I have a design issue.
I need a place where i can store a list of files that is per user, persistant for each run of the application and available on NT aswell as Win98/95 etc..
Ideally I would like a directory where i can store shortcuts to the files.
I'm developing on Win2K and I have a directory called
D:\Documents and Settings\Asim Hussain
1) Is there a function where I can get this directory like ::GetSystemDirecory?
2) Will this work cross platform, i.e. Win98 (*ughh* -- Shivers down my spine), will it still give me a valid directory considering that its single user etc...
I could just stick it all in the registry, but using shortcuts will save me a lot of time in displaying these files since all i will have to do is show the directory in a ShellView.
Cheers

I've created an mfc-dll on a win98/2 and it works fine, but on winNT/2000 "sometimes" it crashes.
Are there any platform-rules I have to take into account when building the dll, so it can be run on winNT?
tnx.

First of all, remove 'sometimes' from the equation. Can you reproduce the problem running under debugger? Check the call stack after crash and see what's the problem.

unfortunatly, I cannot run the debug build, cause the nt machine doesn't have debugging dll's
But, I think I've figured out my problem. It has something to do with the memory addressing. I guess that win98 uses signed to address memory, but nt uses unsigned, and that gives troubles when you calculate with them. Is that true?
What's the best type to address memory then? is it something like unsigned dword? I don't know, types are not my speciality (cause there are trillions of them)
Are there any other diffs between win98 and nt?

The layout of process address space is different in 9x and NT/2K/XP. Are you converting your pointers to integers? If so, why?

Hello!!
I'm trying to scroll the contents of a RichEditCtrl using the
CRichEditCtrl::LineScroll(..) member function, however I cannot do any
horizontal scrolling when I call for example LineScroll(0, 10) inside the
OnHScroll() handler.
The RichEditCtrl is not created using the ES_RIGHT or ES_CENTER style that is mentioned in the MSDN Library.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?????
Thanks!!!

I need to use the Automation to export data from
a VC++ application into an Excel document.
I also need to manage the Excel sheet in oder to
add, remove and move cells, colums and rows.
Does someone know where I can find some samples
or information ??
I know nothing about it and I need help!!!

Visual C++ comes with COMEXCEL sample. You may use it as a starting point.

Your sample are very interesting !!!!
Do you know where can I find some documentation
about Office methods ??
Now I think that the main difficult is to find
the appropriate method to use and to supply the
right parameters to it !!!

Normaly, you should have all the doc needed on your machine.
Look into Microsoft Office/Office/1033/vbaxl9.chm. It's the visual basic excel reference, but you can use it to invoke methods and propertyget/put.
btw. the 9 in vbaxl9.chm can be another number, defining the version of excel.

I already said that I did some excel automatisation in c++. It's a long and hard way (especially if you're going to catch the excel events too).
So don't hesitate to ask in the future, it can save you a lot of time.

Suppose there is a function having some local variables and local objects. This function calls some other function. Now at this stage do we say that local variables/objects goes out of scope. Does the destructors of local objects called here ??
OR
Do we say that local variables/objects goes out of scope when a certain function returns ??
|
|
|
|
|
They are still in scope untill the function they were declared in exits or when they reach the end bracket from which they were declared.
{
int poo;
{
//poo still in scope
}
} <-- poo out of scope and deleted.

I have a dialog that I invoke with a button press on a Propertypage. From within the Dialog I want to acces certain propertypage member variables.
This is the way I do it.
m_List = ((CParameterPage*) GetParent())->m_ParList;
But it seems that all variables I acces are uninitialized eventhough they have correct values before I invoke the dialog!
What am I doing wrong?
|
|
|
|
|
Actually, a dialog invoked from property page isn't a child window. So you can't use GetParent; add the pointer as a memmber of CYourDialog class. If you only need to access the list, add the pointer/reference to the list instead.

I have to draw some measurepoints in the view of a CScrollView. So, have anyone a idea how to make this (FLICKERFREE!!!) on a pocket pc (no directdraw...).
Should I draw the measurepoints in a mem dc and blit that in the view?
