I want to write a windows service (myService) by using C++/CLI (Visual Studio 2005). This myService can use MFC function for OLE Automation.
Just for a first try, I did the following project configuration and coding:
• Creating a Windows Service under C++/CRL
• Adding ServiceInstaller with start type automatic and sereviceprocessInstaller with Account Local System
• Setting MFC in a Shared DLL
• Setting Common Language Runtime Support (/clr)
• Setting Multithreaded-Debug-DLL (/MDd)
• Adding #include <afxdisp.h> in stdafx.h
Compile is always successful. But when I use myServie.exe –Install to install my windows service in Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt, I always get the following exceptions
When debugging:
Unhandled exception at 0x78374588 (mfc80ud.dll) in myService.exe: 0xC0000005: Access Violation reading location 0x00000000.
In Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt:
Unhandled exception: System.AccessViolationException
Attempted to read or write protected memory.
This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
at _wWinMainCRTStartup()
Does anyone know the reason? Where am I wrong?
Many thanks for any help!

Hi-
I want to create a callout/workflow so that when account "do not allow fax" is changed -
apply same change to sub-accounts and contacts attached to that account.
I am not sure how to do this using callout and how to access all subaccounts and contacts from an account using callout.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Good to know. Although I doubt anyone will answer since the post reads like it was typed by a epileptic ferret.

Hi
Here i have one ASPxComboBox control (i.e. Dev Express Control).
I am populating this combo box by using javascript. this javascript i am calling in the page onload.
like :
<script type="text/javascript" src="DevComboItems.js" language="javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function startfunction()
{
FillItemTypeCombo(document.form1.cmbItems,'Reason for visit');
//FillDevComboItems('Grade');
}
window.onload=startfunction;
</script>
But this is giving error like: 'Dev express' is undefined. Any one can help me please.
This is my java function.
function FillItemTypeCombo(cboItem, sDefaultItem)
{
var sDefaultItem
//cboItem.options.length=0
for(i=0;i<sItemTypeString.split("|").length;i++)
{
if(sDefaultItem == sItemTypeString.split("|"))
{
for(j=0;j<sItemTypeArray.split("|").length;j++)
{
//cboItem.options[j]=new Option(sItemTypeArray.split("|")[j]);
//cboItem.options[0] = new Option(0,new DevExpress.Web.ASPxEditors.ListEditItem ('sItem',0));
cboItem.options[j] = new Option([j],new DevExpress.Web.ASPxEditors.ListEditItem(sItemTypeArray.split("|")[j],[j]));
}
}
}
}
This is my page.

Next time put your code in the "code block" when posting. It helps to make it easier to read. Since you lacked any indentation whatsoever, I will just move along

I just discovered that the managed cryptographic algorithms in .net are not FIPS compliant (more here:[^]) but the CSP's are.
I'm curious if anyone knows why not?

It's pretty straightforward: Microsoft haven't submitted the managed parts of System.Security.Cryptography to testing against FIPS 140-1. They have submitted the Cryptographic Service Providers (the unmanaged CryptoAPI). See the list of approved modules[^].
I don't know why they haven't. I don't really see any reason, other than expense, unless it's simply that the rules don't allow JIT-compiled code. (I don't know whether they do or not, I haven't read them.)
FIPS restricts the algorithms that can be used to this list[^].

For every software developer that has an existing .net application that uses the managed crypto stuff and has just been informed by their US federal govt. customers that they in turn just discovered that they have less than 2 weeks to have fips approved crypto in there even though the developer used the exact same approved algorithm that outputs the same result but used the managed version which Microsoft happened to not submit it in a giant f*** you to all their managed developers without explanation...well, I guess you have to laugh really the alternatives are to wail and moan about it.
Oh well I guess this affects so few people at this point that no one cares except those developers. Maybe I'll start a micro niche support group.

I can't seem to find a way to format a float, to always have at least two places, but will include up to n places when required, i.e. it will render three places if required, but no trailing zero when only two places are required.
Then, why is my number always rounded to two places in the following example?
float f = 22223.430321F;
MessageBox.Show(string.Format("{0 .0000}", f));
|
|
|
|
|

No, thanks. I've since learned that the default for float is rounding to two places, regardless of formatting, and I missed the conversion from SQL float to CLR double. I can work with a double as expected.

Hi, guys
Do you know any managed pattern for syncropnization of options betwean 2 applications?
I have a Configuration tool and tray application. Both run under the same limited user account, and when user modified settings in Configurator i need tray application to be updated without restarting it.
Target framework is 2.0
I searched in internet and found only Remoting, but it depends on a port number, so there might be a situation when other app already uses this port
Are there any gracefull decisiongs?
I will be glad if you give me some links, code portions...
Thank's in advance

If the processes are on the same machine, a port doesn't matter.
For a TcpChannel the port can be 0, and an unused port will be used.
An IpcChannel will perform better and requires no port number.

Hi,
I need to pull some table from SQL server; some are for read-only purposes while others will be both for reading and writing. I need to put these tables on laptops which do not have SQL server installed. I was thinking of storing them in XML files. My questions are:
1. What is the best way to store the tables on laptops for application to use? These tables will need to be synchronized with the main server once connectivity is available.
2. I know for pocket pcs there is pull and push mechanism available. What kind of mechanism should I use in my case?
3. What precautions should I take or things I should be aware of for such a project?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
1. I believe you have several options. Some of those are:
- use SQL Server compact edition on laptop. This way you have full database engine on laptop and you can use it as the normal database. In this case you can use replication between master and replicant database and no custom code is needed in order to transfer data between databases.
- save the tables as datasets directly using datasets WriteXml method. This is an easy way to serialize the data. Remember to store if rows are modified on laptop (don't accept changes until you get the data back to the server).
2. This depends on your solution. If you're meaning replication done using SQL Server, pull may be easier to implement but on the other hand it's not necessarily as secure as push.
3. - First of all security. How can get the data to laptop and which laptop. How and where the data is stored in laptop (root of C-drive may not be the best option ). Is the data encrypted and so on.
- modifications. If the data can be modified only in one place, you must implement logic how to prevent modifications in other places. For example if data is on the laptop, can it be updated at the server...
- Simultaneous modifications. If the data can be updated anywhere, you will end up to conflicts. This happens when data is modified in two places separately. When the data is combined from laptop to the server and the server is not in original state (as the data was when it was taken to laptop), what is the right conclusion (there's no obvious answer to this). Perhaps, the lates is correct or combination of both updates or so on... This is typically the most challenging issue in this kind of project...
Hope this helps you,
Mika
