All,
My environment is Windows XP 64 bit and am running 32 bit applications. When trying to attach memory validator to a running process, its not allowing me to do so. It shows a dialog box with "dll injection failed".
Any clue to resolve this would be of great help. Mem validator has helped us a great deal in the WinXP 32 bit world. But am not able to make it work in the 64 bit world.
Please let me know what am I missing?

The problem could be that Microsoft stopped supporting windows xp 64 in April/2005.Windows xp professional is currently supported {64 bit].

SQL Users and permissions can be created with T-SQL commands, therefore all you need do to is create you own functions in VB.NET to execute the necessary commands. You will also find the SQL Server will also have stored procedures that can be utilised to achieve your desired results.

I tried, I'm sure for the first time this morning, to install an ASP.NET 2 web site on my laptop under IIS. I've previously done all my work in the built-in VS server. I was surprised to find, for the site, that Forms Authentication was "locked as readonly" in the management console despite being specified in web.config.
Enabling anonymous authentication and explicitly accessing the default.aspx page resulted in a "no element found" XML parsing error, despite the page being operational. Any ideas?

re: Dave K: When you say "it can not", are you saying that the default theme settings in xp can not be tweaked and that the spywareblaster application and/or the firefox browser and/or any internet site I go to have the complete control as to whether or not the progress bar will be segmented.It seems very odd that every web site I happen to be on,that the progress bar is always the identically the same segmented display.So,its probably not the various web site formats that determine the look of the progress bar, because there would probably be some variations in the appearance of the progress bar at least by some web sites.
Then,is it the firefox browser application that is drawing the progress bar to have segements?
It is not the spywareblaster application that is determining the appearance of the segmented progress bar because I still get the same segmented progress bar even if I do not run the spyblaster program before I go on the internet.
I have not installed any other applications onto the xp that are specifically meant to change the appearance of the progress bar.
Which application on my computer is producing the same segmented progress bar?
If an application external to the xp operating system happens to be "relying on a standard windows component" to draw the progress bar,tell me , what does the appearance of the progress bar look like if windows xp default setting is being used to draw the progress bar? Let me guess , the progress bar would be a segmented green bar.
Also, why is Vista a solid green progress bar? Is it because the Vista operating system has a default setting that is designed not to allow any external applications to overide the appearance of the solid green progress bar?

First, hit reply on the last post in the thread to keep all of these posts in together. Don't keep starting new threads.
I'm not saying that the fault theme settings can or cannot be tweaked. I'm saying the you have little to no control over how the progress bar is rendered. The application has THE last say on how the progress bar looks. You cannot change that.
If you're talking about the FireFox browser, it's more than likely using it's own progress bar control, which XP themes won't touch anyway.
BTW, XP themes also has very little control over the progress bar appearance. It only works if whatever application is using the standard Windows control AND doesn't force the appearance parameters to whatever it wants, by passing the theme parameters.
Also, the website have zero control over how FireFox, or any other web browser, renders it's progress bar for loading a page.

If the app is using the Windows standard control AND doesn't force any parameters beyond the defaults, the bar is going to be segmented.

There are no settings that override an applications requests. Microsoft decided to change the default look and feel of Vista so there were no segmented progress bars used by default anywhere, so long as the standard control was used. An application can still opt to use it's own control to do this and can even tell the standard control to render segmented bars.

No, because there's nothing to lock. The progressbar control doesn't use any settings from any registry location or file that can be modified.

Replace the standard Windows control with a version written by yourself that implement all of the same functionality on the very same COM GUID's that the original control uses.

re: Dave K; Thanks for your informative comments about the segmented progress bar in xp and the default theme configuration etc.You answered my basic questions.I just finished writing out a page in this reply ,but I pressed a wrong key and lost the data.I was just rehashing some of what you had written.I had also asked a couple of questions about where the computer user would store a modified xp default theme progam.Could it be stored in any folder on the computer or would it have to be in a specific location such as a folder or sub folder in the Windows folder or in the services.msc location or possibly in the startup folder?
Since, I am not versed in programming, I think that I will try doing a search on the internet to see if there are any software developers who would be willing to write up a modified xp default theme program and sell it through downloads on the internet and a possible option for a cd or usb flash stick copy would be a plus,since it should have no viruses.
Besides the firefox browser,there is a chance that such a modified program could also work on the spywareblaster program that I use and also a couple of utility,maintenance programs that I run weekly; ccleaner,auslogics registry defrag and auslogics disc defrag that supplemment windows disc cleaner and disc defrag utilities.The ccleaner and auslogics utilities also use the segmented green progress bar.

Robert, have you heard of SysInternals? They are now part of Microsoft. You can download their suite of applications. Run their ProcMon.exe "Process Monitor" application then run whatever program you wish, including changing themes. The Process Monitor will record ALL file and registry activity. Be warned - it is a very very large record. From what is displayed (you can save to disk the record as a text file), eventually (read that as "a very long time"), as you read the recorded data, you will have an idea of what exactly happens when you run a particular program - what registry keys it accesses - what files it accesses - and your knowledge will be enhanced.

I load that antivirus program before loading my firefox browser to go on the internet.The segmented progress bar is displayed on the spywareblaster program as it is loading and I would like to be able to get a solid green progress bar instead of the segmented progress bar that has that wertical white line in each of the green segements.
If that "default theme" parameter is an inherant setting in the xp operating system ,then it should be possible to access it and tweak it, just as there are dozens of other settings in xp that have tweaks that have been written and are available for anyone to apply.
When I am surfing on the internet with the firefox browser I would like to get a sold green progress bar displayed each time I switch to a new site or am downloading a program etc. thanks, R.W.

It can't. Any application that uses the progress bar must also specify the type of bar to draw. There is no setting you can change that will override what an application does to draw the bar. It's also very possible and very probable that the application is drawing the progress bar itself instead of relying on a standard Windows component to do it.

I have two of them. I'd like to have only one, since they're identical and I haven't a clue where the second one came from. Does anyone know where this service is started? It's probably just a duplicate Registry entry causing two instances to load at startup, but I don't know what the service is called, or where it normally gets instantiated. Clues, anyone?

i installed WXPP onto two different partitions, i'd like to know if there's a safe way to replicate applications installations from one partition to the other, licensing issues apart .

You'd need an application that took a snapshot of a machine on which you are about to do the installation, do the install, then take another snapshot. This will generate another installation where all of those changes where made, including new files added and changed and registry updates. Then you run that installation on the other machines.
Really, it's best just to do the install over again on the target machines.

Does anyone know how to tweak windows xp so that the segmented green progress bar is a solid green colour ,without the vertical white line in each of the green segements and not have to install some other application language such as visual basic onto the xp operating system in order to run some new progress bar program.
Is there a registry editor tweak or a batch program etc;
that could do this modification?

I hope this is the best place to ask this question.
Few days back I installed VMWare workstation 5 on Vista Home Basic as host. I have installed Windows XP as guest OS in the VMWare. While installing I had set the network connection as "NAT : Share host's IP Address". I guess it is because of this I am able to access Internet from the guest OS.
I want to share files between the host and the guest OS. Can someone help with this? Here are some info in case it is required.
Virtual network settings summary
VMnet0 (bridged) :- Bridged to automatically chosen adapter.
Subnet : 255.255.255.2
VMnet1 (Host-only) :- A private network shared with host.
Subnet : 192.168.175.0
DHCP : Enabled
VMnet8 (NAT) :- Used to share host's IP address.
Subnet : 192.168.240.0
DHCP : Enabled

I haven't used VMware Workstation 5, but in version 6 there's a Shared Folders feature in the VM settings where you can configure folders to share with the VM. These then appear under a fake network computer called '.host', so you can access it by going to Start, Run and entering \\.host as the address.
You need the VMware Tools installed on the VM for this to work.
VMware support Workstation on Windows Vista as of version 6.
