Seems rather obvious to me. You are trying to open a VS2008 (ver 9) file with vs2005 (ver 8). Why not get VS2008 express.

ver 9 is VS 2008
Open up VS, go to help | about and you will see the version, in 2005 it is 8.#######.

This is what i mean, open a solution file in a notepad and you can see the version.
=========================
solution file for vs2005
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 9.00
# Visual Studio 2005
Project("{F184B08F-C81C-45F6-A57F-5ABD9991F28F}") = "Squawk", "Squawk\Squawk.vbproj", "{AF4879E7-ED61-4247-A0A3-46A4D14B536D}"
EndProject
=========================
solution file for vs2008
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 10.00
# Visual Studio 2008
Project("{F184B08F-C81C-45F6-A57F-5ABD9991F28F}") = "ProjectConverter", "ProjectConverter.vbproj", "{B637ACFD-0AFC-4FBB-A8C0-602B5ABA62F0}"
EndProject
* My problem is every time I double click my solution file it will not open eventhough it is in vs2005.

Interesting, I looked at the VS IDE, not the solution file. The IDE version is 8 and 9, not 10.

Subtle but confusing difference. The Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 10.00 line does not indentify the version of Visual Studio but rather the version of the solution file itself. The version of Visual Studio is identified by the next line (# Visual Studio 2008 .
Visual Studio 2008 is actually Visual Studio version 9 but uses a solution file format of 10.00. Likewise, Visual Studio 2005 is actually Visual Studio version 8 but uses a solution file format of 9.00.

Hi,
Don't bother trying to fix it. Just delete the solution file and then open the main project in VS. It will automatically generate a new solution. You can then add any other projects back into the new solution using "add existing project".

You are trying to open a Visual Studio 2008 solution file in Visual Studio 2005? You can't do that. You can open projects but not solutions.
Your only options are to have two different solution files, one for VS2008 and one for VS2005 or to edit the solution file each time. To edit the solution file, simply change the "10.00" to a "9.00" (line 1) and the "2008" to a "2005" (line 2).

That's why I had a big clause in braces (in fact I have no idea what the version numbers of VS are, except the year and SP number)

Am currently studying C# using a book title "Beginning C# 2008: From Novice to Professional, Second Edition"
now am looking for a site where i can see free projects with specification for learners that i can test what i have learnt
probably building projects so that i can put in my portfolio for employers to see.

am not actually looking for a job bidding site...all i want is where free project specifications are posted so i can practice what i have learnt

you dont need to bid, just look for projects in c#, get their specs and try for your own, no commitments

I am trying to access a .net dll from excel via VBA. I am able to successfully do that on my machine.
But when I try to do the same on user's machine(which does not have VS 2003 but has .net Framework 1.1) The excel (as soon as I open the excel file) gives me an error "File or assembly name QueryData, or one of its dependencies, was not found".
I follow the following steps on the user's machine:
1. Register the .net dll using regasm tool and create a .tlb file
Regasm QueryData.dll /tlb:QueryData.tlb
2. Add this tlb file to the references of the excel.
3. Close the excel sheet and open it again (I have some code in the workbook_open event of excel).
I don't get any errors while generating the tlb file, but as soon as I open the excel I get the error mentioned above. I have also copied all the dlls from the bin folder of my dev machine to the folder (having QueryData.dll) on the user machine.
I have no clue why the excel file is not able to find the dll. Any pointers??
Thanks,
Neeraj

Hi friends,
I wrote a TcpListener in my machine in port 20000 and clients connect to this server and everything's fine in LAN, but I have error in Internet connections, here's my Listener code:
int port = 20000;
string recieved = null;
string send = null;
TcpListener listener = new TcpListener(IPAddress.Any, port);
listener.Start();
TcpClient tcp = listener.AcceptTcpClient();
NetworkStream netstream = tcp.GetStream();
StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(netstream);
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(netstream);
recieved = sr.ReadLine();
Console.WriteLine("\nMessage Recieved : " + recieved);
send = Console.ReadLine();
sw.WriteLine(send);
sw.Flush();
Console.WriteLine("\nMessage Sent : " + send);
netstream.Close();
tcp.Close();
and Client code:
string server = "192.168.1.4";
int port = 20000;
string sendmessage = null;
string recievemessage = null;
while (true)
{
TcpClient tcp = new TcpClient(server, port);
NetworkStream netstream = tcp.GetStream();
StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(netstream);
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(netstream);
sendmessage = Console.ReadLine();
sw.WriteLine(sendmessage);
sw.Flush();
Console.WriteLine("\nMessage Sent : " + sendmessage);
recievemessage = sr.ReadLine();
Console.WriteLine("\nMessage Recieve : " + recievemessage);
netstream.Close();
tcp.Close();
}
In Internet usage, I have this error:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
I googled and understood that this happens when Server is not listening on this port but my Server was running.
Any idea? Thanks
While (true) { Human.isLearnable = true; }

You may have problems connecting to your server machine through a router (from outside of your LAN) unless you have port forwarding setup. So, try setting up port forwarding to forward all requestes made on port 20000 to your server machine.
