Strange, I used ClientId for the same purpose the other day and it worked fine.
I'll give more detail of what I did as it may help you solve your problem.
I have 2 nested user controls and on the inner control I have a hidden input field with runat server:
<input id="text1" runat="server" type="hidden" />
At runtime the id is: userControl1_userControl2_text1
I use this.text1.ClientID when writing out a script block using ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock and it writes out userControl1_userControl2_text1 correctly.
Hope this is of some help

I have done a LOT of this in recent times, and ClientID has never once failed to work for me. There's something else going on in your code, are the controls dynamically generated, or are other controls dynamically generated/added to the page after you get the Id ?

It's some of the worst... If this doesn't get a decent upgrade for vs2010 I'm gonna be shocked! The .NET Framework are getting so huge, the need for a scalable documentation system is crucial!

If they run on the client side, you can embedd them in your HTML, it doesn't matter that it was created using ASP.NET. If they run on the server, then I suspect not, at least, not easily.

Hi all,
I am using asp with the Session state managment. The problem i am having is with IE7. instead of using a cookie like Firefox does, it puts the ID in the URL (http://"webaddress""sessionid"/default.aspx). if i set up IIS to use cookie only, the session state is forgot. At the moment the Session state mode is "InProc" and the Cookieless mode is "AutoDetect". Is there something i should be doing to make IE use cookies instead of the URL? (this website is on a intranet)
Thanks
Scott

I fixed this by using the IP address instead of the machine name and it worked, although a little strange. Any ideas why this is?

You use a OBJECT tag to achieve this.

You use a IMG tag for this.

I have been searching for a way to solve a problem all morning and can't seem to find any useful results on Google - I'm sure there will be a short answer to this, but I can't seem to get the right search string! I would appreciate any pointers that people can give me.
I have created a custom control to allow tabbed browsing. The principle is that the developer can use a multiview and view controls to create their content, and my control will generate buttons to look like tabs. When tabs are clicked the corresponding view will be shown.
I would like my control to have a property detailing all of the tabs it will contain including data for the caption and the View it targets. So far, what I have is:
<br />
public struct ButtonTarget<br />
{<br />
public View targetView;<br />
public string buttonCaption;<br />
}<br />
<br />
private ButtonTarget[] m_Tabs;<br />
public ButtonTarget[] Tabs<br />
{<br />
get { return m_Tabs; }<br />
set { m_Tabs = value; }<br />
}<br />
The problem is that the properties window in design view does not allow me to easily edit this property, so I would like to create a property page to allow the developer to easily edit the value of the property at design time.
I am aware that the code achieve the same effect is very simple just by creating a new button for each view on the form and adding an event handler, but the reason for using a control is to be able to reduce the amount of code on each page, and to allow dynamic adding of tabs at runtime more easily.
Thanks,
Chris

I'm not quite sure if this is a problem you are having or is something you are trying to do!!!
I'll assume the latter, place 2 Panel controls on a page with the Visible property set to false and add the relevant content to the 2 panels. In the OnClick of the button check if the first panel control is visible, if its not the set its visible property to true and so on....

You can also achieve this with partial classes because at the end only one page will render.

is there anyway we can see your webpages?
What exactly does 'not display properly' mean? i.e. not displayign at all, displaying left of where its meant to?
cheers

Without seeing your HTML/CSS there's not a lot I can do to help, but I can offer you a piece of advice. When you develop a website don't develop it against IE6. Instead, develop it against FireFox and then view it in IE6. You may find some differences in appearance, but these are generally well known and are documented in sites such as alistapart[^]. You can then make the tweaks indicated to get it to run in IE6 (possibly using Quirks mode).
