Since this is ASP related problem, I believe that you would get much better help in ASP.NET forum[^]

Good Day All
i have a table that carries a Field that has data like this
10101010101010
Now the Function that adds this 1's and 0's is working like this. If its selected insert "1" else "0", So if i can interpret the above if will be
1 3 5 7 9 11 13
the only thing that am interested in is "1's", if i can display their Position in a SQL Query i will be happy
i want to take these Values from a SQl table and Bind them to a Gridview. Remember the Number of Zeor's can increase , but the Limit is 63 including the "1's" and "0's".
Thank you

If possible, I think you should change the structure and use a child table to represent those values. It would be then far easier to handle the data.
However, if you want to have all 63 possible values in columns where the correspinding bit is on, you could use something like:
select convert(int, substring(data.field, 1, 1)) * 1,
convert(int, substring(data.field, 2, 1)) * 2,
convert(int, substring(data.field, 3, 1)) * 3,
convert(int, substring(data.field, 4, 1)) * 4,
convert(int, substring(data.field, 5, 1)) * 5,
convert(int, substring(data.field, 6, 1)) * 6,
convert(int, substring(data.field, 7, 1)) * 7,
convert(int, substring(data.field, 8, 1)) * 8
...
from (select convert(varchar(63), 10101010101010)
+ replicate('0', 63-len(convert(varchar(63), 10101010101010))) as field
) data

hi Mika
Thank you for your response, i have came with the Following and it seems to work.
declare @S as nvarchar(63)
set @S = '10101010101010'
declare @NS as nvarchar(128)
set @NS=''
declare @Len as int
SET @Len = LEN(@S)
declare @Counter as int
SET @Counter = 1
WHILE @Counter < = @Len
BEGIN
if (SUBSTRING(@S,@Counter,1)='1')
set @NS = @NS + ' ' + convert(nvarchar,@Counter)
SET @Counter = @Counter + 1
END
select @NS
What do you think about it
Thank you

That should be okay. The idea is the same as in the statement I posted and if you can use T-SQL instead of plain SQL, using a loop is easier.

Dear all,
I am accessing a database which is running on an SQL Server 2008 machine via SQL Server Management studio 2008 from a remote machine. I am using SQL authentication and I am able to do all the query and database management work.
However when I try to make use debugging I get an error stating unknown username or bad password. I did not manage to find any solution for this error. Have you ever encountered such a thing?
Any potential solutions will be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks

Since you know what you're looking for, why don't you google with those keywords that are interesting to you.
It's impossible to give you similarities or differences between three different databases. For example Oracle SQL reference is ~1500 pages and I think that over 50% differs from SQL Server (in one way or another).

I've recently arrived at a firm that has well over 30 databases for various applications. The downside is that there has been no documentation on any of the systems. I've tried to encourage the DBAs and developers to proactively document the purpose of tables, stored procs,etc.. but this has been slow and coming. I've been looking at a few tools from RedGAte, but I'm not sure what else is available. Is there a good process or set of tools that can be used to document a database along with the means to inventory the details for a CMDB?
Thanks.

I believe this situation is quite familiar to many (most?) of us The only good process I know is exactly what you mentioned, do it proactively when everything is clear in mind. Doing the documentation later is always somewhat gathering the pieces.
About the tools, I think RedGate makes good products, but also this: http://www.dbdesc.com/[^] could be worth to look at.
There are few areas these tools don't cover so if you use a tool to generate the documentation, I would still try to manually include for example:
- E/R diagrams per subsystem (especially in larger dtabases)
- if a table/view has enumerated values etc. in a column, what do they mean
- same for procedures
- privilege/role maps and so on
Hope this helps,
Mika

hi everyone , im using sqlite and i have a problem where, well i use a lot of delegates to make updates or inserts in the database and sometimes they collide and the database locks itself when writing is being done
i managed to "fix" this by using a lot of labels so everytime i get the exception "database is locked" i thread.currentThread.sleep, for 3 seconds and then my label sends it to the beginning of the try statement, kinda like this
retry:
try
{
}
catch
{
System.thread.currentThread.sleep(3000);
goto retry;
}
so with this i got it to work "kind of " simultanoulsy but i went here http://www.sqlite.org/faq.html[^]
and i see this sqlite3_busy_handler and SQLITE_BUSY stuff, i have read it like 100 times and still i dont have a clue how to use it or how to get it or anything about it, anyone of you can point me in the right direction?? appreciate the help
Im using c sharp application by the way

I think you could be able to get rid of the problem by changing the design a bit. For example if you would use a queue where db operation requests are put, you would never have collision if only one process reads the queue (kinda throttling).
However as a quick info, did you notice this: http://wangel.net/martin/codes/sqlite3.html[^]
|
|
|
|
|
hey man thanks , could you elaborate on this queue idea? that sounds like it could help
|
|
|
|
|
Did yo notice the post from Ennis. Compiling the SQLite with thread safety could solve your problem.
Anyhow, the queue idea is simply to use Queue..::.Synchronized Method[^]. Create a queue, put the statements from the delegates to it and dequeue at the other end using one worker thread. It was just a quick idea if you have to synchronize the operations manually. Another (easier?) way could be using lock[^].

Good thing the db connection will never go down. Looks like you have significant problems in your code and the least of which is SQL Lite locking. Item 6 in your link seems to give you your answer, however.
Need custom software developed? I do C# development and consulting all over the United States.
If you don't ask questions the answers won't stand in your way.
Doing a job is like selecting a mule, you can't choose just the front half xor the back half so when you ask me to do a job don't expect me to do it half-assed.
