I'm fairly certain that the hosting company I'm working with has some kind of firewall enabled but it's also their SQL server that I'm trying to access.
How would I check to see if port 1433 is open?
Thanks for replying, Cheers

You could try to ping it. Most likely your web host won't allow traffic in and out of the port over the web. My web host doesn't.
Out of curiosity, who is the web host?

I should've realized that the simplest answer is usually staring you in the face
The site is being hosted by Network Solutions. And I've figured out the connection, I was using the wrong connection string format. Sometimes it just takes that second cup of coffe and a quick chat about the playoffs at the water cooler to realize your obvious simple mistakes.
Thanks for the help, mate.

I think QueryAnalyzer might use NamedPipes and hence pass through. How about ASP and ASP.NET? I think TCP should be enabled in server configuration. Isn't it?

This is the first time that I've worked with an outside hosting company, and they do support ASP. I've been writing the server side code in ASP and using VBScript for the included connection functions and some page load events. As far as I can tell the connection string shouldn't be blocked by the firewall and since the SQL server is running at the hosting complex, I assume, I'm not sure what else could be causing the problems.
Thanks for the reply,
Cheers

Do you mean a language other than English? Just type your words in the language of your choice. If you mean you want the user to select which language they want then... well, that's quite a different thing entirely and not really something that can be explained in a forum.

Please be more clear as to what you are trying to do.

This is a simple table code I have attempted to write but for some reason it displays quite a few lines down from the top and I cannot figure out why. Any suggestions?

I think it's due to Cellpadding. Try reducing cellpadding value.

I have a link on my asp webpage to open a .ppt file in a new window. The file opens fine in IE 6 and FireFox. In IE 7, it opens PowerPoint with a blank slide. But if I right click the link on my webpage and save locally I am able to view the contents of the powerpoint. What is going on? Is IE7 blocking the content?

I have been searching the site for articles (and how to's) about developing digital gauges and dashboards (for the presentation of real time data), I have found only one article.
I would like to develop an application that is web based (to keep the foot print to a minimum) it is being developed for fun (not for commercial use but it needs to be robust). The data will be real time, (e.g. wind direction, wind strength, GPS data, etc) Some of the data will be from NMEA devices. I would much appreciate;
1) Articles from others (code snippets would be great!);
2) Suggestions on the best language(s) to use.
3) Other websites to visit - I have searched the Internet and only found commercial stuff, - i.e. companies selling packages - most don't look too convincing! (or they want an arm and a leg!!!).
4) Any other suggestions.

Sciencez

Morning guys.Im looking for a script I can use with a database.I have a database with people's birthdates, so I need to compare that database date with a system date and if the dates match print the details of the people that celebrates.
My lil immature script looks like this.
")
end if
rs.close
set rs = nothing
end if
%>]]>

Dude, your script makes very little sense, calling functions that we can't see, using variables that we don't know how they are initialised. What do you actually need? A SQL script that selects from a table based on a date?
SELECT * FROM ATable WHERE ADate = GetDate()
Would work in SQL Server...

Hi everyone!
Currently I am investigating the potentials of browser plugins, at which I realized (beneath several other things) that the usage of webservices is very different among all available plugins. Maybe you can reassure that things related to Silverlight are as I think they are.
In case of of Silverlight 1.0 there seems to be no possibility to contact some WSDL-based webservice without some kind of a local proxy on the site where the silverlight content came from. (Typical 4-tier architecture)
For Silverlight 2.0 it says that there is planned to allow cross-domain connections (does anybody know if this will be allowed in general, or e.g. only as done by flash with some additional mechanism to define secure domains? Was there already some official statement?) and to support WS* (since I found only blogs and no official statement going into details: Does that include WS-Secure for sure?)
I am grateful for all comments, and I am open-minded about discussion!

You cannot cast a string into a OleDbConnection object.

Did you try missing out .ConnectionString property? Try this:
Myconn.ConnectionString =ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["LocalOledbServer"];
Also, it is customary to have the connectionstring passed as an argument to OleDbConnection() .

Hello everybody,
I want to set a div in the vartical and horizantal center of an div.
how can i set? There is a property for text-align and vartical-align but these are for text not for any element.
please help me.
Thank you.
Dipak

|

For horizontal centering you need to set the style "text-align:center;" on the outer DIV and then "margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;" on the inner DIV. This should work for all elements in Firefox as well as Internet Explorer.
|
|
|
|
|
You are right...
You can also centralize as follow:
margin: 0 auto;
Cheers!
