Deleting your message is also a terrible way to try to get help. Does this mean you decided on a new career, or are you just incapable of taking some advice on how to seek (free) help ?

add name="FullName" defaultValue="Anonymous" allowAnonymous="true"

AJAX has a control that does this. Progess something or other, I haven't used AJAX much, but it has the ability to do what you are wanting to do.

If it's what I think it is, it's an animated gif, and the website makes it visible while it's making an AJAX call. You would typically create stuff like that if you actually learn how to write AJAX code, but most people have no idea about AJAX and instead use the Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX library, which provides a wrapper around AJAX. I assume it would include ways to show cursors during AJAX calls.

Hi,
I'm new to AJAX and I've been going crazy trying to figure out what's stopping my controls from updating on the client side rather than just normally sending a post-back.
I have a script manager, and an UpdatePanel which contains a small form and a gridview.
Upon submitting the form, the Gridview should be updated. But it keeps on doing it on the server side.
Here's an edited part of my code:
=================================================================================
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<asp:ScriptManager
ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" />
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBoxValue" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:Button ID="Search" runat="server" CausesValidation="False" Height="22px"
onclick="Search_Click" Text="חפש" UseSubmitBehavior="False" Width="48px" />
<asp:RadioButtonList ID="RadioButtonListDic" runat="server"
RepeatDirection="Horizontal">
<asp:ListItem Selected="True" Text="1234">1234</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Text="1234">1234</asp:ListItem>
</asp:RadioButtonList>
<asp:GridView ID="GridViewResults" runat="server" CellPadding="4" ForeColor="#333333"
GridLines="None" AutoGenerateColumns="False">
</asp:GridView>
</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="Search" EventName="Click" />
</Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
<asp:UpdateProgress ID="UpdateProgress1" runat="server" AssociatedUpdatePanelID="UpdatePanel1">
<ProgressTemplate>
Searching
</ProgressTemplate>
</asp:UpdateProgress>
</form>
=================================================================
As you can see, I've even tried to specificly make the Search button update.
Also I should mention that I'm using a Masterpage, with no ajax controls.
What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks,
JFord

I am deeply suspicious of this.
I do have to wonder what % of devs in the MS world know the slightest thing about AJAX, and what % think that AJAX means a Microsoft library. There are some good books on the Microsoft AJAX library, you should consider reading one, to try to understand the stuff that it's hiding from you. You also need to get Firebug inside firefox so you can step through the client side code and get some idea of what the library is doing, so you can try to understand where it's going wrong. If you were actually using AJAX, it would be a lot easier to understand these sort of issues, because you'd actually understand what was happening.
Oh - here's something. You have onclick="Search_Click". That will be passed through to the client, and will look for a javascript method called 'Search_Click'. If you make it OnClick, then it will get hooked up to your ASP.NET server side code via postback or, hopefully, AJAX in this case.

Thanks for the reply, Christian.
I understand your point about using Microsoft's library instead of writing in javascript. But in my defence, I'm just a high school student so I don't feel compelled to write in javascript when I have a so-called more confortable way with Microsoft Ajax Library. I looked through the code, and it looks like the AJAX library does inject some js code, but upon submitting the DoPostback function is called just as normal. I don't have the code infront of me, and I'll probably look at it again in a day. But anyway I think I'll do as you say, and study the basics so I could understand the js code, and perhaps write my own code instead of using MS as clearly less efficient for me. Thanks for all the tips, and sorry about how this message may look -it's from a cellphone.

OK - I would suggest you look at some MS samples and trace through those to see how the AJAX library hooks into the postback mechanism. I still believe that your core issue tho is that you have onclick instead of OnClick. they are not the same thing.

Hi there coders,
Im developing a YouTube like website in asp.net and ive run in into a major huddle. The prototype worked great and used a Windows media player control and a generic handler to play videos from an SQL database. However the client insisted that i use a flash FLV video player instead.
So I replaced wm player with a flash flv player, and wmv videos with flv videos and finally changed the mime type in the handler to "video/x-flv".
But the videos are not playing. Any suggestions?

Fix your code. Not sure what else to say, based on this. You've not given us much to go on. I would, in your shoes, put one of these videos in a folder, create a htm file that embeds the player, and get that working 100%, then I'd build on that until I got to the point of working out what step is not working properly, so I could better define what the problem is.

Hi All,
I need some help understanding HTTP Modules a lot better.
At the moment I understand creating the Init and Dispose functions and
making the Init function include an event handler.
Its only in the Event handler that I am clueless as to the logic
of getting something to work for you. I am aware of the events available at ones disposal. However can someone explain what goes on in the event handler. I have looked at existing examples of what handlers might be used for but am clueless about the logic.
Thanks very much
public class Module:IHttpModule
{
public void Dispose()
{
}
public void Init(HttpApplication context)
{
app.BeginRequest += new EventHandler(OnBeginRequest);
}
// event handlers
public void OnBeginRequese(object o, EventArgs ea)
{
//Here is what I have no idea what to do.
}

Thank you

Any one can tell me tht how to disply img in gridview frm sqltable.
|

Yes, by writing code. Why is it you people say 'urgent', but you're too lazy to google ?
If the image is in the DB, then you need to write a page that takes an image id on the URL, and returns the image data, then this can be the url for an img tag.
