Hi ,
Iam using PostGre8.1 , while executing query using ExceuteSQL command in VC++ if the DBServer is Switched off, the ExecuteSQL command is not responding due to which my application gets hanged.
Is there any way to avoid this case?
Thanks

I'm not very familiar with PostGre, but I would imagine that this happens because the server side does not inform the client about shutdown. This leaves the client in a state where it thinks that the operation is still running.
You should try to find info about following things:
- is there a way to configure a heart-beat checking in PostGre. This means that the existence of the server is checked once in a while
- are there server side configuration possibilities that would allow the server to inform the clients that the server is shutting down before the connection is broken
- can you define a maximum amount of time in connection string that a single operation can last.
Hope this helps,
Mika

hi all,
i want to Install the application on My client machines . My application is based on Server-client.So i think that i install Sql server on Server-side Machine and Application on Client -side Machine. I want to ask whether above assumption is right or not ?
If right ,then whether there are any requirement of run-time environment on client Machine so it can connect to Sql Server database which reside on server
and if i wrong, then please suggest the steps

I think there are no special requirement at back end side .But require changes at front end side . Like the font of the control which contains Hindi character. Use "Krunti Dev 010" like font. Also you can Use System.Text.encoding
Hope this helps

"krunti Dev 010" is not available .
where you look for this font. In databse ?. At front-End side ,set the font of controls like textbox to Hindi Font. "Krunti Dev 010" is just as example.
and how to use "System.Text.encoding" ??
Use Imports System.Text namespace and find Encoding Examples on Google[^]
Hope this helps

Dear All,
Webpage is unable to retrive the data from SQL Server database. I am getting the below error;
Error Type:
ADODB.Connection (0x800A0E7A)
Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.
I have already tried the following suggestions available in net
1. installing MDAC
2. installing MDAC sp1
3. regsvr32 Sqloledb.dll
4. windows registry repair
5. repair windows os
Everything is fine except regsvr32 SQLOLEDB.dll is showing the error.
DLLRegisterServer failed. Return code was:0x80004005
Pls suggest...

If I get this error, the first thing I do is make sure that my connection string is correct. I will not assume that something is wrong with MDAC installation.

The connection string is perfect. It is working fine in other systems. The sqloledb.dll is corrupted in my system and not able replace it b'coz dllregistryserver is failing...

Hi.
As long as the application users have their own login on the DB server, the only thing you can do is trusting then, which seems like a terrible bad idea.
A quick, dirty and somewhat funny solution is password encryption: What they type is not what they use
Try ROT13, gonna fool them all, and very easy to implement.

My question is I need to make a stored procedure for testing use. The pseudo-code is:
BEGIN
Open input file for reading
Create new output file REJECTE.txt in the delete folder
While not EOF in input file {
For every line of the input file {
Run update dbo.ITEMS table set
ITEMS_SLS_FLG = B where ITEM_ID = A (A & B are from input file)
IF update fails because ITEM_ID is not found on dbo.ITEMS table
Write to output file "ITEM ID ITEM_ID is not found in the table"
Else IF any other error return failure
Close input file
Close output file
}
}
Close input file
Close output file
Return success
END
My question is how to open, read and write to a txt file in a SQL stored procedure? The input file has the below format:
A B
125345 1
235649 1
765430 0
...... .
if you have the experience or knowledge handling this kind of problem, please do me a favor, many thanks....

Hi,
Don't recall any direct file operation procedures, but could you use another approach:
- write informatical messages to a table using normal SQL
- create a stored procedure which writes to a file yourself using managed code (C#) and install that procedure to SQL Server
- use trace (not actually designed for this but...). For more info see sp_trace_create
Hope this helps you,
Mika

Look into SSIS packages. It might look hard to do at first, but making a package is not that hard.
