what my problem is suppose I have 2 hard disk connected in my PC
They both having 4 partitions each.
by using the function "GetLogicalDrives" I can get the drive letters of all the partitions. Say suppose C:,D:,E:,F:,G:,H:,I:,J:.
Now the problem is how I am going to identify which drive letters belongs to which Hard drive?
If I just want to have the drive letters of the "PhysicalDrive0" how I am going to differentiate. Is there any function through which I can get the Disk number from drive letters???

if last boot was not terminated properly,
some menu will be displayed, on next boot.
(equal to press F8 on start up)

i want to make a restore solution,

i have set property of IDD_DIALOG1 as child
but still it does not getparent and show message "NO Parent"
i writ this code against buttonclicked event of main dialog

tab->Create(IDD_DIALOG1);
if(tab->GetParent==NULL)

So what's your question?

why this is not getting parent ?
while it is a child

Are we talking about an MFC class here, or is this a 3rd party solution?

I'm a little curious that a member variable would have the name of GetParent.

for member variable to have the parent information, you should set it for dynamic created control, other wise it assume as NULL!

Also since you posted code that won't even compile yet you claim you are executing said code, there is no reason to believe we have been given the requisite information needed to solve the problem.

1. Please post the actual code (not a crappy-simulating one).
2. Whenever you create a child dialog window, you should pass a pointer to the parent as second parameter (from MSDN [^]):

virtual BOOL Create(
UINT nIDTemplate,
CWnd* pParentWnd = NULL
);

if you rely on the default parameter then dialog's GetParent will return NULL.

Where are you setting the parent window at? If you don't set it, why would you expect anything other than NULL to be returned?

I implemented Ping(by ICMP) function and PortScan(by connect function).
it is to check that computer is on the network.
but these functions are spending too much time.
Ping function is delayed by recvfrom function and
PostScan function is delayed by connect function.
I wanna impove the speed.

Pinging a computer is not a reliable way of determining if it is available/online.

Think again. Adding additional threads to an application may improve its design but it will surely slow it down. Too much context switching.

What? Are you suggesting you can use broadcasting to implement port scanning of remote machines if only you knew how to receive responses? You better do some more studying on Sockets because you are totally lost. Since the most frequent use of Port Scanning is for malicious purposes, why do you need to do this? We don't support hackers here at Code Project.
