Yes, the "length" property returns an int

Hi all,
I have a Dropdown of items which on "onchange" eevent fires an XMLHttprequest to calculate its Mrp. I m showing this mrp in a label field.
I m setting the value of the label using javascript like
document.getElementById("Label_MRP").innerHTML=xmlHttp.responseText
But when i submit the values Label_MRP.Text yields me null. What can be the problem????BTW Label_MRP is an asp Label control.

Try assigning this value to a hidden textbox also, and get value from that textbox in server side. Label is rendered as HTML SPAN. Setting value to it from client side can't maintain value when page posts.

You can use Windows media player or Direct show. What do you mean by "Support Microsoft Technologies" ?

I don't think that ASP.NET can record voice. It works on the server and returns HTML tags to the browser. So it can't handle with recording sound.

Hai all,
I am having a AJAX page in which a tab holder is there.
When the tab is selected according to the selected tab different images has to be displayed in the tab.
This I have performed through the code.
The image path is well formed and I am rendering through the HTMLWriter, but the image is rendered in IE 6 but not in IE 7.
Can any one tell me how to resolve this.
Best Regards,

I am just getting started with DataGrids in .NET 2.0 and am trying to figure out how to do the following:
I have a DataSource returning columns from a table. One of the fields contains a code. For example, the field is 1 character in size and contains 'A', 'E', 'L', or 'U'. These stand for "Active", "Expired", "Locked", and "Unknown", respectively.
How do I get my datagrid to show the word instead of the code letter? I don't need a DropDownList in the DataGrid column since it isn't editable. I suppose I could use one if it's readonly, but that seems like overkill since all I need is the text.
Thanks.

You could handle the DataGrid.ItemDataBound event and do something to replace the code with text.
However it would be easier to do this in your database query, joining your main table to a lookup table that contains the code descriptions and returning the description instead of the code.

Thanks. I wasn't going to create a master table for code values but in the end that seems best. That way I can keep the program logic smaller and it helps document the whole code system too.

the follow is my way to solve it.
i can code a public method in the cs code..
public string getCompele(string strValue)
{
string strReturn = "";
switch (strValue)
{
case "A":
strReturn = "Active";
break;
case "B":
strReturn = "Expired";
break;
case "C":
strReturn = "Locked";
break;
case "D":
strReturn = "Unknown";
break;
}
return strReturn;
}
in the aspx code, i can use the method to get what i want,like this.
<asp:label id="Label2" runat="server" text="">]]>' style="width: 119px;"
i don't sure if this way can help you.
Study...

Thanks for the reply to this one. I went with the other solution posted, but this helped me understand the binding mechanism a lot better. Up until now we've done everything programmatically here. Thanks.

Hi all,
I'm busy with a site in ASP.NET 3.5 (Visual Web Developer Express 2008).
The idea that I'm busy with is when I create a new user that will have access to the site to create a unique login for them in to the database at the same time, so when the user logs into the site the SQL connection string will be generated for that user to access the database.
As the first time I am attempting something like this I thought I will ask CP for they views regarding this... will it work or is it just a waist of time?
The main reason that I want to do this is to have an audit table that will track any and all changes made on the database, but I want to set it up on the database self (via triggers or something) so when a change made it logs the user, table, column, prev value and new value etc.
This is for when the users phones and says that it used to work and all of a sudden by some unknown mysterious force it is no longer working or changed by itself.....
Anyways, back to the question....
So I started the site using DAL, BLL and then the design tier, can I use a default connection string to build my DAL and BLL and then at run time just change the connection string to use the appropriate connection string details that should be used by that user??
Any suggestions, help, comments will be appreciated
Thanks in advance

If you are going to create SQL Users when the user first uses your site, what SQL account will create the users?
What I would do is create an application user (sql log in) for your application that only has access to stored procedures. Pass a UserId as a variable to your stored procedures and use that UserId for auditing.
Then set security so you are the only person who can modify the database or tables outside of the stored procedures which have auditing logic built in.
I didn't get any requirements for the signature

Only the admin user can create users on the site, so they will have their own sql user already created. When he/she creates a new user on the site it will create the sql users as well.
The site is going to be a back end tracking system for a company, so it won't be visible to the general public (have access to it)

With Visual Studio 2003, all I have to do is:
1. Select New Project from menu.
2. Select "ASP.NET Web Application".
With 2005 I am totally and hopelessly lost. I tried "New Web Site" and had the following two problems:
1. It creates a website on a different port (not the default 80).
2. I can't see the new web site in IIS.
3. Where did the binary (dll) go? Even after I set "Output Folder" to be a specific folder and rebuilt the project, the dll is nowhere to be found.

By default VS2005 does things a little differently but you can download[^] and install an add-on to get things back to what you are used to.
If you choose to use the Web Site option and want ot use IIS you can choose HTTP in the location dropdown on the New Web Site dialog box.

Hi,
I know this is lame but im out of practice so please help.
I have a SqlDataSource that i need to access and use in the CS file. Im so used to using as getting the data as a repeater as follows, that i cant remember how to do it as a Dataset / table
protected void getTitle()<br />
{
SqlDataReader reader = (SqlDataReader)<br />
SqlDataSource1.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty);<br />
<br />
if (reader.Read())<br />
{<br />
Label1.Text = "<h1>" + reader["title_New"] + "</h1>";<br />
<br />
}<br />
<br />
reader.Close();<br />
}
So please help me grab info from the DataSource and use it as a Dataset in the codebehind.
Thanks!!!!
