Hi,
I am trying to find if a local printer is connected before printing in my C# application. There are APIs of winspool.drv which give info on printer's status but not if it is connected or no.. Any ideas?

I tried the above piece of code.ManagementObjectSearcher gives error, I am using .Net 2.0. I guess this is not included in this version.
Also, this gives the name of the printer installed in the system and not connected to the system. This may work despite of the printer not being connected

Most of the companies do provide tools for documentation. Our company has a CMM portal which allows to document all these. We use XML documentation for methods, which can be exported to an XML file and styled using XSLT to produce the documentation for methods used in the project.

We generate our CHM documentation[^] using Sandcastle[^] which is free from MS, and makes rather sexy API docs. I think it spits out HTML as well, and theres a choice of templates.
It also can be a little buggy sometimes...

The error may be at this line of code, when WMI is invoked...
1) check whether Remote Procedure Call (RPC) services are running
2) try to disable firewall (if possible!  ) and run the program again

I googled around a lot for this, but it's hard to find the right search terms, therefore trying it this way, hope you can help.
I'm trying to build a small application as a class library in C# that I want to deploy in a web page.

If you google around a bit, you'll see that I found the ActiveXDotNet project as a ready example, and indeed, it shows nicely in my browser.
However, now I add a reference to a DLL that I've been given. ("Add Reference...", "Browse", pick the Some.API.dll that I've been given.)
As soon as I start using the reference, things go wrong.

From this moment forward, my class library in the web page just renders an empty area with top-left the default icon that IE uses for images that are still loading.
When I reuse the same class library on a Windows Forms application, it renders just fine.
Am I missing any common pitfalls, here? I'm I underestimating the constraints of the browser's sandbox? Should my DLL suddenly be at a more magic location? What else can be wrong? Help!

Hi guys,
Please HELLLLLLPPPPPPP! I have been working on this for 3 days now and I was able to bring it down to stack overflow error in my dataset.Select statement. I have a windows service that gathers data in a dataset and then based on different configurations runs the dataset.select statement. This works and worked fine with .NET 1.1 but after migrating to .NET 2.0, I am getting the stack overflow error when too many dataset entries are generated.
Please help!

The statement I believe that is causing this is

string sSortBy = tbCondition.Rows[i]["SortBy"].ToString();

Sameer... I am using .net 1.1 datasets and our produciton application is having the EXACT same issue. Stack overflow seemly triggered by a select on a large dataset table. I don't know a strict solution yet. I may have to re-arch my appliation to eliminate this process.

Hi,
I was trying to use a treeview to retrieve some files form another servers folder. Issue is I get URI error which I know has something to do with the FileInfo object. I tried to put the http://server/file/file1/ into a string and pass it that way but could not get it to work out. SO..I am back to trying to get just the files and folders into a listbox but problem now is I get full Directory path at the top and a link that says parent directory which gives them access to other folders on the server which I don't want. If I can fix either issue it would be great but would like to have the treeview to work just can't figure out a way to get that to work without navigating totally off the page onto the servers folder. What I would like is to have the treeview work but have the folder directory populate in a Iframe or panel and only have the .xls docs and folders available. Does anyone have a better idea or is this possible to make the treeview work?

i had done like this earlier,so i'm telling to you create xml file for server folder(that's based on ur conditons and etc) after create dummies in the treeview based on the xml file.i think is is good way play with folder and treeview.
and another addition store the path in treeview tag.

I think u can't access the path or any folder and files on the server.
U have to use Server.MapPath(). Then only u can access the paths on the server.
I think it will sufficient to say.

I created a function to populate a listbox.
DirectoryInfo dir = Directory.GetParent("~\\servername\ra\reports");
FileInfo[] files = dir.GetFiles("F1001*");
listbox1.DataSource = files;
listbox1.DataBind();
But this comes back with this: Directory: \servername\ra\reports
and the hyperlink ParentDirectory. So are you saying I should try using server.mappath instead? And if so how would I use it?
