try using two double qoutes, that's generally used in VBScript... so:
mystring = "<table width=""10""></table>"
that will probably give the desired result, however i would consider getting your results differently

You need to use double quotes around the attribute value, and replace any double quotes within the value with " :
stronmouseover = Chr(34) & "idDesc.innerHTML="" & _
"<table BORDER='0' CELLSPACING='0' CELLPADDING='0'>" & _
"<tr>" & _
"<td><img SRC='../../icons/" & Replace(strGIF, Chr(34), """) & "'></td>" & _
"<td WIDTH='5'></td>" & _
"<td>" & Replace(strDesc, Chr(34), """) & "</td>" & _
"</tr>" & _
"</table>"" & Chr(34)
strCell = "<td HEIGHT='23'" & _
" WIDTH='70'" & _
" ALIGN='RIGHT'" & _
" VALIGN='BOTTOM'" & _
" BGCOLOR=" & Chr(34) & Replace(strColor, Chr(34), """) & Chr(34) & _
" onmouseover=" & stronmouseover & _
" onmouseout=" & stronmouseout & _
" onclick=" & strClickEvent & ">Click me" & _
"</td>"

I created a User Control that transforms XML using XSL. (The XSL stylesheet is in a file.) Now this control is to be used for different projects. What is the best thing to do?
(1) Just keep the User Control and make the developers copy the User Control and XSL files?
(2) Create a Web Custom Control and just have the developers reference the control library? If this is the best solution, what do I do with the XSL file?
|
|
|
|
|
why aren't you just using the asp:xml control?
|
|
|
|
|
I wanted to make a generic control that calls a particular function to get a dataset from another object, and transforms the XML in that dataset by using a particular XSL file.
I was wondering what the best solution was to let this control be used in multiple projects, by multiple developers. The developers should be able to just drop this control in their pages and change one or two properties. I didn't want them constantly copying a user control - what if it should change? So I figured it would probably be better to create a Custom Control (in a Web Control Library), but I couldn't figure out how to access an XSL file that was part of that Library. I finally figured it out, though, so my problem is solved.

Ok, here is a random though that may or may not work, but it would be interesting to find out. One of the main concerns with ASP.NET, aside from the learning curve is the fact that the objects in ASP.NET can't talk to the objects of ASP. But here is where the lightbulb went off, (at least it flickered ) If, (because I am not sure) we could access the ASP object from within ASP.NET through COM Interop we would be allowed to create a stepping stone transformation from one technology to another in large web applications. While many web applications may be easily ported to ASP.NET, there are many that take quite a bit of time (for example this site) to convert. What does everybody think of this idea?

you can make your .NET classes available through COM/ActiveX, there are articles here covering that, and in that way you can create your .NET objects within an ASP Page (with some limitations).
Within your .NET solution you can reference the MS Active Server Pages COM Object in your .NET solution, wich gives you access to the ASP Session and Response object (So it can be passed from an ASP Page)
I Have combined those two in a extensive ASP Project to port it to .NET exactly as you stated and works OK but ofcourse 100% .NET = better.

Well, IMHO I think that you rewrite the pieces of your web application as time permits. The performance cost of COM Interop would probably not be worth the effort.

Does anyone know of a free cgi or php script (not asp, as my server doesn't support it) that I can install on my server that'll let me open and edit a text file on the server (I'm not worried about passwording or security, as I'll hide it behind a .htaccess auth thingamie)
Basically I either need a script that can load and let me edit a particular file (through a form on the page), or ideally something that'll let me traverse the tree of the site and pick any file to edit.
Does anyone know of anything that can do this?
It's so that I can easily update my site from wherever I am. ftp access is blocked where I work, so I can't update from there. I did write a simple editor myself - simply read in a text file, displayed its contents in a textarea of a form, which then saved the contents of the textarea back to the file when the form was submitted, but I found that it tended to fail on large files, which made it somewhat useless

Anybody know of a good ASP Graphing component? My needs are simple (just a line graph really) but it needs to re-draw quite fast (damned live graph I tell yah.)
Or alternatively has anyone done any good graphing with SVG or VML? If so did it work out well?

I've used VML a lot and it works just fine (in IE, obv.)
But I have some lightning fast horizontal bar graphics made just like this:
Changing the 40% for anything will change the graphic as well.
<html>
<body>
<table border=1 width=200>
<tr>
<td width=50%>% of sales:</td>
<td width=50%><div style="position: relative; float: left; background-color: #FF0000; width: 40%"></DIV></td>
</body>
</html>

Thanks. In the meantime I have used SVG and it works like a bomb when coupled with JavaScript and a bit of XML.
The thing is I needed to do line graphs, not bar graphs and the line graph needed to "grow" as you watched. All in a HTML page, fun huh?

I'm writing an ASP.NET web site and I want to turn autocomplete off a number of fields (it's only going to get in the way).
I know that HTML has autocomplete="off" which would do the job nicely, but the fields I'm looking at are ASP.NET TextBoxes.
I either need:
1) A way of including a non-standard tag in the <asp:TextBox> tag (or any other <asp:xxx> tag) to be inherited by the created <input> tag
or
2) A way of using style-sheets to achieve the autocomplete effect (as I have with other effects not included in <asp:xxx> tags).
For now, I've managed to get there with
document.MyForm.MyTextBox.setAttribute("autocomplete", "off");
in the Body/OnLoad event. But I'd much rather not wait for the page to load.

this works for me:
<br />
<form runat="server"><br />
<asp:Textbox runat="server" id="foo" autocomplete="false" /><br />
</form><br />

Note to self: Just because the VS.NET IDE underlines something as an error with a huge red line, doesn't mean that it's actually wrong!
Thanks Andy.

i dont know what is wrong...
i got the following structure:
frameset1 (2 frames):
1.1. chatRoomFrame:
frameset2 (2 frames):
2.1. insertFrame
2.2. chatFrame
1.2 bottomFrame
so. the "insertFrame" refreshes every 3 seconds, and
"onload" it calls the following javascript function:
function update()
{
temp = top.chatFrame.chat.chatfield.value;
top.chatFrame.chat.chatfield.value = temp
<%
do while (NOT rs.EOF)
output = "+""\n"&rs.fields.item("sender")&"(to:
"&rs.fields.item("empfaenger")&"): "&rs.fields.item("inhalt")&""""
response.write(output)
rs.movenext
loop
rs.close
%>;
}
but i always get the error message,that the object:
top.chatFrame.chat.chatfield.value
does not exist. it even aboard with: top.chatFrame.chat
i already tried parent or document instead of top, but same error occurs.
does anyone has any idea???
thnx for help!

Make sure that chatFrame is loaded first. You could do this in one of several ways, here's two...
Have chatFrame run the first iteration of the insertFrame reload, and let insertFrame take it from there. You'll still need to make sure insertFrame is loaded though.
Also, you could get a global variable to flag insertFrame it's okay, or you could check out the DOM properties to see if the document exists (i.e.; use typeof() to check, or use the window object to check the document is loaded, etc.).
If none of this helps, then I'll most likely have to see some code to find out what's going on.

try not to reference a frame by id or name but through the frames collection of a document:
parent.frames["chatFrame"]
or
window.frames["chatFrame"]
hope it works, but i don't see how your frameset is built up and by names or ID's.
