Hi
I am relatively new to Reporting in VB.NET. Actually I am asked to retrieve a report which would basically contain some items with extensive calculations which I already constructed for on-screen display, now while creating crystal reports I didnt find the way to refer to that function so that on each retrieval of the database value, report will pass it to a function of VB.NET and then the function will return the value to display in the report i.e.
Private Function CAmt(ByVal Amt as integer) as String
Select Case Amt
Case 1
Return "One"
Case 2
Return "Two"
Case Else
Return amt.tostring
End Select
End Function
Hope you got what I mean to say.
Please help me asap.

you can create formula(say Camt) in formula editor. Now within editor window choose database field and then use if else operator . See link Create formula in crystal report
hope this helps

If u want retrieval of the database value. U can use the SQL statement and assigned respected fields.

If you can access the Amt field in crystal report, then create a formula with some name, and go to edit(formula editor).
Write the logic there..
like
if Amt = 1 then
"One"
else if Amt = 2 then
"Two"
else
Cstr(Amt)

Hello,
How do I include the database that I am using to my VB .NET application?
My application and the DB is connected via the ODBC. And i dont want to set up the database in another PC and creating the database and tables, etc... I would like to have the DB, tables, etc setup once my application is installed.. Possible?
The database that I am using is mySQL Server 5.0; Driver is: MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver
Visual Studio 2005. And I am planning to publish the application via the publish tab in the properties.

I have used MySQL in Linux Environment a long time ago. propably in redhat 6 . i have never used it in Windows. but to my knowledge Mysql is not like MS Access , you cannot ship it with your Application. even SQL you cannot do that. We usually have a Server and our Applications will point to that Server for Data, but now if you want to Copy your App on the CD and expect a DB , i think you should go for MSAccess.
Hope this Helps

Really?? Bummer. So, the only way around this is to just put all the tables in a text file and just copy-paste it then, huh?
Thank you

No. I don't use MySQL so I can't really comment on it specifically.
But, you normally include a blank copy of your database files or the SQL scripts to create the database in your installer. You can execute anything you need to setup the database from there.

i dont know how to do the scripts. can you help me?
im going to publish my application thru solution explorer>properties>publish tab

Hi there,
I've read and implemented a thumbnail viewer. thanks to "Marc Lievin"
Now all is working fine except my app is using a lot of memory.. it seems to not dispose the objects properly.. I've done some reading on the topic and managed to get some disposing done in my app but its still not working the way i expected.. When i start my app it uses around 26MB of mem(in tskmgr). as soon as i start loading from a specific folder this usage goes up(which is understandable)..
my question is.. when i go to another folder and come back to the previous one the memory usage is different from what it was before. Shouldn't it be the same again?

I hope you're not looking in Task Manager to see how much memory your app is using. TM isn't accurate at all because of how the .NET CLR works.

Whoops, you are using Task Manager. Don't. Use Performance Monitor instead, and it's .NET CLR Memory counters. They will tell you how much memory your app is really using.

No. Task Manager is telling you how much memory the .NET CLR has reserved for the virtual machine that is running your code. This includes memory that your app is not using, but the CLR has in it's managed heap waiting for your app to make object allocations. Like I said, Task Manager is the worst tool you can use to check your .NET app's memory usage.

Hi all...
I am using VS2005 and creating a program in VB.NET
Program is used to search thousends of files from hard disk , and some program is searching a record among thousends of records from database(MS Access2003).
All have almost done but I want to know that how to calculate the remaining time in searching a particular record.
Thanks.

You can't do it easily as you have no idea how big/how many the files are on the disk or how many records there are in the database.

Basically, unless you know how many records are in the database or the number of files on the disk before you start, you can't.
A "percentage complete" calculation requires that you know two things. How many items you are going through and your position in those item.
A "time to complete" calculation requires that you know three things. You must know the same thing as "percentage complete" as well as how long it took you to get to the position you're at. From there, you can calculate how long it's going to take to get through the remainging items.

Hi,
I need your help. I'm trying to publish my application using the Publish tab from the Solution Explorer > Properties.. It produced the exe file and everything, and when i tried to install it in another PC, the error shows:
The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument' threw an exception.
I was wondering how i could include in the Publish all the necessary files for the Crystal Report? So that if I install it in another PC, only my Setup.exe is needed and no other external installation will be needed.
Thank you!
Application was developed using
Visual Studio 2005 and .Net 2.0 Framework

Grace

Try following
on publish tab click the 'Prerequistie' button. This action open a window and then select 'Crystal Reports for .NET framework 2.0 ' option
hope this helps
