You might have to go old school and get it out of the response.form collection. Or you could set the onkeyup of the textbox to call some script which will write the contents of the textbox into a server hidden control. That you can get from the viewstate.

How can I detect a continous mouse down state? I need to auto-increment a numeric text field as long as the mouse is held down over an up botton and decrement for a down bottom. As soon as the mouse is up, the process stops. I believe I probably need to two frames, when the mouse is pressed, the head moves to the second frame which detects whether the mouse is down. If it is, increment a numeric variable, display the variable, then send the head back to the first frame that repeats the process of the second frame. I can increment the numeric variable and display it but I am not sure how to detect a continous mouse state.

try setting a javascript timer. The timer would start on mousedown and then fire a function to see if the mouse is till down and increment your value.

how to convert awebsite from two tier archtecture to three tier archtecture
|
|
|
|
|
Hi,
which two tiers do you have? What is your target architectute (Presentation layer, Logic layer, DataAccess Layer)?
I think you have to refactor. There are some hints about this (e.g. books from Martin Fowler) but no general task list like 1. do this, 2. do that ... N. Now you have a three tier application.

I have databound controls, from which I'd like to retrieve the value selected by the user.
System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropdownList
System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridView
cmdCreateNewTaskQuery.Parameters.AddWithValue("@sub_category", lstTaskSubCategory.SelectedValue.ToString());
cmdCreateNewTaskQuery.Parameters.AddWithValue("@priority", lstPriority.SelectedValue.ToString());
cmdCreateNewTaskQuery.Parameters.AddWithValue("@product", "1");
I also tried converting the values to (Int64) but it is not possible to explicitly convert strings.
(Int64) lstTaskSubCategory.SelectedValue.ToString
.NET Framework 2.0
Any ideas?

Hi,
do get an int from a string you have to use int.Parse(). (Better you int.TryParse because of the performance). Did you put int-values in the DropDownLists? Then just try to add with mylist.SelectedValue... (if you debug your code, you can watch the type of the selectedValue, this let you know if the type is correct).

Do you mean something like this?
TextBox1.Text = GridView1.SelectedValue.ToString();
string mystring = GridView1.SelectedValue.ToString();
Int32 myint = mystring..?

I meant sth like this
int myInt = int.Parse(GridView1.SelectedValue.ToString());
If your SelectedValue is already a string, then you don't need the conversion.

Hello peeps
I have a problem setting my tooltip spacing on my page, i am using this to get the spacing.
function ShowDivBox(sendingTD, innerMessage)
{
newdiv = document.createElement('div');
newdiv.style.position = "absolute";
newdiv.style.top = 273 + sendingTD.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.offsetTop + 20;
newdiv.style.left = sendingTD.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.offsetLeft + 25;
newdiv.style.zIndex = "5000";
newdiv.style.paddingLeft = "10px";
newdiv.style.paddingTop = "10px";
newdiv.innerHTML = innerMessage;
newdiv.id = "divAddWord";
sendingTD.appendChild(newdiv);
}
function RemoveAddWord(sendingTD)
{
if (newdiv)
{
var id = newdiv.id;
var oldDiv = document.getElementById(id);
if (oldDiv)
sendingTD.removeChild(oldDiv);
}
}
but the problem is when i scroll down in the grid view the grid height makes the tooltip display out of site on the bottom of the page, then more i scroll down on the scroll bar the further down it goes is there anyone who could help me with the correct syntax to subtract the scroll height of my code?

Hi,
How to call a C# function from javascript apart from add attribute.
If we can do it with AJAX,callback or Web services means, then i need it in detail about how to implement it
|
|
|
|
|
AFAIK you can call only the Static server side methods from your JavaScript using AJAX. For this you need to set the property EnablePageMethods="true" in your <scriptmanager>.
Also the server side function should contain the attribute [WebMethod]

Hi friends,
In my application i want to create a user control, which will display in client side where a user can drag the items in the control. Clearly it means in my control i need text box,radio button etc.In client side one need to drag the control in their pages just like we drag items from toolbox to the design page , I need it to be possible in run time. A user can able to drag and drop controls in the page as they wish. Also the user can place the control in a particular position as they wish. Can any one help me to solve this problem.Its urgent.

I am not able to get clue about, which kind of application you are working on. If you are developing Window Forms application then you can use SharpDevelop Form Designer[^] for this purpose, Alternatively if you are working on ASP.NET then you have to try some commercial tool kits
