Hi,
Does anyone know of a good, basic Intermediate style NDIS driver example (with source) for Windows CE 3.0? We are porting one we did for Windows NT, but would like a cleaner reference version to make sure that we are not missing anything in the port.
Or has anyone done an IM driver for WinCE 3.0 and would be willing to share anything that caused them indigestion in the porting effort (other than the obvious functionality that NT has that WinCE does not).
Thanks,

Hi,
Has anyone used the USB Storage driver, USBSTOR.SYS, that comes with Win2K in concert with an application to talk to a CD-R drive? I'm not referring to the drive appearing in My Computer, or the Explorer but, rather to being able to issue commands to the drive via Transparent SCSI commands. E.g. Request Sense, getting media type/size, opening/closing the drawer, etc.
Has anyone found any detailed documentation from Microsoft on this driver and how to use it to directly talk to USB storage devices? I know that the version on Win2K has some problems and limitations..
Thanks for any assistance..

W2K has the ability to remember info about a folder's customisation, like
attribute column width (e.g. Name, Size, Type, etc.) and also additional
extended attributes that can be selected like Author, Comments, etc.
Does anyone know where this information is kept? Is it in the registry or
somewhere else? Alternatively can someone point me to any resource on the
net where I can find this information?
In a folder, when you select View -> Customise This Folder... you get a list of additional extended file attributes you can select from, for display purposes. Does anyone know where this list is comming from. Is it a static list defined in a DLL or is it read from the registry. Can the list of attributes be customised to display more attributes (e.g. JPG files have more extended attributes like Source, Rating, etc.). I am looking for a method of displaying these extended attributes. Does anyone know how this is or can be done?
I understand how to customise a folder through desktop.ini and .htt files.
What I am looking for is a simple method of exposing these extended
attributes by simply displaying them as extra columns in a folder.
Alternatively if anyone can tell me how they can be exposed through a
programmatic method (e.g. to get all the attributes just use the command
FileList.Folder.GetDetailsOf(FileList.SelectedItems.Item(0),i) where i = 0
to 40). But how do you display the additional attributes of .JPG files?
Any help would be appreciated. I have searched all known sources and have posted messages on several newsgroups but had ziltch info and help so far.
Thanks

It should exists the following file: "folder.htt" on every folder you customized. (That's on Windows 2000, on my computer I succeeded to find it only in Program Files).
Check out some Dino Esposito articles, he's the web/script guy for Explorer (and not only). MSDN (online or not), MSJ ... see what you can find.

Every time I create a new file by choosing New from the context menu that appears
when right-clicking on an empty spot on the desktop, the word "new" is added to
the beginning of the file name. Is there any way to change this behavior?
Ex. When you select New>Text Document you create a text file named "New Text
Document.txt". I don't want the word "New" to appear in the file name, I just
want the file name to be "Text Document.txt".
Thanks for any suggestions.

You have to text edit your .RC file and search for "New Text Document.txt" and then just remove new.

I need to write an app to programmatically unbind a certain protocol from a network card. E.g. Check if Netbeui is bound to a certain ethernet network card and if so then I need to unbind it (without user intervention). The idea is that after running the app only TCP/IP would be bound to the ethernet card no matter what additional protocols are installed on the computer.
I've got it working in Win2k (with the use of the INetCfg API calls) but I can't find any API calls or code examples on how to this in Win98/Win Me and NT4.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I am studying about Windows NT internals and I came across the utility
C2Config.exe which is supposed to be in the NT Resource Kit... How do I install the NT Resource Kit?... where can it be found? ... do I have to reinstall my OS in order to include it? ... thanks
Also, I have partitioned my h/d so that the primary partition has the NT and the second only has data. How do I go about such that I can install another OS (Linux) ... thanks again

You need to have access to the NT resource kit (RK) itself which is a set of utilities and programs. You install these utilities as per the instructions of the RK.
The RK can be found on MSDN ot TECHNET CDs or you can buy the RK as a separate piece of software.

hi,
Win2k protects the system files by detecting changes and replacing changed files from a cache. I see that there are ways to disable this feature. But is there a way to just disable this feature for one single file insted of all system files ?
thanks
karthik
ps: reason being inetinfo dlls stack size is set to 40000 , but some of my dlls need a stack size of 100000 ,so I want to change the stack size of this dll alone. win2k will not allow me to use this modified dll.

Are your referring to a POS (Point-of-Sale) system?
If so, I have a lot of experience with these systems.
In short, is highly dependant on the model. Usually it would communicate using ASCII text files. Newer ones use XML transmitions.
I would suggest contacting the vendor for more information on your particular model.

I do not mean selecting characters then use Format > Font... command. I mean the font we see once we open a document that is "Microsoft San Serif, 10 point" now . How can we change that to another font ?

I'm using named pipes as an interprocess communication mechanism in a
distributed application.
This works successfully on Windows NT 4.0; I'm using this mechanism since
several years (since the dawn of NT 3.1 back in late 1992).
Now, with Windows 2000, some things seem to have changed.
When running several application components on a single machine or
across a network that all do use named pipes,
suddenly overlapped I/O on named pipes doesn't work any longer,
that is, ReadFile() (using overlapped I/O!) does not return
immediately but blocks for about a minute.
This seems to be dependent on the number of active named pipe instances;
if I reduce the number of named pipes used, the 'overlapped timeout' does
not occur.
The documentation (MSDN library, October 2000 edition) does not state
any such changes in named pipe functionality.
This is a severe problem, since my distributed application (a process
control system) depends on named pipe usage and eventually we have to
use Windows 2000 instead of NT 4.0. (Which besides the named pipe problem
is a huge advancement)
Has anyone yet made similar experiences or does anyone know a way
to circumvent this problem? Changing from named pipes to something else would
be no feasible solution, due to the amount of source code adaptation necessary.

Hello,
I was wondering if I can invoke/run my .exe after user log into system or after system is rebooted.

There are two ways to do it.
1. You can put your exe in windows/startup folder.
2. You can create an entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\Windows\currentversion\run

I'm completely new to the world of CE. I've been developing COM/ATL/MFC (and Visual Basic when forced) for several years now and though I did playh around with the Palm SDK when I bought my Palm V a while ago, I've really no experience in this arena. Today I was assigned with investigating and creating a Requirements spec and Project Plan for a new project involving the Compaq iPaq PDA. I can't really get into details but suffice it to say it's an application running on Windows CE that will utilize the serial port to send/receive data. The problem is my boss wants me to focus on Windows CE, not Pocket PC. I never knew there was a difference? What IS the difference? Is it simply that the Aero 1550 model is just missing a color LCD and the glitzy software package with the Pocket IE, Pocket Word, Media Player, etc with a slower processor? Are there differences in the SDK or am I limited with Microsoft technology more so with the Aero than with a full featured Pocket PC version like the H3600?
