I wouldn't worry to much about a trial version. It's meant to be spread.
But it doesn't matter very much as I don't have it anymore.

You still don't control the distribution rights to the software, no matter what Microsoft's intentions for it may be.

Hi
Can I use Citrix Presentation Server on WINSERVER2003 (configured as only an Application Server)?
I have previously set up my WINSERVER2003 as an Terminal Server and an Application Server. Citrix worked fine, so it propably is the <> Terminal Server configuration that is causing the problem.
Thanking you in advance

What Problem are you having? Is this your only citrix Server? you will need a MS Server to be setup as your Terminal Server Licensing Server and on the MS server that you will install Citrix on, you will need to enable Terminal Server Services.

Hi all,
Are there any windows commands that are equivalent to the openssl s_client command? Specifically I'm looking for one with a -showcert switch, e.g.
:>openssl s_client -connect somedomain.com:443 -showcerts
The environment that needs to use this command is Windows Server 2003. It's a production server and our security policy disallows us from installing any openssl lib's (which I feel is a little overkill but can do nothing about).
Any help appreciated.

xcopy - how do I suppress "specify a file name or directory name on the target"?
I tried the /q switch didn't stop it from asking...
xcopy /E /q Util\Command\remote\outbox\BrowseDirectoryCmdTestFiles Util\Command\remote\outbox\01212008
Thanks

Add a *.* to the end of the source and destination paths. Never just assume them...
xcopy /E /q Util\Command\remote\outbox\BrowseDirectoryCmdTestFiles\*.* Util\Command\remote\outbox\01212008\*.*

Thanks, took your advice and copy files only. (i.e. directories created apriori)

as a coder at my work, most of the stuff pushed from Corporate IT has no bearing on my job and often just slows development and progress for me - majority of the office is number crunchers with no OS or low-level computer skills.
Recently, my IT department pushed some software onto my machine. I only saw the evidence of this as a folder with some executables and data files was created on the All User's desktop. I quickly disconnected from the LAN and went to Wi-Fi mode.
Is there a way for me to search my system to see what might have been installed as a background app?
1) I did a search for *.* on c:\Program Files
2) I opened the Task Manager (but just quick glance) - I could use HiJack This i guess
3) opened regedit - and that's where I drafted this question....
Thanks,
John John

Autoruns[^] by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell is a great tool for viewing almost everything. The "start-by-demand" drivers and applications will of course not be listed.
If you have Administrative rights on your machine you may want to enable Windows Installer logging[^] since most installers utilize this service. Also keep in mind that some changes such as driver installation and account/policy change could have been written into the Event Logs[^].

Thanks for the info and what/where to look.
Today I am confounded by this "Trusted Desktop" and the app I used to run (and which read/wrote remote files from within its processing space) - it no longer works as before and get errors similar to missing files or permission problems.
Oy!

Sounds like your account permissions and rights on the local machine have been reduced. It is quite common for developers to be affected by domain restrictions. Hopefully your not developing applications which utilize global hooks or remote threads. System administrators have been known to completely shutdown development teams by simply applying new policies.
Good Luck,

The sound works everyplace else. Even audio CDs work when played in the same drive. It's on a Windows XP machine using Media Player 11. I reinstalled WMP but that had no effect. The DVDs were store-bought movies.
Any clues?
Thanks.

Hi.
I think WMP isn't support DVDs play format.
You can download some doceder to support it.
You can install the MPC(Media Player Classic),and play the DVDs using MPC.
May be OK.

Sure it does. I use it exclusively to watch DVDs. This is the first computer that it has failed to work on.

This might be a plausible solution if both the audio and video were missing.

A fresh install of windows will not play dvd's in wmp, as its missing the MPEG2 video decoder and the Dolby Digital and DTS audio decoders.
A installation that came with a pc might though.
If its not a recent rebuild/reinstall of windows, then it sounds like the Dolby Digital or DTS decoder has been broken. AudioCD's and normal windows sounds aren't in the same format.
This could have been broken by a recent install of something else (cd/dvd burning, movie/video editor etc)
You could try installing FFDSHOW, by default I think the installation will make windows try that first, which should sort the problem.

Lockout happens when someone has tried to log in with the wrong password more times than allowed.
This doesn't happen to everyone unless there is something seriously wrong in the system.
I would run a complete viruscheck immediately on the whole system.

I guess most people make the decision based on total and file fragmentation percentages. Your fragmentation is very low, and in my opinion would not require defragmentation.

I would recommend you to use Smart Defrag[^]. It automatically runs in the background and defragments drive. It uses low system resources and is very effective.
