I don't really like any of them, but use whatever fits best into the current project. For instance, now I work on something with lots of COM, so I use CComBSTR. On the previous job, we were making an OS-portable system, so the obvious choice was std::string.

all depends.
i used to strongly abandon C-style strings (char* and all its variants) as long as i can. of course, when I have to use the C runtime (or any C APIs), then it's the only really valid reason to...
as long as I code in C++, I use C++ strings.
I used to use the MVC pattern also. so, for my UI layer, I mainly use CString as I use MFC.
but as for my other layers (which are generally put into DLLs), i use std::string

I am having problem with HtmlView class. I am using this class to load web page from any URL. But the url, i am apecifying contains character SWf in url string. So is it possible that URL is not being able to load because of SWF word. Other sites that contains flash content are being loaded then why problem is created for below URl?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Have you tried with IE, HtmlView is based WebBrowserCtrl which is used in IE.
This site is blocked in my office PC and says it comes in Games Category may be the similar reason.

|
|

What is the reason? This is being able to open in IE7. Then why is it not being open in my application?
Thanks & Regards,

This makes no sense. What are you trying to say?

Have you tried with my given url i.e.
http://www.webkinz.com/SWF/setLocale.swf?locale=us_en[^]
Then why am i not being able to do the same? Is there something related to SWF file. I am not able to load even local swf file.
Please help further by trying with my url.
Thanks & Regards,
Hemang

Hey how can i move CClientDC object in client window using mouse ?
i did it but it show last cicle on screen. If i do Invalidate to TRUE it moves the circle but did'nt show properly in Dialog box.
if((nFlags & MK_LBUTTON)==MK_LBUTTON)
{
CClientDC obj(this);
x=(point.x)-50;
y=(point.y)-50;
obj.Ellipse(x,y,x+100,y+100);
}
Invalidate(FALSE);
So what should i do ???

You've to put the drawing stuff inside the WM_PAINT handler.
Then you'll ask for an update (outside of the above handler) whenever appropriate (for instance using a timer if you need to move continuosly).

CPaintDC obj(this);
x=(point.x)-50;
y=(point.y)-50;
obj.Ellipse(x,y,x+100,y+100);
it didn't work.And i also tried this by defining CPaintDC obj in OnPaint fucntion
x=(point.x)-50;
y=(point.y)-50;
CDC *ptr=CDialog::GetDC();
ptr->Ellipse(x,y,x+100,y+100);
these both are not working.

What do you mean with: "doesn't work"? Please detail.
BTW you have to use CPaintDC dc(this); inside the OnPaint handler.

Yes dear i add CPaintDC obj(this);
but it doesn't work properly. It leave the last effect of circle mean it moves the circle but the some effects of circle remain on the screen.

Do you properly invalidate the painting area?

I made a test, and, of course , it works well.

Where you are calling Invalidate, is it after painting in the OnPaint Handler?
And are you still drawing in the move handler?
In the Move Handler just update the position to member variable and invalidate the client region, invalidate will cause the paint to happen, And in your OnPaint Handler draw the ellipse, don't call invalidate in OnPaint Handler.
If you are not painting the background by overriding the OnEraseBkgnd method, then also previous ellipse remains on the DC.

|
i invalidate in OnmouseMove handler not in onPaint function
