I need to draft a technical spec for an ASP.NET project very quickly, and I would appreciate some input on what you, an ASP.NET developer, would use or like to see in the spec. I already have an informal spec as a set of PowerPoint slides, and quite frankly, this is more than enough for me to build the application, and I normally work very informally with something of an iterative approach with prototyping for small projects like this. I'm plain not used to drafting specs, and not that used to working in ASP.NET.
Yes, I'm actually asking a favour of my readers here, not to think for me, but just to help me thing in a suitable way to drop quickly get done with a formality and move on to delivering the first iteration.

When I worked for a big company, the spec would include a screenshot, a description of where the user had come from, what the main path of execution being described was, and what some edge cases ( what to do with bad input, etc ) looked like. They had a standard format they followed, so I quickly knew where to look for different things, and I imagine establishing a format would really help in writing it, too.

How to upload the project on the server..........
I have designed a website in ASP.NET and also published it and uploading published files and folders on the server But it's not working fine.......
Only the Default Page or First Page is working fine and other pages creating Runtime Error...............database problem.....
But if i upload my whole project with .aspx,.cs and all other files then it works fine..........

I think I am misunderstanding your problem but whats wrong with just uploading the whole project?
Or do you mean once you upload a whole project then update with one file it doesnt work?

Does your first page use the database ? I suspect not, and that your DB is not configured properly. Your question is meaningless. You know how to upload it, what you need to do is tell us your error, and then perhaps we can tell you how to fix it.

Never upload your .cs files
Just insure to upload .aspx and .dll files (put the later in a bin folder)
upload web.config, Global.asax
upload your images (if any) incapsulated in their folders
Actually, upload everything except the code files
-If you updated your cs code, you will need to reload only the .dll files
-If you updated your design, you will need to reload only .aspx file
I think this will solve the problem

What if it's .NET 2.0 and it's not set up to compile a dll ?

So, what?
Does uploading .cs files solve it?

If it's a .NET 2.0 app, then by default, you need to upload the cs files. That doesn't solve the OPs comments, but removing the CS files is NEVER going to solve his problem whatever version he is using.

Hi i have to know regarding outproc mode...in Session State.
When we go for outproc. i.e when we go for session state and when we go for sqlserver.
I want reasons for why we have to choose these two?
If Appliction Restart is the reason, it is a rare case, then why we have to go for outproc.

Have you tried reading the MSDN documentation? Or buying an ASP.NET book?
You seem to have a habit of posting questions relating to basic information that is readily available in the documentation. If you want to be taken seriously as a developer, you have to be able to undertake basic research when you encounter a problem. Get a beginner's ASP.NET book if you are unfamiliar with the technology.

Hi!!!
I have an ASP.Net project in Beta version i want to convert that into 2.0... Any help is appreciated..
|

Which beta do you have ? If you have the VS2008 beta, there's no automatic conversion process, but b/c VS2005 will open a website from a folder, you should just be able to point to the folder and then see what happens

Thanks for clarifying the Studio version. But you still haven't highlighted what the 'BETA' qualifies on.

How could you still be using a VS2005 beta ?

True. Visual Studio trial versions normally have a 180 day expiration period right?
I think the asker is bit ambiguous in his query and needs to refine/clarify.

No I don't think google is broken, maybe they were just asking for general help from experienced people in a forum who might have come across some good articles before.
Try this one:

Can you rectify the error in below
<asp:textbox id="txttime" runat="server" text=""><![CDATA[<%DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString()%>]]>"></asp:textbox>
thanks

Please read http://www.codeproject.com/KB/tips/HowToUseGoogle.aspx[^]. Your problem is very straightforward, and I found the exact right answer with the first search I tried.
<asp:TextBox ID="BookingDate" runat="server" Text='<% #DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString() %>'></asp:TextBox>
Note the #.
