Are you using Forms or Windows Authentication? if so you may need to use the location element to allow anonymous access to your upload folder. Links below:

Hey Guys,
I am working on benchmarking the performance of different web technologies including ASP.NET. In a particular case I need to calculate page load time querying 10,000 rows of data (and more) from a database. As a test, I have set a page that includes a Repeater that shows for each item an image (only path stored in db) as well as a description text.
I have used DataTable/DataReader to bind the repeater as well as datasource control. My objective is to use the best method that shows the best of ASP.NET which is why I am posting in this forum to benefit from everyone's experience. Do you recommend a different way to bind a repeater with that objective in mind?
I appreciate everyone's help.

I think you have selected proper control to show data on the page. As there is no need to modify/edit the data repeater is the best choice rather than girdview. As per my knowledge using repeater is best choice
i am putting this discussion in my watchlist

Thanks for your input. The choice of control was straight forward but thats not the case for the binding method.So I am looking forward to everyone's input.

To really improve performance you'll probably want to use a binding source that loads asynchronously so you don't have to wait before all the data is in memory before you start data binding.
I just had this crazy idea of a DataReader wrapped in an IEnumerable< DataRow > iterator yielding out DataRows as fast as they come in.

|
|
|
Very interesting idea Mark, I have a question if you may: Asynchronous Binding will not improve performance in the sense that the data binding will not complete faster than the traditional non-Asynchronous methods right? The advantage Asynchronous data access provide is that the page will be more user friendly as users will not have to wait until the binding process ends as you mentioned. But this is definetly an Advantage ASP.NET have over PHP for example as I dont recall PHP supports Asynchrounous calls I have to re-check to be sure.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

It may complete faster - I assume that when the server is retrieving the recordset its not fully utilized, and so probably could benefit from starting to databind the early records that come through.
Not sure if this would actually be worth doing - but the potential is there.
I'm talking about fetching the data async on the server for a single page execution. I just realised you might be talking about having the page be rendered, sent to the client and then asked to fetch the recordset. This might look smooth to the client, but the total time will undoubtably be greater - due to the amount of processing done client side (in javascript).
PHP probably does have some kind of async support - but I'm not a PHP developer.

hi,
I ve created a VS-2005 New --> Website. I want to use the .dll for code verification using Fxcop. But I coud not find any.Dll file (or Bin folder) even after compilation.

you need to publish your code which will generate assemblies for your code.

create a new project.
and select a classlibraryfile
and write all code there and build.
that generate a dll file.
copy paste that dll in you project bin directory and add refrence.
and include the namespace .
and use the required function.

Hi
Sorry that did not work, the value did not show in the dropdownlist
Is it because I am using asp:sqldatasource to populate it?
thanks so far

Totaly depends where are you writing the suggested lines
Could you provide the code
after binding the datasource just insert select string at 0 index it's simple
Thanks and Regards

Write that line of code after binding the data to dropdownlist

If you are using SQLDataSource, I think you'll need to add the code provided in the Databound event of the dropdownlist
|
|
|
|

i think no need to to have databound event just need to insert the string at perticular index
Thanks and Regards

sure, all you need is to insert the string at the particular index after the data binding have occured.With the databound event you can trap the binding process.

If DataSet.Tables.Count > 0 Then
dtTable = DataSet.Tables(0)
objList = CType(drpDropDown, System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList)
With objList
.Items.Clear()
.DataValueField = "value"
.DataTextField = "text"
dtRow = dtTable.NewRow()
dtRow(0) = -1
dtRow(1) = "--Select--"
dtTable.Rows.InsertAt(dtRow, 0)
.DataSource = DataSet
.DataBind()
End With

Hi all,
I m newbie to Asp.net(Vb) , In my application i want to formt grid view using html code like this
<br />
Dim dt As New DataTable<br />
Dim dc As New DataColumn<br />
<br />
dc.DataType = GetType(String)<br />
dc.ColumnName = "Description"<br />
<br />
dt.Columns.Add(dc)<br />
<br />
Dim dr As DataRow<br />
dr = dt.NewRow<br />
<br />
dr.Item("Description") = "<html><body><font color=red>Text will goes here</font></body></html>"<br />
dt.Rows.Add(dr)<br />
<br />
Me.GridView2.DataSource = dt<br />
Me.GridView2.DataBind()<br />
but the DataRow doesn't have the text property so it doesn't treat html as code it display as it is .
I know i can user gridview.row(0).item(0).text to do it but it becomes difficult to manage paging in gridview
I hope someone will understand my problem so i m looking forward for your resoponse
Thanks with anticipation

Its something you have to do with the GridViewColumn's property.
You have set the HtmlEncode property to False.

You are welcome. And one more suggestions.
Please reduce the usage of the smileys while you explaining your problems/suggestions. It may annoy the reader if they are too many.
Its ok for me. But not all the peoples think like me.
