I don't respond to demands. Demanding something when you are not in a position to do so is very rude.
My boss may demand something of me because he has the power and authority to do that. On the other hand, I'm giving up my free time to suggest that you may want to look at an alternative way of doing something and you get pissed off with me because it does not fit the route you want to take.
If someone says that they want to go from Glasgow to London I will suggest taking the M74, M6 then M1. If they insist on going by Inverness, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Birmingham, and Bristol en route for no good reason then I'm really at a loss as to give them an easy route. I can suggest the M8, M80, M9, A9, A96, A90, M90, A1, M1, M62, M60, M56, M6, M5, M32, and M4 but that is a heck of a long explanation when the reality is that they don't actually need to go via all these places, they just want to get to Lonodn.
As far, as I can, see attempting to make a mountain out of a mole hill. In my experience there is no good reason to do this.

Well, now you are just shouting... And it was you that used the word "demand". I don't know how else to interpret demand. Someone with power or in authority can demand stuff (my boss, a police office, a polititian, a pissed off customer). Someone with neither cannot.

You know what... I'm on this forum becuase I've made mistakes in the past, coming up with weird convoluted solutions to problems. All I am trying to do is to prevent other people making the mistakes I made. If you don't want the benefit of my advice (even if it is simply to say "that's the wrong road") then fair enough. If that is the impession I gave then I am sorry. I still make mistakes and I still trying to help people and put up signs to say "Wrong Way" if I discover the road does not lead in the right direction. Even if I do not know the right way, alerting people to the wrong way is better than nothing.

As far as I can see that is what I have done here. I advised that the route you have chosen is not a wise choice. I just like big tasks... as I sense that the basic flexibility for those classes needs to be on discussion... And I am ready to begin working on it...
Databases Engines are for help, not to orient the code... As I think that way...
And, for that... I will try to have some flexibility on those classes...

You can ask the user how many lines to print and then make sure you only print that number of lines in the code that actually passes your document to the printer.
That the printer is dot matrix is totally irrelevant.

Can someone recommend a book, etc. from which I can learn about interfacing with Internet Explorer from within VB? For example, I'd like to learn how to start IE, go to a WEB site, fill in a search box, command a search and then capture the results all from within a VB program.
Would appreciate any suggestions you can offer.

You would do this by placing a web browser control on your form, so you can interact with it, and then use the DOM to find your controls and interact with them. Of course, once the page you're working with changes, your code could well break.

 I am reading images from a webcam, thru a Belkin F5u208 interface to a USB2.0 port. This works fine. What I need to do is poke around in the actual video data to look for certain events in that video data. I set up the display window as follows:-
hwdc = capCreateCaptureWindow("My Window", ws_child Or ws_visible, 0, 0, 320, 240, MyPicture.hWnd, 0)
Is there an API call which will take either hwdc or MyPicture.hWnd as a parameter and deliver me a real memory pointer as a Long? I can then use this as a ByRef in a procedure and access the data as an array. If no API call, has anyone actually done this, and if so, how?

Not in Windows, no. You'd need the an SDK that works with that camera.
But, a pointer wouldn't do you any good in VB.NET, or since VB.NET doesn't support pointers. C# on the other hand...

Thanks for the info - we will use C for the final version, but VB is my "natural" home for messing about, and I can do it in VB6, it is not as picky as the later versions of VB.
What exactly does "hwdc" point to? A structure with pointers?

"hwdc" is a handle to a device context. It's not a pointer. The closest equivilent is the Graphics class in .NET.

Yes, I understand that. I am re-reading all about GDI handle tables and how they relate to the user and the referenced object(s). My source is "Windows Graphics Programming - Win32 GDI and Direct Draw" by Feng Yuan (HP), Prentice Hall ISBN 0-13-086985-6. Not exactly bedtime reading, but there are a number of very useful tools which I used previously to identify what was going on (creating spy DLL's, APIMON etc), and some interesting analysis of bitmap operations.
The end result is heading for an embedded XP system running on a PC104 card performing realtime image analysis, so I don't mind bending the rules or creating a "one-off" special DLL.

I created a stored procedure to return data to a data set. The stored procedure has one input param and contains a temp table for processing a couple columns (adding a join in this scenario will not work). I have a
The stored procedure works find and returns a result set as expected.
I attempt to create the new datatable in the dataset by right clicking in the designer and adding a new tableadapter.
I choose existing stored procedure and get to the last screen of the config wizard and get "Invalid object name #tmpStatusHistoryReasons".
Anyone know of a work around for this? Using framework 2.1.
Any suggestions, ideas, or 'constructive criticism' are always welcome.

This is a known issue even in VS2008. Adding the following condition works (even though the code never gets executed):

I have been trying for weeks now to install VB 2008 on my XP Laptop and I have never been successful...Each time i try it attempts to instal microsoft.net framework 3.5 and this installation goes on for over 6hours without any error watsoever.....i always have to stop the installation.... please I need to know if there are any known issues.....its the express edition though......
