I don't think it is mandatory unless you are within a function.

I am working on a small banking application in which if suppose i have to transfer money from US to UK, I have to retrieve the latest Dollar to Pound conversion rate and the transfer the corresponding pounds to the corresponding account.
Now how do i retrieve these conversion rates in to my application. Can i retrieve these from the existing websites offering these conversion services..? If yes.. How do i do it?
Let me know if there is any other method.. Also suggest me any forums,Sites,Links or articles having info about this. Forgive me if the problem is too basic. . I am novice in this field.

If you are developing this for a bank or financial institution they will have real time feeds available through a well known api which you should have access to. If not then you'll need to retrieve the data from an online service of some description. There will be 2 types: free and pay. The free are usually at least 15 minutes behind the market and, therefore, may cost you money on the exchange. You should look at a paid, real time service.
A good free one is Yahoo. They expose much of their financial data (including FX rates) through a published api which I use on my web site to get some data of interest. Here: FX and market data[^]
You can find some good information on how to do that here: http://www.gummy-stuff.org/Yahoo-data.htm[^]
Good luck: you'll need to figure out how to code that in an appropriate manner to your skill level and language preference. Hey, got to leave you something to figure out on your own otherwise you'll never learn.

From your question, I assume that you do not have a relationship with a bank yet. All banks have in-house conversion rates for their customers, and currency trading desks with real time feeds to current market prices. Many banks just give customers a single rate through out the day.
Since the choice of source of the conversion data will vary from bank to bank, you may have to code in such a manner that you can customize your code to handle different data sources and input data formats easily. If it is just for a demonstration, you may use any of the sources from the Internet.

What kind of an application is this? The answer will vary depending on the role of the application.

Hello all!
Hope I'm not repeating topic, since I haven´t found the answer I posted this!
I'm working on a Javascript menu over a Flash movie. In IE, I see the right result but in Firefox, the menu goes behind the flash movie.
I tried the z index styling with css:
.menu {
position:static;
z-index: 10;
overflow: visible;
}
.flash {
z-index: -1;
}
And also the Transparent parameter with the code on the Flash Movie:
AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0','width','507','height','519', 'hspace','0', 'vspace','0','align','middle','class','flash','src','images/home3','quality','high', 'wmode' ,' transparent', 'pluginspage','http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash','movie','images/home3' ); //end AC code
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" width="507" height="519" hspace="0" vspace="0" align="middle" class="flash">
<param name="movie" value="images/home3.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
<param name="play" value="true" />
<embed src="images/home3.swf" width="507" height="519" hspace="0" vspace="0" align="middle" quality="high" wmode="transparent" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" />
Please, if someone knows a workaround in this, let me know!!!

I did that search already but didn't get the results I needed.
The flash movie is still playing on top of the menu, but only in firefox.
What other ideas you have?
Thank you for helping

You tried building the flash animation as "transparent windowless" and using the wmode="transparent" setting when embedding it?

I'm assuming you're talking about disabling the context menu, since you really can't disable right-clicking short of traveling to the location of each user and performing surgery on their mouse / pointing device of choice. Keep in mind, there are ways of accessing this menu besides the right mouse click.
Generally, this is a terrible idea. I like having my context menu. So do most users, at least those who know it exists. The only remotely valid reason to disable it is that you're displaying a custom context menu in its place. Which is appropriate in some situations where users will already expect to use a context menu for non-browser-specific activities (for instance, you're writing a text editor and want to include additional editing commands on the menu)... but usually, it's a complete waste of time, annoying to users who make normal use of the browser context menu and undiscoverable to the rest - and that's probably why Opera prevents you from doing so.

1 - ask in the ASP.NET forum in future
2 - does google not work where you live ?
3 - who is hiring you to write an ASP.NET website if you can't do it ?
4 - the first step is to buy a book, obviously
5 - asp is nasty, it took you think long to think about updating your skills ?
Certainly if you write an ASP.NET website as if it's ASP, you are going to make a mess. Have you done any OO programming at all ?

Such a help!!
Seriously, check out the ASP.Net Learning portion of the site where there are lots of short videos, tutes, and such. I believe they have something where you can get the basics of creating a simple website, plus the 4 Guys from Rolla cover sone stuff too. It's helped me gain some visual familiarity with Visual Studio.

Good luck!

Thanks for such a disappointing answer.
1- If I want to develop website then I thing post can be in webdevelopment
2- I am from India and google is no.1 website here. But I thought experts of codeproject will guide me better than google. I am disappointed that I was wrong.
3- Nobody is hiring me I have my own company. I want to update my skills thats why I asked this question.
4- I will buy a book obeviously if somebody will suggest me the best suitable book. I thought codeproject member will suggest me the best again I was wrong.
5- If it will take long time still I have to update my skills.
I will suggest to the experts that please encourage the learners instead of discouraging them even to ask next question at codeproject.

Well, that would be true, except we have an ASP.NET forum. My main reason for directing people when they can't work out things like this for themselves, is that more people will see your question if you ask in the right forum. This forum is for non ASP.NET web dev, which should be clear by the simple fact that an ASP.NET forum exists
Poonam Devi wrote: I am from India and google is no.1 website here
*grin* I bet it is.
Poonam Devi wrote: But I thought experts of codeproject will guide me better than google.
Well, it's kind of impossible to answer the sort of top level, 'I have no idea what I'm doing, help me' type question you asked. How can a forum reply answer 'how do I write a website in ASP.NET', and be better than a book or article ?
Poonam Devi wrote: Nobody is hiring me I have my own company
OK - well, if your desire is to update your skills, articles on the web are a good place to start, or a book.
Poonam Devi wrote: I will buy a book obeviously if somebody will suggest me the best suitable book. I thought codeproject member will suggest me the best again I was wrong.
You said 'how do I write a website in ASP.NET', not 'what's a good book to buy ?'. Had you asked, I'd have told you. Programming ASP.NET from O'Reilly was a good first book for me.
Poonam Devi wrote: If it will take long time still I have to update my skills.
Fair enough.
Poonam Devi wrote: I will suggest to the experts that please encourage the learners instead of discouraging them even to ask next question at codeproject.
I'm sorry if I discouraged you. I assure you, if you do some study and ask questions more suited to a forum reply, I'd be happy to help you. Even if you'd asked what a good ASP.NET book was here, I'd have answered as well as pointing out that you're in the wrong place to ask that.
