Hi all,
I developed a sample web site which prints current system date time. After publishing the web site I created a virtual directory name and mapped the published folder.
When i try to access the website from browser as http://localhost/test/default.aspx[^] ,it returning me a error as Your are not authorised to view this page.
This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.
But when i do the same process in another system it works fine.
I modified the Directory security setting by enabling the Anonymous access.... still i am getting the same error.
I check my user account details it has rights to access the IIS.
Please suggest me to over come this problem
Thanks in advance

Check the following:
1. Is anonymous access enabled for the virtual directory (Check the directory security settings in IIS for this)
2. Check that the network service account has access to the physical directory (ASPNET account under Windows XP)
3. Check the security settings in your web.config, is there a line in <authorization> saying <deny users="?"/>
This should help overcome your HTTP 403 error.

I have no idea what you're asking, but I think it's an ASP.NET question.

Are you looking at the 'FormsAuthentication', which puts a returnURL querystring to the logon page?

i want to chage the value of cell with out refreshing the page via ajax.
any one knows plz help me asap.

Well, first of all, a datagrid means you should ask in the ASP.NET forum.
In what circumstances do you want to change the value ? What do you expect to trigger the AJAX call ? The server cannot send data via AJAX, that is, the trigger cannot be on the server, the client has to ask for it.

Hi all,
I have an asp.net application which generates a set of reports using reportviewer and rdlc files..
The problem is that on a few of the laptops the page covers up only half of the entire screen..
Secondly, the reportviewer controls are getting overlapped..
Has anyone come across such probs and can help me out..
How could i debug or search the reasons for such a problem??
Thanks in advance

There is nothing to debug, the resolution on your notebook is smaller than the resolution you wrote the page at. You need to redesign it to work on a smaller page, or accept that it doesn't work well on that small a resolution.

Thanks christian for replying..
Actually this problem occurs only on some laptops..
And its the bigger laptop screen that causes the problem..
Is there anything you might know that can be set/reset that makes it to take the actual resolution of the screen or something..
or probably a field or function that cares of the resolution setting for a webpage??

You can use css to float the image and position it.

There's actually nothing you can do in a web page that will affect the resolution of the screen on a client machine.
So stop worrying.

Hi All.
I am messing about with a game called EVE-Online where i would like to gather som data from an XML feed.
I am working in classic ASP, (yeah yeah ASP.net can do all this for me but i neither have the skills nor the time to convert the rest of my prog to asp.net.. )
The XML i need to gather data from is here http://www.elefantnet.dk/xml/eve.xml[^]
Also some other XML's will come in handy over time but right now this is it.
Anyway i can't get my head around this stuff... Usually i like to build my apps so they are more or less "generic"...
What i would really like is to write a parser that is not hardcoded to "decipher" the XML, but more like would find out what the XML offers.
I am trying something like this:
Retrieve the XML and load it as XMLDomDoc
Function showFeed(url,userxID,fullApixKey)
Dim webServiceUrl, httpReq, node, myXmlDoc
userid = "12345"
charID = "123456987"
fullapikey="thisisasecret"
webServiceUrl = url & "?userID=" & userid & "&ApiKey=" & fullapikey & "&characterID=" & charID
response.write(webserviceurl & "<br>")
Set httpReq = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP")
httpReq.Open "POST", webServiceUrl, false
httpReq.Send
Set myXmlDoc =Server.CreateObject("MSXML.DOMDocument")
if myXmlDoc.load(httpReq.responseBody) then
<big>displaynode myxmldoc.ChildNodes, 0 '**** This function should handle iteration through all the nodes ...</big>
else
response.write("horse! Content not very nice!")
end if
Set httpReq = Nothing
End Function
After this i get stuck, right now the most important issue for me is to go through the Rowset in the bottom of the doc, and update my local database with this content ...
I know this might be a biggie, and that maybe the answer from all would be ASP.net but ... Plz let me know if you have any way of helping me out here.

I've been trying to do the same thing (also in "classic ASP"). Ever figure it out? I'm going to keep working on it and will let you know if I come up with a solution.

I am displaying a GridView on some specific criteria which is entered by some textboxes say studentid, studentname as input from textbox and show records in GridView.
For this I m using a stored procedure which returns a datatable based on inputs came from textboxes.
I want an Edit button in the Gridview on click of which a with some label and textbox controls get displayed with prefilled entries.
For this I want the datarow from the datatable got from the stored procedure, from where I will get the complete info. Also I want to edit the data.
How can I get the row details of specified Edit button row and which way is better put a command button control in ItemTemplate of GridView or use a Buttonfield cotnrol inside the GridView?
I am working in ASP.NET2.0 and C#.
I m not getting the correct way, can anybody suggest me?
Thanks in advance,

You can edit a particular datagrid row using EditCommand event of the datagrid.
i attach code below:
private void Edit_DataGrid(object source,System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridCommandEventArgs e)
{
// We use CommandEventArgs e to get the row which is being clicked
// This also changes the DataGrid labels into Textboxes so user can edit them
myDataGrid.EditItemIndex = e.Item.ItemIndex;
// Always bind the data so the datagrid can be displayed.
}
thankyou

To use RowDataBound to find Id in each row:
<asp:gridview allowpaging="true" pagesize="5" autogeneratecolumns="false" id="GridView1" runat="server" datasourceid="SqlDataSource1" onrowdatabound="GridView1_RowDataBound">
<columns><asp:boundfield datafield="studentid" headertext="Student ID">
<asp:boundfield datafield="Name" headertext="Name">
In code behind:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//Accepting the Id of a clicked row.
string id = Convert.ToString(Request.QueryString["id"]);
}
protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
string id = e.Row.Cells[0].Text.ToString();
e.Row.Attributes["onclick"] = "window.navigate('samewebpage.aspx?id=" + id + ")";
}
}
you can access id from page load, reading the entire data of corresponding id using datatable or datareader and display the contents in a textbox or label.
Thankyou,
Rasma

I'm trying to show japanese character on the page and to sent mail.
To show on the screen, I've to save as the following format in SQL Server.
"
ƒtƒBƒŠƒbƒvØŒ"ƒIƒ"ƒ‰ƒCƒ"ŒûÀ\‚µ "
and use encoding "shift-jis".
It is showing correctly at browser.
But if I send mail that message, it can't be shown on some mail.
eg. gmail and hotmail can show but yahoo can't show correctly.
If I store as the following format in SQL Server, it can show correctly on most of the web mail.
"
& #12458 ; & #12531 ; & #12521 ; & #12452 ; & # 12531 ; & #21475 ; & #24231 ;
"
Can anybody explain about these formats?
Can anybody advice me for the best practise dealing with unicode character?
I would like to use same format to show and to send for unicode character.
I'm using classic ASP for server side script.
Thanks in advance,
Mann Khine

Have you tried using nvarchar columns in your database?

Yes Bob,
I used nvarchar columns.

Just a thought, suspected you already had. Could it be the format of the mail message? I know there are problems with extended charater sets when the email client only displays plain text.
