how come in VBScript there are no defined constants for keys like vbKeyDelete (VK_DELETE) and such? i instead have to use the real value of vbKeyDelete... 0x2E (&H2E in VBS)

Do you have the Microsoft Winsock Control 6.0 control added to your application from Components section, this would cause it?

Does anyone know how to access the Summary Tab fields in the File properties? When you right click on a file in w2k you can type an author, title, summary, etc. Is there a way you can use VB to extract this information?

I'd like to be able to copycat the process of resetting
security permission on subfolder\subregistrykey to match that of the
parent folder\registrykey.
Using VB or anything else.
Does any one have a clue on how to do that ?
I know how to set permissions but how can i reset it for the child objects?

Hi there.

I'm very new at VB programing, but got a good background in Access. I have been trying to link pictures to a access database without actually embedding them, and have succeeded! But now I'm battling to find code or control dialog to search for files (like a browser) to specify a file path. I have tried MS common dialog control, but it gives me an error to register and license the package, no matter what I try. (I did buy the original Office XP Pro Dead | X|

) Can anyone please help or any suggestions?

Ok, I want to create an object hierarchy within my application that will take care of holding some common settings as an alternative to using global vars. I also want this to be a holding area for the application level configuration info that will be read in from a few XML configuration files. My intent is to serialize this data to an XML file latter and pass the file onto some external plug in type components so they can parse through it as they need to and grab what ever configuration settings they need.

The basic gist of what I am looking for is this....

I want to have a parent class (App) to contain a few nested classes (Paths, Config, etc...), and each of these nested classes to have some properties internal to them. My intent here is to be able to create one instance of the parent class and get access to all the members of the child classes as so:

App.Paths.Path1
...
App.Config.Setting1
...

Now, what I wanted (expected to be able to do) was:

Class App

    Public Paths as CPaths
    Public Config as CConfig

    Public sub New()
        Paths = new CPaths
        Config = new CConfig

    End sub

    Protected Class CPaths

        Private _Path1 as string

        Protected sub New()
        ...
        Protected Readonly Property Path1 as String
            Get
                Return _Path1
            End Get
        End Property

    End Class

    Protected Class CConfig

        Private _Setting1 as string

        Protected sub New()
        ...
        Protected Readonly Property Setting1 as String
            Get
                Return _Setting1
            End Get

Instead what I HAD to do was make each one of the nested classes public because I could not declare a public instance of a protected nested class in the parent class constructor!!!

While this does appear to work, it also seems to allow a developer to bypass my parent class and directly create instances of my nested classes. IE They can instansiate the public members of the class directly like so:

Dim objAppPaths As New App.CPaths

This really seems to be counter productive to building this hierarchy in the first place.

Am I missing something here?

Make the nested classes and their properties Public, but make the constructors as Friend. That way, only code within your assembly can create instances of the internal class.

You may be better off using Shared methods instead, which would remove the need to create instances of the class. For example:

Class App
    Public Class Paths

        Shared Sub New()
            'Initialize your properties here
        End Sub
        Private Sub New()
            'No need to create instances of this class
        End Sub

        Public Shared Readonly Property Path1 As String

I have learned to deal with the way VB.NET has to be handled to create a control array but one thing still continues to bite me...

In VB6, if I had a bunch of label controls on a form that did nothing other than label things, I used to love to name them all the same name (thus creating a control array). Even if I was never going to use them as a control this way at least it gave me the ability to stop tons of controls that I was never going to have to reference from appearing in the dropdown box.

Now, when I go to select a control I have to wade through this long list of other controls that I am never going to use.

Am I missing something here?

I require some help from the programmers. I want to have a program which could scan all the HDD present in the network with thier Volume Serial Number ....since Volume Serial Number is the only way to uniquely identify a HDD
and store the output to a Microsoft Access Database file.

Okay, This is proably a no brainer for you folks but I am new to programming at this level, so please bear with me;

The Objective; to save the users input string to a cell after it has been verified.

The problem; when I run the code to debug it I currently get a "Runtime error 9 -subscript out of range" .

I would also ask that there must be a better way to store the password all suggestions are welcomed on that one and can anyone tell me what I need to use to mask the users input with a single repeated character.

Please don't laugh. I am using MS Access to process text files. Right now it can process one file at a time. I want it to process an entire directory. I am having a problem with the datagrid. I needed a columnstyle to display a email link for each contact that is displayed in the detail portion of a master-detail form. I found an example of a combobox and modified it for to a linklabel (oddly enough it works ... this surprised me because I am completely lost with inherit, override, overload, etc. I think I'm down to two problems: I can't figure out how to handle the clicked link (this is kind of important!) and I would like to be able to change the background color of the label to match the alternating row color.

Hi all:

I Have 2 controls in Form1 (TextBox1 and Command1).
TextBox1.Text = "111"

Then I have a class (myClass.vb) that inherits Form1
This class as a:
