What an odd request, I thought so last time you asked, obviously you got no answer. I will be surprised if you get one in the SQL forum for a CR issues. However heres what I have done when CR SSRS won't do as they are told.
Try getting the result in SQL server before passing it to CR. You may be able to position the data where you want it in a sroed proc and just stick the lot into a grid type control in CR.
I presume you have tried the CR forums and support - now theres sarcasm for you.

Umm... he's not really asking how to do this in CR, I think...

He does mention CR in the OP and "local RDLC report", I have no idea what an RDCL report is and as he first asked this in the VB forum I got the idea it was a CR issue.

Let me clarify my question for you:
This option is possible to do in Crystal report where you can add another column and choose a direction to print your data (if you want the data to display across then down or down then across).
However, I did see option that you can increase the column number in SSRS when you create RDLC, but i didn't see anywhere that you can determine the printing direction and i'm just trying to find out if they have this option in SSRS (i'm trying to create a client report definition RDLC using VS2008 with C#). I thought maybe I'm looking for this option in a wrong place, since in crystal report this option seem to be out of sight too.
Also, the reason I ask this question again this forum because i thought that the reason i didn't get any response last time was maybe because i asked question in a wrong type of forum & since this is topic associate more with SSRS, I ask again in here.

Few choices come in mind:
- preorganize your data in "two columned set" before feeding it to rdlc
- add a two-column table to the rldc and in detail row create an expression for both columns. Rows in the data that have an odd row number go to the left column and rows with even row number go to the right (not sure that this is a good idea)
Hope this helps,
Mika

Thanks....that's a good option to do so.

So, do you need Visual Studio 05 installed on the same box as SQl 2005? I just installed SQL 05 on a db box and I see that there is an installation of VS05, but I think that is only used for SQL projects. I'm not going to do any programming on that box, so do I need VS05 installed there or can I get rid of it.

You don't need it but I do find it useful when you need to do a local compile to debug a problem.

No, it does not have to be all on the same box.

Hi,
I need help with selecting part of column value.
Say that I have a database that return me a InventoryID
InventoryID
as123-CE123daf235
23d45543-CE23432
234dave-CEj324lio
I want to select everything before -CE, i couldn't use Substring() function because each value have a different character id. can anyone advice me how to do this???
Thanks in advance!!!
|
|
|
|
|
SELECT LEFT(InventoryID, LEN(InventoryID) - CHARINDEX('CE',InventoryID))
|
|
|
|
|
Thank you....the substring function work without -2 at the end.
Thanks again!!!
|
|
|
|
|
<br />
select substring(InventoryID,1,CHARINDEX('CE',InventoryID)-2) from tablename

I have another small question regarding this:
select substring(inventoryId,1,Charindex('-CE',InventoryID)) from Inventory
work if all the inventoryID contain -CE, however there're some inventoryID that doesn't contain -CE and for those that doesn't contain -CE i want to select the whole field.
My SQL statement is really big, if i use If..Else statement then it's like
if InventoryID like '-CE' begin
.....the whole nine yard of select statement...
else
.....another nine yard of select statement....
i was wonder if you can use if within select statement...what i picture are:
SELECT *, (inventoryid without -CE for those that contain -CE)
FROM Inventory
I hope you understand my question.
Thanks!

InventoryID contain values like this:
23d45543CE23432
23d45543-CE23432
73d45543CE23434
73d45543-CE23434
... and so on
Try T-SQL down below I think it will work for you.
select <br />
case when CHARINDEX('-CE',inventoryid ) =0 then<br />
inventoryid <br />
else<br />
substring(inventoryid ,1,CHARINDEX('-CE',inventoryid )-1) <br />
end as inventoryID<br />
from Inventory

what does this mean "Integrity constraint violation" while trying to write data into oracle tables ?
Thanks,
Nice things do nice works
|
|
|
|
|
Well, at a guess... I would say the table you are tring to write to has constraints on it and the data you are inserting/updating violates those constraints.
See if you can get a copy of the database schema for the affected table(s) to determine how you are violating the constraint.

Can you post the Oracle error code ? Something like ORA-00001 ...
By having the error code, it would be easier to determine what is causing the problem.
|
|
|
|
|
There are 5 type of integrity constraints NOT NULL, UNIQUE KEY, PRIMARY KEY, FOREIGN KEY and CHECK. I think you aplied anyone of them in your table schema and voilating that. If a user tries to insert data that doesn't meet these requirements, Oracle will not allow so.

I am using SQL Server 2005 for my web application. The Database I am using is located on a remote server and I am accessing the database from my local Machine.I have used stored procedures for all the database operations. When I was running my application(On my IIS) i.e., localhost, it was working fine, so I uploaded all the compiled pages to the web server. Now the pages which don't require database operations are working fine but whenever database connectivity is required an application runtime error is occuring.Someone told me to grant permissions to the users/guests for the stored procedures and I did the same. The problem is when permission link is clicked there are 4 database objects to be selected Administrator, Dataadmin, guest and whbuser.I want to know what permissions should be given to which one?I granted permissions to first 2 objects but its still not working. What could be the solution so that the database may be used by the site's users for their respective purpose? What is the complete procedure to make a remote database work with front end successfully?Thanks..

zafar sultan wrote: When I was running my application(On my IIS) i.e., localhost, it was working fine
Localhost could also refer to the built in webserver inside Visual Studio. This doesn't use IIS and it will run with YOUR permission set, not that of the webserver. Are you absolutely use it is your local IIS?
zafar sultan wrote: Someone told me to grant permissions to the users/guests for the stored procedures and I did the same
Blindly granting access to stuff really blows holes in your security. Please think about what you are doing with that regard and think about what is actually happening when you do these things. If you don't understand then please get a good book on .NET web application security.
zafar sultan wrote: permission link
Permission "link"? Are you configuring your database through a web site? (e.g. Your hosting provider). If that is the case then I cannot tell you what they have set up.
What does your connection string connect to the database as? That will point you in the right direction as to what permissions you need to be changing.
zafar sultan wrote: What is the complete procedure to make a remote database work with front end successfully?
That depends on your set up.
