Ok sorting regions alphabetically is a little anal and really does not make sense - sort by function groups yes.

I think you are in for a bit of a shock, I'm betting most of us do it manually and don't think twice about it, organising your code should be so natural and so much of a habit that when someone comments on it you can't understand what they are talking about.

I second that, Mycroft.

I do this all the time. In fact it is one of my pet peeves when developers do not do it.
I have a few things that tick me off... take a look here[^] for some examples...

Hello,
I'm trying to compile a vb6 application I've made but I keep getting this error below
Compile Error in File 'D:\TAT\VB6\apps\go bingo\Connection.bas', Line 121 : Sub or Function not defined
Line 121 consists of this block of code...
Function addrec(myform As Form, mydata As adodc)
On Error Resume Next
mydata.Recordset.AddNew
mycmd = cmds(myform, False)
addflag = True
End Function
...line 21 is mydata.Recordset.AddNew . I've tried to comment-out the code but the error keeps persisting. How could I compile the project properly?
Many thanks for your replies.

You defined a function but did not supply a return value type. It should be:
Function addrec(myform As Form, mydata As adodc) As someType
If you're not returning a value to the caller, change Function to Sub .

Oh... My apologies for the novice post. Thanks for the help Sir! Works perfectly now

Mate you have more problems than I am going to be able to help you with. SQL server 7 is so old it is no longer supported by MS, if you have QA you are just going to have to find your way around it. Most here have not seen SQL 7 for 8 YEARS or more.
I'm really sorry if you have to work with SW so old and truly hope you get the opportunity to upgrade because you are going to find very limited support for SW so far out of date.

You might want to stop YELLING and then ask this question in the SQL Forum since it has nothing to do with VB or VB.NET.

I am using Vb.net 3.5 as FrontEnd.
When I am Open a Modal Form such as any Message box. I want to Chnage the Background Form Faded.
that means I want to Show the users the Active and DeActive form.
when I am using another form as faded Form, and opened before the modal form that is not good enogh. because, the whole things get flicker, I need a smooth task.
Can it be Possible,So how can I do that. Please give me a suggestion.

Windows already takes care of this for you with different colors for the window border and title bar.
pdnet wrote: I want to Chnage the Background Form Faded.
In that case, you'll have to create your own Sub's to change the Opacity of the form, show the message box, then when that returns, return the Opacity of the form to its previous value.

Exactly I am doing that.
But When a Modal form is open as show dialog the whole thing is Flikering
I need a smooth work.

What's flickering?? The entire Desktop or just the form you change the Opacity on? Did you try turning on DoubleBuffering on your forms?
|
|
|

Changing the Double Buffering on but the Problem same
Change the Double Buffering in all the Forms or just the modal form

That's just not going to happen. We don't just hand over completed projects. We'll help you write your own code, but we won't write it for you.
BTW, what do you mean by "marksheet"??

Hi All!
In my application, i am trying to add an event handler at runtime using AddHandler, but cannot seem to find how to pass an argument with that event handler, for instance:
Function SomeHandler(ByVal MyMessage As String)
MsgBox(MyMessage)
Return 0
End Function
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
AddHandler Button1, AddressOf SomeHandler("Hello World!")
End Sub
This Will Not work, I'm told that I have to state the function name, without parentheses.
How would I use this method to pass arguments to an event handler function?
Thanks!
MrWolfy

You don't pass arguments in AddHandler. It does exactly that, no more. AddHandler wires up an event to a method handling that event. AddHandler does not Raise the event. That's done using, oddly enough, the RaiseEvent statement.
MrWolfy wrote: Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load AddHandler Button1, AddressOf SomeHandler("Hello World!")End Sub
Your code wont event compile because you haven't told AddHandler which event to wire up to SomeHandler.

Dave,
that's not true is it? RaiseEvent will only work with the keyword 'event'
Example:
Private Event Test
Private sub ClickMe()
RaiseEvent Test
End Sub
======
You cannot raiseevent of another object that has built in events (where you didn't use the keyword 'event')

no biggy. Just making sure incase I was missing something. I always thought it would be nice to raise an object's event but MS doesn't let us play that way...
