Try in Safe Mode and check the problem inside XP.

|
|
|

You're making the assumption that he can even get to the prompt to start in safe mode. Usually, with a problem like this, you don't get that far.

who knows assembly?!!
I want to implement some command of dos such as shutdown,Dir copycon with assembley!!
who knows how can i do this?!!
any help would be useful
thanks

Why would you want to do that?
If you want to experiment with some assembly, the easier way is to create an application using a high-level language (say C) and implement one function (or part of a function) with assembly,
e.g. using the asm keyword you can embed assembly code right in C code.
One potentially useful exercise would be to get the CPU capabilities exposed by the CPUID instruction.

Tricky, you could try this:
Your will have to load a filter driver on your device and at one of the start IRPs such as IRP_MJ_STARTDEVICE block the IRP and wait for the app to supply the uname pwd. The app would do this via a dedicated device object created by the filter driver.
On a sucessfull entry the filter completes the IPR as success. On fail it completes it as failure and the system will unload the device stack.
It is possible that the OS wil timeout the IRP though, inwhich case you could try another, or wait for the device to start and then block all read/write/URB/IOCTL IRPs untill you get a valid uname-pwd. If you dont you could call an invalidate bus relations and fail the start device thereafter.

Anti Virus is Norton it is not showing any problem.
Thanks in advance.

using Symantec AntiVirus

Norton and Symantec are same na.

If there was no reason to hang, then it wouldn't.
XP has an aversion to VB "development. That's why Microsoft released Vista - it's much more tolerant of VB.

My guess is that you have a program installed that runs some kind of check (probably on the interwebs) a while after the computer is started. If this is badly programmed you might get a lockup.
If this is the case, one solution is to uninstall all unnecessary programs one by one until the problem disappears.
Processexplorer and Autoruns are two great programs from Sysinternals that might be of great use when you're troubleshooting this kind of problems.

I'm trying to get a smart card reader to work on terminal server 2000 but it doesn't seem to find it.
I installed the drivers.
checked if the needed dll's are there and they are
The services are running.
Info:
Windows 2000 terminal server service pack 4
Smartcard reader = USB
I log on to the server using RDP wich has the option set to transfer smart card readers to the server.
Anyone tried this before or knows if it's even possible?
I'v been searching the internet for anything but not finding much and what I do find just tells me that it should work.

I would recommend downloading WinObj by Mark Russinovich[^] and check if the USB device has the proper security permissions and is in the Global namespace[^]. There have been several USB device vendors that have failed to support Terminal server due to implementation faults.

Hi everyone
Is it possible to use of digital camera like a web cam or no?
|
|
|
|
|
Hi,
Some high-end camera's have a command interface, so you can tell them to take a picture.
Most digital camera's don't have this, they just export the pictures taken manually.
|
|
|
|
|
Thanks for your help.

As Luc said, you can't interface to them directly as a web camera. However most cameras have composite out, in which you could use a USB composite input device, which you can interface to as a web camera. I have this[^] device, sometimes I use it with my digital camera when I'm going to stage pictures, it works very good.

I am seriously considering getting one of these (with the accompanying wireless networking add-on) and putting in a WD Green 1tb drive in it.
How do you rip your movies? To ISO? Mpg? Other?
Do you do any post-processing? I've heard you can post-process and get the file size down by as much as 50% and even end up with a *better* looking video (takes a number of hours to do this *per movie*, though).
How do you have yours configured? I have over 300 dvd's (I know I can't fit them all onto a single 1tb drive), and I'll probably be able to fit a number of them onto the drive. How do you have yours organized? My wife wants to know if we can set up folders, like "A-E", "F-J", etc., so it makes it easier to find a movie.
Anything you can tell me about the interface would be nice.

I use DVDShrink[^] and reauthor for just the main film (not obthered about extras), files are in a simple tree e.g.:
Films
----->Action
----->Comedy
etc.
DVDShrink can reduce size as well but loses quality, not something I use. Transcoding would provide better compression but would need optimised to avoid qualtiy reduction.
The basic system does a file browse but there are add ons that create HTML files to provide a jukebox system with IMDB lookup, just starting to look at it myself.
One of the most popular is YAMJ (Yet Another Movie Jukebox) which I believe you run on your PC accessing the PCH as a network drive then on the PCH browse the resulting
index.htm file.
The forums are here[^].
Have fun!
Elaine.

If you don't want to loose the quality, you can get rid of all the bonus stuff on DVD, and keep the movie only (AFAIR DvdShrink does that also).
As for the ISO, since most of the jukeboxes like popcorn, are based on Linux, keeping the stuff in ISO image is not a problem, it can perfectly mount it on the fly and play it, at least 3 or 4 models I've tested do (I'm pretty sure popcorn does also, even if it isn't OTB, there will be a patch in the community ).
There is a great encoder out there, Canopus Procoder, it can produce great results, but keep in mind that re-encoding is actually very time-consuming, and the tool is commercial.
You also check the H.264 format, it is pretty slow to encode, pretty expensive to decode (it terms of processor load), but has a great image quality (if encoded properly )

Lev

Any conversion between formats can only reduce the fidelity of the recording vs the lossless original in the studio vaults. At best you can reduce it to minimal levels but you can't magic data back into existence.
