I want to kknow that if I create many datasets in my application or taking bulk of data in dataset then speed of execution will be affected?
Will this make my application work slower?
|
|
|
|
|
Well, that really depends. How many datasets are we talking, how much memory will the PC you're running the program on have, etc ? A dataset, sitting in memory, shouldn't slow your app down, because it doesn't use the processor, just sitting there.

I converted a large VB6 ap to VB.NET 2005.
I have found that a Late Binding works in VB6 but not in VB. NET when a Function is used.
Ex.
Select Case Type
case 1
LineObj = Type1
case 2
LineObj = Type2
end Select
The below works without a problem
LineObj.itemref.fullname.setvalue(mItem)
But the below fails after it does it
438 Member not found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020003 (DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND))
QBSetVal(LineObj.ItemRef.fullname, mItem)
QBSetVal does some checking and eventual does a
pObj.setvalue(mItem)
Public Function QBSetVal(pObj,.....)
pObj.setvalue(mItem)
RETURN
And the value IS SET properly but when control to returned back to the caller after the RETURN it gets the MEMBER NOT FOUND.
I do not understand how it can set the variable properly in the object but throw the error just on the return.
Can someone tell me what is occurring?
Please help!!!!

Hi Friends,
I am calling one batch file from vb program like the below code.
Dim d As Double
d = Shell("\\sysl\share1\overtime log\Overtime Log\Ext.bat", vbHide)
the above 2 lines are given in form_load event.
When I try to run this application which is having the above two lines to call the batch file from the Server : sys1 it is working fine and calling the batch file.
But when i create package and deployement of this application, and installed in other system and when i try to run the project, it gives error Runtime Error: Call to invalid procedure or argument
But the i am not getting the above error if i give the ipaddress of sys1 instead of giving the system name like sys1.
Please suggest me some ideas for this. Since my ip address is dynamic, i cannot give that address, so i can only give my sys name ....So Expecting your help.
Thanks in Advance,
Regards

Your code says sysL but your description says sys1. ie: Ell instead of One. Is this your problem?

You can create a PDF, if you buy a library to do it. In fact, there's a free library called pdf995 or something, which prints to a PDF.
There's a DrawToBitmap method on your form and it's controls you can use to create a bitmap

Hi there,
I have a problem regarding Resources.resx in VS 2005.
I have put an icon on a button on some form, then I wanted to remove the icon and use another. (I went buttons Image property -> project resources file -> import) then I tried to delete the icon from this interface, but no luck so I deleted the whole Resources folder and resources.resx And now my project wont't compile, and there is an error could not find resources...
This is kind of a bug because when this happens, couldn't just VS create another resx file and reset all resources... lame.
Any help greatly appreciated?
thanks

It's not really lame that you did something silly and VS isn't magically restoring your file.
The way to change the icon on a button, is to change the property in the designer. If you can get your resx file back to do that from.

Hi all,
I've got some code that enters data into a rich text box. Basically, I need to be able to find the line and column number of the last input so that i can do some rearranging if necessary.
After digging around, all I can find is how to get the line/column of selected text or the cursor position. So I'm wondering if it would be possible to programmatically place the cursor at the end of the last input, then get the line/column position of the cursor.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to do this (or if they can suggest a better method) I would be greatly appreciative.
Thank you.

The RTB doesn't support what you want to do natively. Also, a "line" in the RTB isn't what you think. A single "line" in the RTB can span multiple lines when rendered on screen, so using the methods and properties that returns line numbers in the RTB doesn't return the line where the text was rendered on screen.
There is no method/property to return the rendered column number. Also, with proportional fonts, the column number is a subjective measurement. The same column number, rendered on two different lines will not line up to be the same visual column.
You can use the Lines property of the RTB to get the last line of text, but keep in mind that this can represent multiple lines on screen.

Hi,
Please try the following code snippet which uses a Timer Control (Timer1), one label (lblLogin) and two button (btnLogin and btnBreak). Drag and drop above mention .Net control and give name accordingly (as mentioned in the parenthesis) and paste the following code snippet:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
BEGIN CODE
Public Class Form1
Dim tmr1 As Integer
Dim timerString As String
Dim seconds, minutes, hours As Integer
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.lbldate.Text = Format(Now(), "dddd, MMM dd yyyy")
'Me.btnLogin.Enabled = False
Me.AcceptButton = btnLogin
Me.Timer1.Start()
'
End Sub
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
'Me.lblLogin.Text = Format(Now(), "hh:mm:ss")
'tmr1 = tmr1 + 1
'timerString = tmr1
seconds += 1
If seconds = 60 Then
minutes += 1
seconds = 0
End If
If minutes = 60 Then
hours += 1
minutes = 0
End If
timerString = hours & ":"
timerString = timerString & minutes & ":"
timerString = timerString & seconds
Me.lblLogin.Text = timerString
End Sub
Private Sub btnBreak_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnBreak.Click
Me.Timer1.Stop()
End Sub
Private Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
Me.Timer1.Start()
End Sub
END CODE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope this helps .

thanks, but can this timer can stop in another form?
for example, your timer starts at form1, the timer is only set in 60 minutes. When 60 min. is over and you are in the form3 already.. it will go automatically to the last form (form10 for example). is it possible?
|
|
|
|
|
Yes, of course. How it's done depends however very much on how you move from one form to another.
Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.
