Paul,
I think I have not explained myself very well, and this is coming across as much more complex than it needs to be. Try not to think of this all happening on the server side or from the web page at all, because it will in fact happen from the database side with a one-way communication involved. I don't need synchranous dialogue with the webpage - database, nor do I need open connections to and from the database, nor does the buttton need to do anything other than what it already does. Everything is already in place, take a look here http://run-mapper-kml.appspot.com/.
Think of it like this instead; ordinarily the user would simply paste the kml text into the form text area and push the button. The bit I want to do is to get rid of the pasting bit and send the text straight to the box. Now look at this:
stAppName = "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=" & MyData
it is code (which works) from the database to simply call the url for googlemaps and send it some data, which will drop straight into the googlemaps search box, ready for a button to be pressed. As you can see their is no querying involved, there is no database access involved at all. Because all of this will happen from the other end, namely the database fron end, and not the web page.
I want to replace the code element above maps?f=q&hl=en&q=" with something that would work on my webpage. In other words I just want to know how to reference the actual form text area so that my code will look more like this:
stAppName = "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe http://run-mapper-kml.appspot.com/code to link to the form & MyData
Does that make sense?

Yes, it does make sense, but from what I've read/researched for your problem, it sounds like it cannot be done other than the way you have that does work.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q= does involve server side scripting to be done and there are reasons for that.

Paul,
Yes, I agree with you that the way googlemaps do their's would involve server side scripting in order to return a result (map); but bearing in mind that their's is also going to interrorgate the server for a map result.
But, where my version differs is that the 'Paste KML here' box in conjunction with the button has already got that covered. What I am trying to do is dend my data to the live form (instead of a user having to cut and paste it in), not neccesarily to the server itself where I may be expecting an instant return/result on what was sent.
Imagine for a moment that I didn't want to send anything sensible to the server side, instead consider that I just want to send some 'junk' text to a text area on a form, because essentialy speaking that is all I want to do, eg: send junk text. It is only when it is in the form and the crucial button is pressed that the junk text actually means something. So How would one send just text to a form on a webpage? (not specifically to the url)?

Christian,
Go easy on me... I'm not a programmer in any sense. I'm just a guy that wants to send some text to a form on my website. I don't know how to go about writing server code to enable the form to receive data or even in which language to write it in.
is there some drop in code/snippet on the web that would enable a form to recieve text from an external source, where I can simply change the form/text area name or references? I can't be the only person that has ever required something so basic as this.
sorry if I have offended anyone.

Why are you using VBScript ? Why not just chop your arms off and be done with it ?

Your question is really not clear, tho i'll try to answer.
First of all, if you want to upload content via a webpage, use the Asp:FileUploader control. On the post back, you can use the FileUploader.Save method to save the file to the server.
Then, on a second page, you will have to use System.IO to get all the files in a directory, and print the list as the webpage output.

You need to post in the appropriate forum. This forum is for web development, and what does your inquiry have to do with it?

This may be a very big undertaking for a student, not sure what level you are, but your instructor should be the one providing you with assistance in this.

Hi all,
In my web page, i am retrieving data for select element using Ajax. My webservice return me a collection of values as Ilist.
How to bind that collection to the select control, that DTO class has ID(bind to the value) and Name(bind to text).
Please suggest me or give me some like to learn how to do this.
Thank you

Hi guys,
I'm looking for ideas for how to get a ¬ character used in a Javascript function call. We're currently using it as a delimiter in a JSON string, which is fine under an EN-gb language.
However, one of our en-IE clients has the problem that when the js file is loaded into IE7, the ¬ gets replaced with a ?. In the file, we split our JSON string using s.replace (/¬/g, '\n\r') , it gets swapped out in the file for /?/, causing an Unexpected Quantifier error.
For a variety of reasons, it would be really tricky to simply use a different delimiter (which is why we don't use a more normal | or , in the first place!), so I'm after any ideas as to how to "force" it through.
Setting the client browser to EN-gb doesn't do the job, is there perhaps a server setting that I need to be looking at? Additionally, the when viewed using alert(), the ¬ characters are correctly displayed...
C# has already designed away most of the tedium of C++.

hello..
im currently designing a personal site and i made a feedback page that has the following code:
<FORM ACTION="" METHOD="POST">
Your Name: <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="Name">
Your Email: <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="Email">
Your Comments: <TEXTAREA NAME="comments"></TEXTAREA>
<INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" NAME="submit" VALUE="Send feedback">
</FORM>
My question is: Is there any way to send all these form fields to my personal e-mail (xxx@hotmail.com) using javascript or any other scripting language????

Hi,
eh sorry, but isn't it a bit complicated to send an email to you? You are using an ASP application, so why don't you use the values stored within the fields on your server. There you could send a mail to yourself if you like...
But if you still want to use javascript, have a look here: http://www.javascript-coder.com/javascript-form/javascript-email-form.phtml[^]

You can send email in vb script by making cdo object. There are many articles on cdo object on web.

Hi,
This can be accomplished by using BeginRequest and EndRequest methods
of PageRequestManager during asyncpostback.
Sample:
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
var prm = Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance();
prm.add_initializeRequest(InitializeRequest);
prm.add_endRequest(EndRequest);
var postBackElement;
function InitializeRequest(sender, args) {
postBackElement = args.get_postBackElement();
}
function EndRequest(sender, args) {
if (postBackElement.id == 'cmdUpdate') {
displayWindow();
}
}
</script>
Hope this would be useful. Please revert back on any queries.
Thanks,
Rajdev KR

Hi
I am curently developing an client side application that is comsuming a web service method using WSE 2.0. The <to> header is different from the http request url because there is a security device between the client and server that changes the <to> header by appending some random string based on the session. Previoulsly this was working because the web server was not using WSE 2.0.
Is there any way that this can be disabled on the server?
Thank you
