What form of serialization are you using?
You need to serialize the data as efficiently as possible.
Have you looked into some form of lossless compression?

Finally we have decided a different medium. We have a web server where the request is recieved it fetches the data from the database and downloaded by the client using HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse classes. It has increased the performance alot.
Thnx for all ur comments specially the McDonald ones ...

Anyone know of a good Lint-like tool for Managed C++ code? Is it possible to get Lint or Splint to recognize and work with managed code? I've looked at some of the tools listed here[^], but they all just seem to give a bunch of metrics reports. I've used FxCop a little bit, and it gives me more of what I'm looking for (actually pointing me to potential errors in my code). However, I've read that it actually analysis the MSIL rather than the original source. Does this matter at all, considering the different features of some languages (such as you can't call Dispose() in C++, you have to call ~class_name, but you can call Dispose() in C#)?
Thanks,
Dybs

Yes, FxCop will analyze the already compiled binaries. You may want to check out a tool called StyleCop[^]. In my opinion, it's still in some very early stages of development but I think it will get you a lot of what you're looking for.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, all my development so far has been in Mangaged C++, not C#, and currently StyleCop only supports C#. Otherwise, it's probably just what I'm looking for. Do you know if they intend to add support for the other .NET languages? If so, this could become a really powerful tool.
Thanks,
Dybs

Ah...sorry...didn't realize you were looking for a C++ tool. I don't know if there are plans to extend StyleCop to support other languages. Now that it is a publicly available tool, the community might be able to convince them to add such support.

No problem...Whenever I do any C# development this will definitely come in handy, though. Thanks again!

Hi ,
I am new to asp.net ,I have created a login.aspx page with employeeID,firstname and lastname.How should
i set it as a login page ,and how can i set login status to it.I am not using windows authentication tool.
Thanks,
Patil

You should ask this in the ASP.NET forum rather than here. However, what you need to do is set your authentication to Forms in the web.config file and set the login page here.
<configuration>
<system.web>
<authentication mode= "Forms">
<forms name=".ASPXAUTH" loginUrl="Login.aspx" />
</authentication>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Have you got a cool piece of code you wrote, but don't know what to do with?
Have you got a cool idea, but need the motivation to work on it?
Would you like an MSDN Subscription, but don't have the money to pay for it?
If you can answer, "YES" to any of the above questions, then you should definitely submit an entry in the Community Coding Contest by midnight September 30, 2008!
As of today, there are 47 days left to submit your entries in the Community Coding Contest. There are more prizes than just two MSDN Premium Subscriptions with Visual Studio Team System 2008 Suite being given away; a few companies have donated additional prizes too! View the Prizes page for a full list of the prizes being given away. Also, if we get a ton of entries, we may be able to get more prizes donated!
Once the entry phase of the contest is finished, the website will be opened up for the community to vote on the winners. We aren't going to have a panel of judges that might give the prizes to people they know. YOU the community are going to be in charge to judging the contest, on any criteria you want, to decide who wins these awesome prizes!
I'm anxious to see what cool entries get submitted over the next two months!

Sheesh. I hadn't seen that. I'm gonna put the Hello World away then.

Well, technically you don't have to be a "legal" US resident, but you do need to reside in the US since the MSDN Subscriptions I have to give away are region locked to the US. I wish they weren't.
