I don't think a checkbox is necessary. About half of my contracts come from agencies, and I don't want to discourage that. I can do my own filtering.
The idea of a Contractors' Board is a great one.

Yeah but I wouldn't pay to advertise to a recruiter. Ever checked out Dice.com and tried to find a direct employer looking for a contract?

I tell the agencies I deal with what rate I want. What they make above that, is up to them. I don't care where the contracts come from, as long as I get the rate I ask for.

My concern is there are plenty of places to meet up with recruiters. Pick up a phone book, go to a job board, look anywhere and they are crawling out of the woodwork. I wouldn't pay for a service that gave me something I can get for free everywhere else. What I don't have is a cost-effective place to advertise my services to direct clients.

I hear what you're saying, but if I'm going to pay for an ad, I want as many eyeballs as possible to see it. In this economy, I don't want to miss anything, even if I have to do some weeding.

Just as a thought Chris - you might want to set a rate of (say) $250.

Not just independent consultants - we would be interested in this as well.

I agree with the idea of doing something along these lines to help consultants such as myself be visible to small-medium sized businesses who may have an interest as well. Seems like it would be an idea that would be win-win for everyone.

Whenever I try to paste into a message, all I get is an HREF open/close tag. Doesn't matter what I have on the clipboard (URL, code, etc). I tried unchecking "Auto-encode HTML when pasting?" but that doesn't do anything for me.
Thoughts?

Which browser, any add-ins (CPHog etc) and is there a minimum text you are trying to paste that causes the problem?

IE 7 (7.0.5730.11). No add-ins other than the common ones (Adobe PDF, Flash, Java engine, etc). Any text I try to paste yields the problem. I actually tried copying-and-pasting the "IE 7" I started this reply with and got the problem. Baffling...

My article had HTML escape characters for things like the Greek Delta symbol, but now they are all gone, leaving question marks in their place. Can someone suggest as to how that could have happened?
The article is here:

I just tried editing your article and inserted "ρ" and then previewed. Everything seems fine from my end.
Do you have your browser using a custom code-page?

Umm, it worked fine initially, on various browsers and platforms. My guess is someone has edited the original file and the editor lost the escape characters.

I've retested and cannot replicate the issue. Hmmm.

I've taken a look at the said article and everything looks great from here.

Hi,
when I add a message to an article that subsequently disappears, the message is still listed
in the "Latest Messages" page like so[^], but when clicked it shows a "The article you want to view was deleted ..."
page, resulting in my message being listed but yet unavailable to me!?!?
|
|
|
|
|
I'll add a bug entry to have the messages no longer listed.
cheers,

Classic comedy moment. I changed my display name for comedic effect. When attempting to change it back again the My Settings page says that the name has already been registered, please chose another one - or try retrieving your password blah blah blah. I try retrieving my password using my display name to be told "Can't find user information. These are not the droids you are looking for. Move along. & etc."
Ordinarily, I'd be happy to go around in circles all night but it just so happens I have some important drinking to take care of and I fear that I might not be in the right state of mind to cope with it later on.
Anyway, I almost wet myself laughing when I thought I'd be "Brigg Thorpe and so's my wife" for eternity.

You are a muppet.
However, I've fixed your name and also fixed the bug (though not uploaded the fix) that caused this problem. It was...the underscore. (I wanted to say "Salmon mousse" but that would have been a lie)

We're used to other developers' asking questions in the forums. I'm not often answering questions, but I try to help when I see the opportunity. I have learned most of the trade from the community, by asking dumb questions and being a general PITA.
We got some more audiences here;
- The consultants that 'urgently' need some copy/paste code
- Those looking for help with their homework
The last one can be split into the group that wants their homework done for them, and the group that genuinely is looking for information. There's a huge difference in the formulation of an answer when dealing with those different audiences.
Is there a way that we can differentiate here? A special forum for homework might help, but we'll get a mix of C#/VB.NET questions in a single forum. That might not be so desirable.
Another option would be to categorize the desired type of answer; 'pointer to info', 'explanation' etc.
Any thoughts?
