After several searches, I have not been able to come up with a viable solution to this problem.
I have an application that I am working on in ASP.NET 1.1. Within the same website, there is an ASP.NET 2.0 application, but they need to access the same session variables for seamless operation.
I need a solution that is two fold, 1) to handle ASP 1.1 and ASP 2.0 session variables, and 2) Allow these session variables to act modularly as we upgrade our application to newer framework, ultimately 3.5.
Thanks in advance for any help!

The direction I am heading is to write a web service to handle the session variables. Is that what you are referring to? Or are you referring to a Windows service?
Thanks again in advance!

Even when using this configuration, when the ASP.NET 2.0 Application is accessed, a new Session begins, it doesn't use the same Session.

Well that's quite obvious. You will of course need to do some work, it isn't just point and click.

I have an ASP.NET web service deployed on //service/webservice and I want my ASP.NET web application (app1) on the //web1 to access the web service with certificate authentication. I keep getting System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden exception. The following is my setup:
On certificate export;
I exported a server certificate issued to //service from LocalMachine store and saved it as service.cer.
I also exported a client certificate issued to //web1 from LocalMachine store and saved it as web1.cer
Setup on //service/webservice:
- On Directory Security, unchecked Anonymous Access and all Authentication Access (Integrated Windows Access, Digest Authentication and Basic Authentication).
- On Secure communications, checked Required secure channel(SSL), Require 128-bit encyption, Require client certificate, and Enable client certificate mapping. I then mapped web1.cer to an AD account MyDomain/user which has access right to //service/webservice
- For //service/webservice/WebService.asmx, set <authentication mode="Windows" /> on web.config
Setup on //web1/app1:
- Set <authentication mode="Windows" /> and <identity impersonate="true" /> on web.config
- In VS2008, I added the web reference to //service/webservice/WebService.asmx and named it WService
- In //web1/app1/default.aspx.cs, I had this:
using System.Net;
using System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates;
WService.WebService ws = new WService.WebService();
ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback = delegate(Object sender1, X509Certificate cert, X509Chain chain, System.Net.Security.SslPolicyErrors errors) { return true; };
X509Certificate x509 = X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile(@"C:\Certificates\web1.cer");
ws.ClientCertificates.Add(x509);
ws.DoSomething();
- I ran WinHttpCertCfg.exe to grant access to both certificates in LocalMachine for ASPNET account
I went to https://service/webservice/WebService.asmx and was prompted to provide a client certificate and after that I was through. But if I went to https://web1/app1/default.aspx (which would call the web service) and I would get the HTTP status 403 exception.
If I change //web1/app1/default.aspx.cs to use login credential (MyDomain/user) and change setting on //service/webservice to these: unchecked Require client certificate, checked Digested Authentication, it works.
What did I miss? I would assume the problem is because //web1/app1/default.aspx.cs failed to transmit the certificate across. If that's the problem, how do I do that? I built both the asmx and aspx on VS 2008 and ASP.NET 3.5. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,
I have a guestbook made, using asp.net membership, so when a user posts a new comment, it shows their username etc.
But i would like to know how i could add that onto users profiles.
So for example, as profile comments, or profile guestbook.
I already have all the db, and tables set up.
All i would like to know is how to make it so each users profile has a guestbook section, and if i should make the db columns relative to Membership, or Profiles, if you get what i mean.
Hep would be appreciated
-Thanks

Hi, im new to code project, and was looking at a few interesting articles, so im sure to find help here =D
Ok so, my simple question is...
How do i go about adding profile avatars to my site?
I currently use asp providers, and would like to have an upload avatar section on my profiles.
So for example, in the edit profile page, i would add a file upload and when they upload an img, it would be saved in either a db, or file and it will be shown on their profile.
Could anyone tell me, or link me to an article that explains this?
Thanks

Hi
I have certain images stored in sql DB. Now, i wanted to show these images under matrix view on my web page.
EX: I have 15 images which i wanted to display them under matrix (4 X 4)to the user.
Each image in each cell. User, when clicks on this image should then
have this
"image" and
"corresponding text information" displayed in a box on the page.
There is a separate column for image text information available under the same table.
Any pointers on this is highly appreciated.
ThanksQ

I didn't get this point.If you just want ot show the images in the 4X4 matrix.Then use the same size table,and put the images in each cell.
Whetheryou want to click event on image itself?
Cheers!!

