Chris,
thanks for putting up with all the geeks.
Would there be enough interest to have "Registry forum"?
Have a great 2008
Cheers

I have a few observations with respect to the forum FAQ link (http://www.codeproject.com/script/Forums/FAQ.aspx[^]).
1) The very first opening sentence "Click on the 'New Thread' " seems to be incorrect. Currently it reads as 'New Message ' and not Thread.
2) We can also give a link to Forum Posting Guidelines here. Currently the mostly commonly referred comprehensive guideline set is http://www.codeproject.com/scrapbook/forumguidelines.asp[^].

I feel that the smiley link for messages (http://www.codeproject.com/script/Forums/emoticons.aspx[^]) is kind of redundant.
I would suggest that the existing smiley set below the formatting buttons display the most commonly used smileys along with a More button similar to that of Microsoft Word Toolbar. When the user presses the button, the smiley DIV should be expanded to contain all other smileys contained in the emoticon page.
And the keyboard shortcuts for the smileys can displayed as a Windows Tooltip.
The current emoticon page can be used as a simple table guide on the smileys along with a breif description.

Can the message posting textbox be also given with bullet list facility? Most of the rich text editors come up with Number Bulleting or Unordered Bulleting.
This would greatly help in numbering the points automatically instead of we typing the numbering each point in a typical message.

We don't have a rich text editor for message postings.
Yet.

You mean like:
Item one
Item two
Item three

I tried to apply a filter 'Unanswered Questions' in 'Suggestions/Bug Reports' forum. It displayed it had 4 pages. But when I pressed the button 2, it brought me the following response
Unanswered Suggestions and Bug Reports Questions<br />
<br />
Below is the list of unanswered questions for the Suggestions and Bug Reports forum. To return back to discussion page, click here
Actually, the expected responses would be:
1) After "Below is the ... forum", a centered text like ("No more messages meeting your criteria".
2) Disabling the pagination control itself.

The profile modifying page is refusing to update with the error like 'Display Name exceeds 50 chars'. Since classic CodeProject was accepting this, it is forcing the user to change it now.
Also, the markups are being trimmed.
Any help?

The profile mody page is working exactly as we have asked it to.
50 characters is enough for a display name. If you want to add HTML then you have to work within that 50 char limit. If you try and sneak by using malformed HTML we'll correct the HTML first, then check the length, and if it's too long we strip and clip.

VDK, why do you need 50 characters anyway?

I just observed that the entire string is only 48 characters and not 50 characters. I have copied the entire textbox value and tested with a simple Javascript.
I think the HTML check is erring somewhere. Grr...
test.htm
<Script Language='JavaScript'><br />
var strTest;<br />
strTest = '<font color=blue>Vasudevan <em>Deepak</em> Kumar';<br />
alert (strTest.length);<br />
</Script>

The corrected and well-formed HTML must be less than 50 chars.
<font color=blue>Vasudevan <em>Deepak</em> Kumar will be corrected to <font color="blue">Vasudevan <em>Deepak</em> Kumar</font>

I think what VDK means is that he is not changing his display name. His existing display name is probably greater than 50 characters.
So when he tries to update some other setting, like say his password - it throws the error.

Just noticed an issue with the Display Name after Nishant clarified the query. My entire display name is 48 characters (2 character less than the stipulated limit).

When the 'Email' option beneath the message is used to contact an author, it should not truncate the message. The truncation is fine for the 'Reply Notification' since we can view it on the web. But I think the email option should not resort to truncation and should send the full message.

On top of every forum name, we have the list of Forums mentioned. I guess, in Classic CodeProject, every forum name when mouse-hovered used to come up with a breif Windows Tooltip. Has this changed? I don't get one now.
