advance

Directly, i think nothing else is available.
Write a parser function where u do the conversion and provide the result.

DateTime dt=DateTime.Today.AddSeconds((int)(3600*myNumber));
gives a DateTime object, its ToString() will support the format you want.

Luc,
Thanx very much for your reply. Actually I get total minutes & that I need to convert in to hh:mm:ss format.
Initially I thought of converting the minutes (lets say 2250 minutes) it to total hrs & then converting it to hh:mm:ss format (i.e. 2250/60 = 37.5 & then I try converting this value to hh:mm:ss format)
To put it straight do we have any technique for converting the total minutes into hh:mm:ss format
i.e 2250 minutes needs to be converted into 37:30:00 format.
Thanx in advance

I have shown you how to do it for seconds, you can work it out yourself from there.
There is such a thing as documentation.

Hi,
I need a TreeView control with the ability to rearrange nodes and with the insert indicator (the horizontal bar) that you get in "Favorites" in IE when you add or drag-drop a link. I'm pretty sure how to do the rearranging bit, but how do I get the insert indicator when an item is dragged around in the treeview? Do I have to draw it myself? And if so, how can I do that?
Thanks!
|

You have to do it yourself. The TreeView has events for drag and drop operations but it won't draw anything for you. Check this[^] out for an example. It uses icons, but you could modify it to draw a line like IE.
Take care,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Finally an answer Thanks! there are a lot of helpful stuff in that article! I also need to drag a semi-transparent icon as the article explains, so that's really cool. By now I'm actually drawing the line myself as you also suggest. I think I need to work on it a little bit, though Thanks again.

Hi all ,
My .Net App ConnectionString(used to connect to sql server) is stored in app.config and is protected , now I'm gonna use clickonce deployment to publish my app on workgroup environment , also I have used "The application is available Online only" Option in clickonce deployment , How can I set connection string for my clients? Note that all clients are going to connect to sql server using the same SQL Server Login ,
Thanks in advance

When you are publishing the application by using ClickOnce, the yourapp.exe.config file will be included in your deployment folder. No need to worry about what you have stored in app.config file. Your application will work as usual. If the user download the application, the app.config file will be downloaded into his/her ClickOnce client cache folder.

Thanks , but
Where is the client deployment cache folder located?
and another issue is that Should Visual Studio be installed on the server machine or I can publish my app in my pc and then transfer it to Server pc and share it for other clients?
Thanks in advance

You are publishing your application on the server directly. If you need to add or modify the required dlls that you already published on the server, you can use MageUI to make changes. then, you can give the installation URl to client to install your application.. then your application will be downloaded to the client machine (under ClickOnce Deployment Cachae folder e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Apps\2.0) and will run the application..

I'm not developing the application in the environment that the server is located , I'm at home and working on project and the server pc is in the customer office somewhere else, In this situation how can I deploy the app?
And would you please talk more about MageUI and how to access it?
Thanks in advance ,

You can just copy the published folder that you have published in your machine. In server, you can paste your folder on the server. then create the virtual directory on that server m/c and point it to your folder. that's all you need.
DotNetWWW wrote: would you please talk more about MageUI and how to access it?
You can type megaui on VS 2005 commandline. (not normal commandline).
I highly recommend you to read "ClickOnce Deployment Documentation.pdf" from "ClickOnce Community Resource Kit".
The main reason why we need megaui tool is that it allows us to add the dlls without republishing the application. another thing is that if you are publishing the application, you have to add the dll to your project.. There are some cases that you don't want to add those adds.. (e.g CAB projects or SCSF project.) For that case, megaui tool helps a lot..

Thanks a lot for your great help ,
Michael Sync wrote: then create the virtual directory
Is it obligatory to create a virtual directory? Or it is enough to share that publish folder on server?

What is the problem if we republish the app?The clickonce deployment checks the app for updates when the client runs it , isn't it?And if we use "The application is available online only" , do we need to be worry about updates?because the app always runs the latest version directly from server?!
Also my app has some fonts required to be installed and some files to be copied to client Application Data Folder , I think I should create a windows installer setup for that , yes?
Thanks a lot again

Is your server the web server? If yes, it's not necessary to create the Virtual directory. The main reason why we create the VD is that we don't want to use the "Folder Sharing" for that. If someone wants to install the ClickOnce application, they will access this application through URL..

No. You don't need to worry about the updates but we don't use that option in our projects.

I don't know about that.

Why?
|
|
|
|

DotNetWWW wrote: Why?
Because we want our application to run offline too. Because we don't want our employees to go back if the connection is down.. Another reason is that we used the dynamic updates (from code) to get the latest updates. So, we want to disable "The application should check for updates" option.

Thanks agagin ,
My app is based on SQL Server 2005 , so if the server is down , running the application in offline mode will be useless , Am I Right?
And when I use Online Only option , the "ApplicationName.application" runs the latest version , Am I Right?

Yeah. You are right.

Thanks , another point is that when I use Online Option , Where the application.exe.config for each client is saved? as I told you that my app connection string is stored in app.config?
and in Online Only option , the app is not cached in clinet machine anymore , Am I Right?
Thanks a lot , my friend

Hi,
I'm a WMC newbie and i need some serious help concerning the click-to-record feature as described below:
I need to schedule a TV recording programmatically. To do this, i need to catch the event whenever a user clicks "Record" and prompt him/her with a dialog. The user will then have the choice of performing a "regular" schedule or a schedule from a proprietary service.
Can you plz give me a kickstart on the issue above?
Thank you.
Ps. Sorry for posting here but i have no idea as where i can post this message
