Get Backup, and Restore to new database server. You can use "SQL Server Management Studio Express" for this operation.
Step 1: Attach Database
Open "SQL Server Management Studio Express"
right-click to database folder
select Attach...
Step 2: Backup database.
Select attached database where in the database folder
right-click to database --> Tasks --> Back Up..
Now you have .bak file
Step 3: Restore database
Open "SQL Server Management Studio Express"
Select new database (its empty)
right-click to database --> Tasks --> Restore --> Database...
select "From Device" radio button and browse .bak file
Best Regards...

Hi,
In this similar process as mentioned in step 1, I have attached the database successfully (which I have detached previously), but it is attached as "READ ONLY".
I even checked properties of this database attached, it was not read only. Please suggest.
Thanks in advance,

right-click to database where on the "SQL Server Management Studio Express" in the database folder.
select Properties
So open the dialog box, select "Options" (its left side on the dialog box)
And change "Database Read-Only" value. It must be "false"

Dear Code Project members,
After reading Gyula Rabai and Ranjan D.'s posts on SMS Clients and Sending SMS on SQL database, I didn't find what I'm looking for...
I would like to configure my device (it is connected to a GSM modem) to send data over the air (GSM network) to a database (SQL).
This device collects information such as hourly temperature measurements and dump the readings into a log file stored locally. At the end of one cycle (i.e. after 24 hours) it must be able to send this log file to the database server via GPRS and the whole process is repeated again.
Please tell me how I can do it? Thank you ever so much!
Best regards,
Anthony M.

Hi Frds,
If we are using Indexing concept for searching criteria, which datatype will b faster, can you please tell me the order(Int,Date & String)???
Thank U.............

Int will be faster because it's easy to do comparison operations on it. Varchar and Date are less effective because it is not easy to perform mathematical operations on them and comparison operations take longer.

Int is the fastest, I think date would be next fastest as its stored as an int, then string, but its more important to get the index(es) right than worry about which datatypes are fastest - its only in the case of very large tables that you will notice any significant difference.

To set up Windows Authentication Mode security with Enterprise Manager in SQL Server:
Expand a server group.
Right-click a server, and then click Properties.
On the Security tab, under Authentication, click Windows only, if you need mixed mode authentication then click SQL Server and Windwos

I have a function that returns a table
This function accepts some parameters and performs a select from vwProducts, all it does is to insert into the return variable of the function the result of executing a query on vwProducts
vwProducts is sorted by ProductName
When i call this function, it returns products sorted by ManufacturerID, ProductName
Does anyone know why that is happening?
I specifyed a sort by ProductName inside the function as well
But wont sorting in the view and in the function have a performance penalty if i have many records?
When i was testing this on local machine, records where being sorted right, but when uploaded to another server, the sorting changed to ManufacturerID, ProductName
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Try putting an order by into your select from the view. This is the only way to ensure records are returned int he required order, particularly when you use multiple worker processes.

how to create sql 2000 database setup?
|
|
|
|

Hi,
I am not very clear what exactly you want to do.
However, if you wish to create a new database then click on database and select Create New Database.
Or if you wish to back up the database then right click the database and select "Backup Database" from the given options.
If you want to restore the database then follow then click "Restore" from the menu that appears.
Or if you want to do any of the above mentioned actions by SQL statements then please visit the following link http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=19710[^]
Hope this helps .

Guys,
A quick question for those more knowledgable about Sql Server than I.
I am using SQL 2000 as the DB in my applications. By and large it consists of a bunch of tables, stored procs to read/write data and a little SQL processing of data. Some apps do move large chunks of data around and as there are lots of arrays to rebuild it can take a while.
I have been wondering about the pros and cons of upgrading to 2005 or even 2008. Would I get an appreciable gain in speed in reading/writing?
So, looking for thoughts on the pros and cons of upgrading.
Many thanks,
John.