Hello All,
I’ve got a question in regards to downloading a file from a secured website (https and it also requires you to be logged into the third party’s system before you can click the link which will then prompt you to download the file).
I’ve looked up a few things online such as System.Net.WebClient.DownloadFile method that takes the URL and the file name…but when I tried to test this using a console app, nothing happens. I was assuming the implementation of the DownloadFile will take care of creating a request and all that. But unfortunately it just sit there and the destination folder that I provided as one of the parameters remains empty. Well I think I understand that the URL I provided for instance which is http://toolbar.google.com/T5/intl/en/install.html does not starts the download right away, so something’s gotta happen that will trigger the download. Do I have to write custom even or something?
See in my case we are trying to automate a manual process that requires someone log in to the site and physically download the file.
Now chances are we would like to download the file to the same server where the .Net code (console app will be deployed).
On the third party’s website where we are downloading the file from, there’s no option to store your credentials so that we can avoid being prompted for login again. So I guess I’m trying to figure out whats the best approach here to encounter this scenario?
Thanks
Tina

Would someone please look at this message, and tell me what I am doing wrong? I would really appreciate it.

I guess I did not "Google the heck out of it" enough. I finally found a solution at:
http://forums.asp.net/p/973430/1230602.aspx[^]
I changed the Javascript code:
...
else
{
clearTimeout(timer)
window.location.replace("refresh.aspx")
}
I then added a refresh.aspx page with the following code-behind:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
namespace WebManager
{
public partial class WebForm1 : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Redirect("~/Default.aspx");
}
}
}
There may have been a more elegant way to do it, but that is what I came up with, and it seems to work.

You're asking a question where the answer is no, and you're asking it again. The server cannot contact the client. The client can call the server via AJAX, and then be told it should refresh, but the server cannot tell the client what to do.

Thanks for replying so quickly.
No Christian, I got that point a long time ago.
I was trying to point to my last post in the thread regarding the javascript the other fellow sent me. I was trying to avoid cluttering up the forum by reposting the content in a new message.

I did after your original reply. Sorry, I was stuck and getting frustrated. I messed up the link and it did not point to what I intended for it to (I did not click on PermaLink). I kept Googling, and I finally found a solution that worked (as I indicated in the edited post above).
I was trying really hard to not be the usual kind of Dork that posted questions on here. Sorry to have wasted your time. I won't ask any further questions on here.

I'll try to re-summarize my question here:
My Web form has several controls on it (mostly buttons and a couple of text boxes). If I just bring the page up and don't touch it, it refreshes fine. If I click on one of the buttons (which incidentally causes some of the text in the text boxes to change due to the code-behind logic), when the refresh times out, I get the "To display the webpage again, Internet Explorer needs to resend the information you've previously submitted." message with the "Retry" and "Cancel" buttons. I get a similar message with Firefox.
I read somewhere that if I added, method="get" to the Form section of the web page, it would cure this problem, but (of course?) when I add that, none of the controls on the page work right when you click on them.
I thought perhaps it had to do with the fact that I was changing the text in TextBox controls, so I changed the TextBoxes to Labels (since I am only displaying information in them, and never accepting input from them). No difference.
I am trying to be more intelligent than many of the questions that I have seen here lately. I have Googled the heck out of it, and so far have not come up with anything helpful. I value your experience and input, and would appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

You need to perform a Redirect after a user clicks a button or changes a piece of text. That will get rid of the Internet Explorer needs to resend info warning.
That way if the user hits the back button they are landing on a GET result instead of the result of a POST operation.
Example:
1 User first visits page as a GET request
2 User makes an edit or clicks a button which causes a POST
3 User is now looking at the results of the POST
4 User navigates to another page
5 User clicks the BACK button which should land them on step 3 (results of a POST)
in order to display the results of a POST the web browser has to resubmit the data from step 2 which is what causes the IE warning
To fix that you need to insert a GET request between step 3 & 4 (ie perform a Redirect in the codebehind)

Yeah, that's sort of what I ended up doing. See my modified original post up above.

There's at least one article on this site.
Why do people insist on asking questions here that can't possibly be adequately answered in a forum reply ?
