Hi,
I'm wondering if this can be done. I have a drop down list that I populate with data from a table. I'd like to add a "Please Select" to the drop down list and make it the first item on the list, so that when the page is loaded, the user will see "Please Select" instead of "amp" in the drop down list.
Can this be done? If so how?
Thanks.

You need to add 'please select' to your data source before binding, as once you bind, you cannot add other items.

Hi,
Yes its possible.
Have a look at this sample.
DropDownList1.Items.Add(new ListItem("aaa", "1"));
DropDownList1.Items.Add(new ListItem("bbb", "2"));
DropDownList1.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("-- Please Select --"));
Items.Add() method adds the items to the Dropdown. Over here you may bind the items from the table, thats fine. Then use the Items.Insert() method specifing the index (here it's 0 which will be the first item in your drop down) and give the ListItem ("Please select" text) as the item to be added.
Thx

No, if a control is data bound, you cannot add items to it using code.

In the properties of the drop down list control, set the AppendDataBoundItems to true. Then, in the Items Collection, add the item "Please Select". Finally, bind the list as you are now.
The control will first insert any items that are in the "Items Collection", then it will (as the property states) append the data bound items to the control.

When i run an asp.net application the following error occurs.Once he removes temp files and resets IIS , the things work fine for another month or two ,again the same error occurs.How to resolve this issue permanently ?.

Um... what answer were you hoping for, apart from, get a bigger hard drive ?
I guess one problem could be if you're creating files in your code, that you need to delete them, or move them to somewhere that there is space for them ?

Permanent solution is to upgrade hard disk space. BTW, why did you down voted some one who tried to help ?

Yeah, that's why I did not respond. What answer IS there beyond buying a bigger HDD ? I mean even if he can optimise for this, it will only be something else, if he's that close to the edge. On a server ?

People like you are what's wrong with this site. Soon, people will not help folks if they seem to be completely ignorant to start with, because they will be scared of getting 1 votes because what they say is true and does not alter reality.
In other words, it will be harder to get an answer if you're obviously stupid to start with. That will be a sad day.

Just because you didn't like the answer? I'm with CG and his comments.
Does it matter what I write here? Someone just has to say something about it.

I have created a shared resource file. From with my code-behind files I am able to access the strongly-typed fields with my resource.
For example, Literal1.text = MySharedResource.Properties.Resources.Username. Where Username is a key in my Resources.resx file.
However, when I try to use explicit expressions from within my aspx page, I am not able to reference the field.
For example, in my web page I have <asp:literal id="Literal1" runat="server" text="">]]>" />. This does not work. I tried fully-qualifying the class, this does not work either. <asp:literal id="Literal1" runat="server" text="">]]>" />
Any thoughts on how I can use a shared resource file with explicit expressions?
Thanks.
Steve

Hi Steve,
Try this one.
<asp:Literal ID="liUserName" runat="server" Text='<%$Resources:Resource,UserName %>'></asp:Literal>
Thx,
