chanzeb wrote: Servlets
They are basically J2EE server side elements and need JSP/EJB programming.
chanzeb wrote: Applets
Very much. You can either use APPLET or OBJECT tag to embed applets.
chanzeb wrote: Xml
System.XML namespace
chanzeb wrote: XHTML
It is the mainstream dialect of your website.

JavaScript for a webpage is like a sugar in coffee.

Servlet can't be used. Because both works on different architecture. But ASP.NET can call a webservice where servlet might function internally. Applet you can use, because it works on client side.

I'm also not sure why you want to use them. Can you tell me why? You are using ASP.NET, right? so, forget about those Java things.

How about applets? At the moment, I don't think we have a competing equivalent from the Microsoft Camp.
1) Argue as 'ActiveX' but you are confronted with security issues, DLL Hell and all those stuff.
2) Argue as Winforms .NET Control and you force your users with downloading of a 23 mega bytes runtime vis-a-vis a Java Runtime that is just about 12 mega bytes.
3) Applets do have a good cross browser and cross platform reach. And you have a good chunk of users using FF, who you can forget.

I think Silverlight can do whatever applet can or a bit more. I do agree that applets are good, but I have seen very less websites which uses this.

As Nav said, we have Silverlight. But As I'm not Java Applets developer, I'm not sure about the usefulness of applets. Can you give me some examples that we have to use applets or can't be done with MS technologies?

You are trying to connect to SQL server from a remote machine. By default SQL Server won't allow remote connections. You can enable this in the surface area configuration section. Then restart the service. If your server is having a static IP and you are accessing using that, make sure that no firewalls are blocking SQL server port.

It's not possible to do this in ASP.NET. If it is a stand alone application, then check Directory and File classes for getting appropriate methods.

It's strange. Can you show us the code that you wrote for connecting the database?
accessred wrote: how can i set IE as default browser again??
If you are using IE7, there is an option that you can set the IE as the default browser in Internet Option.
OR
Go to "Set Program Access and Defaults" and there is an option for that. You will know what to do if you are in that panel..
