How are you calling your asp pages? Asp and asp.net run on different engines. you can not directly interact between them. You can redirect calls from one to another. If you show us how you doing it, it will give us some clue as to what you trying to do.
I have asp + asp.net running side by side. I interact between them, when I move from one to the other, I save my session state to db then call
Request.Redirect("somepage.aspx?someparameter) (I call both somepage.asp and somepage.aspx the same way)
then on the other side I load my session state read what I need to get and continue doing what I need to do.

on your xp desktop, try the following:
1. Disable IE show friendly error messages from the advanced page
2. Open IE and type the following http:\\localhost\
this should redirect you to http://localhost/localstart.asp. If you see the page ok, then asp is running on your xp, if not what error message do you see. that should give you some clue.
If you see http:\\localhost ok, then make sure your asp program is installed properly in your xp machine. make sure any COM objects it uses are configured and registered properly.

I have an ASP Login control contained in a UpdatePanel. What I need to do is call a javascript function when the Login control's onauthenticate event is fired. I tried adding the following to the Login control definition:
onauthenticate="authenticate(this, e)"
The problem is that when I try to run the application I receive an error that argument e is undefined in the current context. How can I do this?
Thanks,
Steve

Define 'e'.

I was not quite sure what you were suggesting when you replied for me to define e. I think that my initial question was not worded correctly. I just wanted to know if anyone know what the parameter for the ASP Login control onauthenticate="authenticate(this, ?)" would be if authenticate was a javascript function? I know that code behind event args are of type AuthenticateEventArgs but how would this be indicated in the javascript Login control onauthenticate definition?
Thanks,
Steve

I have created a web service, and a coworker has created an installation package for it using InstallShield.
I have just realized that I forgot to change the Web.config file to set debug to false before he made the installation package. It is currently set to
compilation defaultLanguage="c#" debug="true"/
My question is, if I manually edit the Web.config file for this web service to set it to the following value after it has already been deployed, will it still execute with all the debugging overhead and resources?
compilation defaultLanguage="c#" debug="false"/
Do I have to bother my coworker to put another build together after I change the Web.config file?
Thanks for your time.

No, the point of config files is that you can deploy an exe and change things about it, by just changing the config file. The exe reads the config files.

I guess you need to tell us which line fails and show us the ASPX as well.

hello,
I have a department and an employee table. I populated a radio button list with all the department codes.
By default a Gridview will display all employee record. And, when I will select one department code on the radio button list, the GridView will only display employee record(s) with the same department code(s).
This is working fine with the ff:
protected void radioButtonList1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
SqlDataSource2.SelectParameters.Add("deptCode", radioButtonList1.SelectedValue);
SqlDataSource2.SelectCommand = "SELECT [iD], [firstName], [lastName], [dateOfBirth], [deptCode][position] FROM [F201] WHERE ([deptCode] = @deptCode)";
}
But, I think that, when there will be to many employee records, this will slow the loading. Is there any other way to display these record to a Gridview without re-querying to the table?
I am new to Asp.Net, any suggestion will be very much appreciated.

How many is too many?
Is your Gridview paginated? that could help in loading time. You could write sql stored procedure to help with the database performance too.
Sath Garcia wrote: display these record to a Gridview without re-querying to the table?
The only way is to load all the records and write javascript code to manupliate your gridview. But don't think this is going to be easy code.

Thanks man,
Yes the gridview is paged. I set it to 20. Anyway, I guess I am gonna be sticking to what i did for the main time, besides, it is not really that "many" records. I was just looking for any other alternatives to further speed up the apps
I guess I'll start digging for javascripts too
thanks again.
