The Read method doesn't have to read all data that you request. It returns the number of bytes actually read, so you have to loop until you have filled the buffer or until the method returns zero.
Dim offset As Integer = 0
Dim bytesRead As Integer
Do
bytesRead = stream.Read(buffer, offset, buffer.Length - offset)
offset += bytesRead
Loop Until bytesRead = 0 Or offset = buffer.Length
Return offset
Experience is the sum of all the mistakes you have done.

Google results for "vb6 calling a web service[^]". Since VB6 doesn't natively support this, you have to use other libraries and coerce a solution into working.
Some these involve using the native web service support built into the .NET Framework and writing a component in VB.NET that is exposed to COM, and writing the VB6 code to use that component. Other's depend on using various SOAP libraries to do this.
No, I don't have any examples. I stopped using VB6 the day I got my hands on the .NET Framework 1.0 Beta 1, some 6-7 years ago.

I've used the MSXML3.DLL libraries with no problem at all.
Just download the file. You can also get the SDK version. Once you have the file, set a reference to it. View its methods in the object browser and you can read the docs online.

I have a VB 6.0 exe. It reads data from an excel spreadsheet and writes to it as well. So, the excel spreasheet is like a database for it. Presently, the spreadsheet resides in a LAN.
Now I want to "INJECT" the excel spreadsheet into the executable, so that the excel spreadsheet is not a separate entity anymore, and is a part if the executable itself. Basically, how can I turn it into an intrinsic application resource?
Can someone please shed some light on how I can do this?
Thanks.

The short answer is, you can't. An .EXE, when running, cannot be modified.
The entire idea, though noble, isn't practical. You should be seperating code from data, not integrating it.

Thanks Dave. I understood that.
Actually, I intend to hide the excel spreadsheet from the user. And when I say hide, I don't mean just physically (as in changing the file attribute to hidden), but logically as well. I.e., the user should not be aware at all that there is an excel spreadsheet involved.
With that said, is there a way to covert the spreadsheet into a resoucre of some sort? Like a dll or something which will contain the spreadsheet.
Everytime the exe runs, the EXE will "upack" the spreadsheet from the resource and when done editing, it will "repack" it into the resource. Any clues regarding this mechanism?
Sorry for such vague statements, but I think I've captured the essence this time.
Thanks.

Yeah, putting the sheet into a resource is no problem - at compile time.
Bulky Fellow wrote: it will "repack" it into the resource.
Putting it back into the .EXE or .DLL at runtime is the problem. Using normal methods, once the .DLL is loaded, the file is locked until the termination of your app. Again, it can't be modified.
You MAY be able to gleen something useful from the app in this[^] article though. It copies resources between .EXE's and .DLL's, but there's a lot of hoops to jump through.

You've developed a new browser using the supplied web browser control? Why?

Hi,
As the tile says. this column will be used to specify a file path, so the user will be given a choice to write manually a file path into the textbox column or click a button inside that column and a openFileDialog will appear...
This interface is used in SQL DBMS programs, when you are attaching a database, the same dataGrid is used to locate ldf and mdf files...
Thank you!

You'll have to make you're own DataGridViewColumn for this. A full explanation of doing this is way too much for a couple of forum posts. There's simply too much detail to cover.
Search for articles on the subject of "Custom DataGridViewColumn". Results[^]

how do u fill up columns and make changes in it using grid view?
|
|
|
|
|
to fill a datagrid you attach a datasource
Utilise the edit controls to make changes to the data in the grid
Do some research - the question indicates you have done no work towards getting this knowledge.

hai,
i am using dotnet2005.i do my project in vb.net windows application.
if there are 4 rows,if i delete slno 2,the slno 3 will automatically changed as slno 2,then slno 4 will automatically changed as slno 3.
for ex,
there are 3 columns and 4 rows are displayed in datagridview from sqldatabase,
slno name city
1 guru cbe
2 ram salem
3 balu trichy
4 mahesh cbe
if i delete slno 2 means,the slno 3 will automatically changed as 2,then slno 4 will automatically changed as 3.
after i delete slno 2 means,i want to display in datagridview from sqldatabase like following,
slno name city
1 guru cbe
2 balu trichy
3 mahesh cbe
is it possible,if possible means how to do these.
or any other way to do these or any options in datagridview to generate slno with starting no 1 or using programmatically can to do these.
so any way i want to generate slno.i want in windows application.

This is automatically what happens, unless the number you're showing is an id from the database. If this is so, it cannot be changed, not easily. Just show a number other than the Id, if you want to show a row number.

Process.Start will return the handle. Assuming this is VB.NET.

I need to add the item and value in the list box. I add this using strtext and strvalue respectively.
But the strvalue i need to add is a string. so that the value when adding cannot get duplicated.
How can i add string value to strvalue
I am taking this values from two textboxes
My coding is as follows....
Dim i As Integer
Dim item As New Item
For i = 0 To ListBox1.Items.Count - 1
item = ListBox1.Items(i)
If TextBox1.Text = item.strValue Then
MsgBox("Already you have added this link", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Knowledge Base")
Exit Sub
End If
Next
item.strText = Textbox2.Text
item.strValue = TextBox1.Text
lstLinks.Items.Add(item)
txtWebLinkDescriptions.Text = ""
txtWebLinks.Text = ""
It shows that the string value cannot be bind to integer value....
May u help me to solve these please....
Thanks in advanvce........

Hi,
I think this code will help you...
Dim i As Integer<br />
<br />
For i = 0 To ListBox1.Items.Count - 1<br />
<br />
If ListBox1.Items(I).Tostring = TextBox1.Text Then<br />
MsgBox("Already you have added this link", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Knowledge Base")<br />
Exit Sub<br />
End If<br />
Next<br />
<br />
lstLinks.Items.Add(TextBox1.Text)
Thanks,
Nanda

Thank u for ur response Nanda
But, my question is how to get the value of the item in case of string
ie, since because the value i use here is a string, it displays error
as "Conversion from string to type integer is not valid"
will u please tell me how to get the string value for the item
ie, i need to use string value for item.strvalue
Thank u once again

The easy way is to build a dictionary where the key is the strValue, or just a list of strings, even. Do a search, if the value is in there, then it's been added already.

Hi,
I am getting the 'Type initializer error' in module1 (for eg see the below code). The thing is i want to get the value from the dll which is added as a reference to this exe, where the value is declared in the module. Please Review the below code and suggest/help me.
Project1.dll
Module Module1<br />
Public MyPath As String = "C:\Nanda"<br />
End Module
Public Class Class1<br />
<br />
Public Sub Query()<br />
MsgBox(MyPath, MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Project1")<br />
End Sub<br />
<br />
End Class
Project2.exe
Public Class Form1<br />
<br />
Public MyReport As New Project1.Class1<br />
Private Sub Button1_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click<br />
MyReport.Query()<br />
End Sub<br />
End Class
Thanks,
Nanda
