Without access to the server you can't.

What happens if the site never goes down? What happens if the site is running fine but your connection disappears? What happens if they have a redundant system where one server comes up immediately when a server goes down?
Basically, other than constantly pinging the server, there is no other way to know how long it's been up. Pinging is a brute-force method that will only really tell you how long you've been pinging it.

thank you again,i think pinging wouldn't be a good way too

Hi
I am creating something like a website that hosts images, those images will be used particularly in forums, I want to find a way to make the images clickable so when a user posts a topic in some forum and uses a hosted image, for example . I want that image to be displayed in the topic like any normal image but I want it to be clickable like a hyperlink that links to some website.
Anyway to do this?
I hope so as I need this very badly.

Well, Yusuf, I don't think it is that simple.
in a forum topic, the final tag for an image is so at the moment I am only limited to transfer JPEG data. I was wondering if there was a trick to change the MIME response type of the server AND to make the browser accept html response inside an tag.

why is that? Can't you change that to be HTML and send what ever you want including the <img>
Mohammad A Gdeisat wrote: I was wondering if there was a trick to change the MIME response type of the server AND to make the browser accept html response inside an tag.
of course you can cange the MIME type to what ever you want.
Response.ContentType
For list of MIME types see <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/media/media_mimeref.asp" target="_blank" title="New Window">here</a>
But I don't understand the need to spoof the MIME type instead of changing the forum header to regular HTML?

Thats exactly what I did, I changed the MIME type to text/html in the custom http handler but when I created a test page with tag I could only see a bad image. no html data was displayed on the page.

i want some code to detect version of Acrobat Reader which is installed at the client-side in any of known languages...
tnx!

Just loop through navigator.plugins 'till you find it, then parse out the version from the description property. This should work everywhere except IE... Code for IE can be found here[^].

thanks alot dear but how about mozilla firefox?!

As i mentioned, most browsers other than IE - including Firefox - provide a detailed list of available plugins in navigator.plugins . Just loop through it 'till you find one with the name you're looking for.

hello,
i'm developping a website under asp.net(c#), i have a clickable table row, so when the user click the row , i pass the values inside that row column to another page, ("i used javascript to make the click event for the row"),so i used :
window.location="anotherpage.aspx?accountNbr="+SomeValue;
but by this way it'sot secure, any user could change the value of an account number and could enter his settings.
in asp.net i used Session[] to bypass variables, is there a similr way to do that in javascript.Or could hide the address bar ?
Thank you in advance for your help and best regards

Hidden Variable can solve your problem.

hi, thank you for your reply,
how do i send the variables in a hidden way, i have to retreive it by asp.net not ny javascript
please could you give me a small example or a document address to read about it
thank you again

|

You should do the security checking on the server, not on the client. That is, when someone does click a row then you check if that user is allowed to set that account number.
Hidden variables are not secure.

hi jhonny
i just don't want the variables to be visible in the location or Address bar, is there any way to do that or to let the location Bar invisible ?
|
|
|
|
|
If you dont want them to be visible in the URL, you can send them using the POST method But as Johnny 2 said, you should do validation on the server side too.
Hope this helps,
