I have grid with 4 columns n scrollbar
while scrolling i want to fix first 2 columns.

I'm not sure you can do that with a gridview, because to do it at all, you need to create a fixed size DIV with scrollbars for the other columns. You may need a repeater for that level of control.

Hi Everybody,
I'm using VS.Net 2005.In my page i've a gridview,I'm binding some data to to gridview, in this grid i've a invisible column.on mouse click on that row i want to open a new window with showing the value of invisible column.
I don't to pass the value with the query string and don't want to use session variables.
Thanks in advance.

Best option was, store the GridRow value to a session variable and display it in next page. But you do not want session to use. Why ?
Then you can read those invisible column directly from you datasource and display it into Grid.

Because that coluumn sometime contains morethan 4k data

Confused with a cookie and session?
Sessions don't have size limit.

Then i think you can acess from database directly

Size of session data depends on Memory of server. This can cause of performa nce if the size of data is too heavy and number of users is very large,. but for 4k I don't think so.
Now its depends on you !!!

If the row is data bound, the typical way to do this, is to pass an id on the URL and have the popup request the data again from the database.

I don't want to hit the database again

Then your options are limited to prayer. You either hit the DB, pass it on the URL, or shove it in the session. What else is there ?

I have implimented the login controls on my ASP.NET site but I am having an issue. I have setup roles to block users from accessing a page in the Secure_Pages folder.
If you are not logged in and in the correct role, the site redirects to default.aspx. The problem is that even if you login with the correct credentials it keeps on redirecting you to the login page. Can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong??
Thank you!

I have found the problem.
I have created 3 rules for the Secure_Pages folder, ALL(Deny) - ADMINISTRATORS(Allow) and INTERNET_USERS(Allow)
I moved the ALL rule to the bottom and everything works fine now.
Thank you!!

Your code is broken. Hard to say much else, based on this.

It seemes there are some problems on your implementation logic. As Brij suggest, it would be better if you put those line of code that would be helpful for us to answer.

Most people lock records when one person starts to edit, there's no simple solution to marking records so that two people can easily edit them at the same time.

Hey all,
I'm trying to incorporate the AutoSuggestMenu on autosuggestmenu.com and I keep getting random javascript errors. Mainly 'XUtils' is undefined. Here's the code. Thanks for your help
<%@ Register TagPrefix="Custom" Namespace="ENTech.WebControls" Assembly="AutoSuggestMenu" %>
...
<custom:autosuggestmenu runat="server" id="regAutoSuggest" targetcontrolid="txtSearchReg" usepagemethods="false" usepaging="false" ongetsuggestions="getRegSuggest" resourcesdir="~/asm_includes/" xmlns:custom="#unknown">
autosuggestmenu.dll is in bin directory..
asm_includes directory is in the root of my project.
Code behind:
public static List<autosuggestmenuitem> getRegSuggest(string keyword, bool usePaging, int pageIndex, int pageSize)
{
List<autosuggestmenuitem> menuItems = new List<autosuggestmenuitem>;
...
return menuItems;

Do they not have a forum ? Seems to me they will have more people who have used their library than CP will.

If you are using Cassini (Visual Studio's built in web server) then you will be running your web appliation in your account. When in IIS it will be running in the account you've assigned to it (defaults to something like IUSR_[machine-name]) which will not have permission to write to the file system, unless you explicitly grant permission.

Hi all. I have wrestled with this for a week now.
I have a website in .net 2.0, created with VWD Express, and I use VB in my code. The site is designed to sell size based products. I have a reasonable amount of experience with VBA in Access databases, but I'm struggling to get to grips with this new way of thinking when working with online applications. Please excuse my ignorance with terminology etc.
In Access, I was able to use a combobox to hold a recordset. For example, my combox could hold this info:
OptionName | OptionPrice | PriceMethod
------------------------------------------------
Pink £10.00 1
Brown £12.00 1
White £5.00 2
Red £9.00 3
In access, the CB would be populated with all the above detail on the PageLoad event with all the options for a particular product.
Usually, in Access, I could quickly reference the 2nd and 3rd column values in code and make calcualtions on them.
This would enable me to quickly re-price an option if the CB value is changed without going back to the database. This makes so much more sense than waiting for a round trip to the DB, and means that price calculations are instant.
How can I recreate this in asp.net?
I have investigated some custom controls which mimic ComboBoxes, but I'm struggling to get them to work properly, and what I've seen so far don't really seem that stable.
I have questioned whether it's possible to send the Recordset to a hidden field or viewstate, but having scanned lots of newsgroups I can't find any examples of similar situations, so I'm reluctant to waste days investigating. I'm also unsure on how to reference the table values in code, since I can't find any documentation.
I thought about using a multi array variable, but again, this seems a little crude and long-winded given the simple task I need to acheive.
Worst case, is that I'll probably have to use Ajax to make a trip to the DB. But I simply can't believe that Microsoft would replace the CB with that feeble Drop Down List. Surely there's a simple way???
Any inspiration would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You can use a gridview to show columnar data. A drop down can show them only as a single string. You can hide data against that tho, a drop down has a data field to go with the field that is shown.

Your core issue is that you don't understand what's going on here. ASP.NET creates websites. So, Microsoft is not at liberty to decide what goes on, they are creating a framework which generates HTML and CSS. Your options are indeed AJAX, or simply using javascript to grab the values needed from the box when a selection changes, and showing the result. That's how web developement works. Microsoft did not invent HTML, CSS or AJAX, they merely provide libraries to help people use them.

Hi Gino,
Grid view would be better option (Graus is right on that account)
But if you are using DropDownList then after data bind ,
You have to loop through all the ListItem
and add attribute like "optionPrice" and "PriceMethod"
to each list item
As example in the below code snippet
ListItem Li=ddlAll.Items[itemno];
Li.Attributes.Add("optionPrice",dt[itemno]["optionPrice"])
