Solved the problem. I set the testsign mode on the driver can be loaded correctly. Vista/2008 64-bit can only load drivers which are signed by known certificates(such as Verisign...).

Over the past week my hard drive has started making a noise when it's accessed, i.e. it makes a small noise with the green light flickers indicating that it's reading/writing data to the disk.
I checked to see if it needed defragmented. It did, so I defragmented it. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped the noise. Googling indicates that this is a bad sign; the drive may be about to fail. That's a drag as it's only about a year old.
Not wanting to lose any data, should I play it safe and just buy a new drive? If so, what's a relatively painless way to copy all of the data from my current drive to a new one?
In the past when installing a new drive, I would keep the old drive in the computer and simply read from it as needed. But if this drive is about to go bad, I'd like to copy everything to a new one. And I'd rather not go through the trouble of reinstalling all of my software.
Thanks for any help.

I would use the corporate version of Ghost and make a sector by sector copy to the new drive.
There are several free programs out there that's doing the same thing. But I haven't tried them though.

Thanks, Jörgen. I'm currently trying DriveImage XML, but I will check out Ghost.
I just purchased an external 500 GB HD. It has more memory than my current internal HD. So here's a followup question:
Are external USB hard drives suitable for running the OS off of?

Not an OS from Microsoft. The <edit>cache pagefile<edit> gets problems with the "random" response times from any USB connection.
Any OS that can be run from a CD will be fine though.

Windows won't allow it due to the possibility of the device being removed while the OS is running. Windows is demand-paged and aggressive at trimming working sets, including that of the kernel; the default for Windows is that all code and data is pageable and you must mark those sections that are not pageable.
Understandably, it causes problems when the page of system code is demanded, the OS tries to read it in, and the disk containing the code is no longer there.

I use DriveImage too , may be external HD are not a good options for running OS . What I do is use my old drive for OS related work and a
external for data storage , note i regularly make image os my old drive
and keep it as a backup , but the image can only help if you have a similar hard-drive

You could just buy a small internal hard drive (20-40 GB or so) and use that as your OS disk and then use the external HD for all your data.

Take it elsewhere, this is not the place for programming related questions.

|
|

It is not for programming at all.
I would require the ua prof for knowing the screen size , media type , media format it supports and not for programming.
It is just for general use...
if u could arrange me the xml file I would be really thankfull
Thanks...

In the context of this site it is. See if you can find the answer on a non-programming message board. That proves the OP is programming related.

It was just the other week that you were asking regex questions here... But then again, some animals are more equal than others.

Like leppie said, programming related now really, also I have no idea. Before it was just a bit of useful info that I could easily provide.

If it only was that little bit of info, now he demands XML, and that's clearly a programming language

What's the format of the XML file?
Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoloy card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game UNO. In the movie "The Matrix", Chuck Norris is the Matrix. If you pay close attention in the green "falling code" scenes, you can make out the faint texture of his beard. Chuck Norris actually owns IBM. It was an extremely hostile takeover.
