I've placed the following code into a thread in order to receive data
from a socket.

So.. the thread is suspended until the socket is signaled, and when data
are received by the socket, select call is unblocked and I can manage data.
My problem is the following:
how can I let the select call to be unblocked in order to let the thread
to be closed when my application need to stop receiving ? I'de like to let
the select call to be unblocked bu another event that is not related to
the socket status (data reception).

You've answered your own question. You have to switch to non-blocking sockets and implement your own loop to get all the expected data. A socket can't be both blocking (for normal operation) and nonblocking (for program termination) - you must choose one.

Use ShellExecute() with "open". Any file will open with its associated program automatically.

I got an example which can play back a wavefile with streaming buffer.now,I modify some lines for Lan chat. However I try my best ,It doesn't work. So wanna your help.
Well,First I simulate this situation that 2 men chat. Set same WaveFormatEx two point,and One Point Read a wavefile and Send data to
the other PC.
The other PC Receive quiet well,I use the data to playback(stream buffer mode) ,but It does't work. Nothing can be Heard.
what's wrong in my app?

I am calling two new dialogs on two different button clicks in my first dialog.
For the first time it is executing correctly.
Once i close one dialog and open another it is givin  g system error and aborting the application.
Please tell me where it is going wrong.

You could be using some uninitialized variable in your code for the second time. Did you try and debug your code?

if( objDate.GetStatus() == COleDateTime::invalid ) fails for some reason so the function always returns 31. I recall seeing this code somewhere in MSDN (??? probably). Used it some time back.
[modified]A quick look at MSDN gives me this:If you call GetStatus on a COleDateTime object constructed with the default, it will return valid
Eg:The status of this is 2000, 2, 31 = valid ???

But I am calling SetDate() after the construction of COleDateTime object. Suppose if you set a date as objDate.SetDate( 2008, 2, 30 ); The date will be invalid and if( objDate.GetStatus() == COleDateTime::invalid ) will return true.

I just tried this bit of code and it always returns me 31. even the parameters to the function when passed as 2000,2 returns 31. ??? Any reasons. I modified my last post to include this.
BTW does this code execute as expected at your end.

yes. it returns 29.
Is it because of some OS environment problem ?I am running on windows XP with SP2.

Same here [WinXP SP2]. but it always returns 31. Will try and find the reason behind this behaviour and get back if possible.
