You cannot run SQL Server on a Mac. You'll need to have a Windows machine to run it, and you can connect your Mac to it over the network.

This is mostly theoretical right now, but I am looking to see if this is possible:
I am working on a web application that I want to be able to make available as a back-end to other web applications, but want to allow the ability to accept posts without using a webservice.
Just as an example of what I am looking to do, I want to be able to take a regular HTML page with a submit control, and have the web application be able to accept, say, a string, and process that string. (something simple like save it to the database).
I am familiar with web services in ASP .Net and will be using them as well, but I am looking to allow this alternate method as well. I have been googling it, but haven had much luck so far because its hard to get search engines to not be so literal
I am aware of some Java web apps that do this, usually they process XML input.

WebRequest is the easy way.Web services is better, but a little harder to implement.
It depends on your application needs.

All aspx pages and ashx pages accept post data. What you will be doing, however, is writing duplicate code because it is the exact thing that web services provide for you.

Oh, I am absolutely aware that i will be duplicating my effort with this, it is just about providing options, as well as a healthy dose of preoffesional curiosity.
I appreciate both of you giving me actual answers too, as opposed to "just use web services" or "why dont you just use web services?".

Hi,
I have a chunk of C# calling an unmanaged C++ .DLL. One of these C# wrapper functions accepts a callback delegate, which is used inside the C++ .DLL.
All seems to work fine until I come to close the application, whereupon I get an error saying that I am trying to make a call via a callback delegate on an object which has been garbage collected.
Could anyone point me at a good article which explains how to stop this happening?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Best wishes, Patrick

Pass a null callback function.
Otherwise you will need to keep your object in memory for the life of the c++ dll?

Thanks for the reply.
I cannot pass a null callback function as i do need the functionality it offers.
However, the problem turned out to be that the actual instance of the callback being passed was going out of scope and thus being garbage collected. Making this static fixed the problem.
Best wishes, Patrick

a distributable Windows application using Crystal Reports and C# 2.0
I am using Visual Studio 2005 (8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600)) with the Crystal Reports version that came with it (AAC60-G0CSA4B-V7000AY) and .NET Framework 3.5 and cannot find any clear help on the web (or the Crystal site)

AFAIK, if you use "Bootstrapper" technology, VS automatically adds CR runtime packages to your deployment setup.
I would suggest search on this topic.

Hi friend,
I want use pogressbar on MDI parent that should be loaded every time based on loading time of form of MDI Childs like in IE when ever we open website tha progress has shown in statusbar na like that i want.

Use delegates. MDI form should subscribe delegates declared on the child forms. Child form can call that delegate when update in MDI form is required.

How do you call rollback from a custom action dll? (calling directly base.Rollback doesn't works, throwing InstallException is not OK because of the Unhandeld exception MessageBox)

Hello,
I'm trying to access an https page, I don't know why .NET doesn't allow it
here is the error I got
"The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel."
and when I try to override ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback with this function
public static bool ValidateServerCertificate(
object sender,
X509Certificate certificate,
X509Chain chain,
SslPolicyErrors sslPolicyErrors)
{
return true;
}
I got time out exception.
here is a snippet of my code
ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback += new System.Net.Security.RemoteCertificateValidationCallback(ValidateServerCertificate);
CookieContainer c = new CookieContainer();
reqLogin = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
reqLogin.Method = "POST";
reqLogin.UserAgent = "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)";
reqLogin.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded";
reqLogin.KeepAlive = true;
reqLogin.CookieContainer = new CookieContainer();
reqLogin.CookieContainer = c;
reqLogin.AllowAutoRedirect = true;
reqLogin.UseDefaultCredentials = true;
reqLogin.Timeout = 5000;
using (StreamWriter sendingData = new
StreamWriter(reqLogin.GetRequestStream()))
{
sendingData.Write(postMessage);
sendingData.Flush();
sendingData.Close();
}
resLogin = (HttpWebResponse)reqLogin.GetResponse();
I'm sure that you faced that problem before, i'm searching about a solution for this problem from 4 hours and couldn't find any solution, I really hope that you can help me
Thanks in Advance.

You're having a laugh aren't you? You want the control, you write the code. You have the main bits (from someone else's effort) and now you want a mug to finish the job for you? Try www.rentacoder.com

Presumably PAID hours (or if not, then it's presumably for your own benefit), so now you are looking for someone to spend unpaid time doing your work. Best of luck, you will need it.
