Thanks Mr. Paul. But, I had tried and solved the problem. Actually, I use proxy server to connect to the internet. I also didnt check the "bypass proxy for local server" option. This had confused the access to the IIS in the PC. Noe its working finr and all are alright.
Another help... do you have any IDE for ASP. Editing using the notepad seems not ok for me....

Well Visual Studio.NET (which you can buy from CodeProject for a very good price) is good and you of course get a lot more with it.
Otherwise you can try Dreamweaver, Homesite or 1stPage2000 (1stPage2000 is free, the others are not.)

LOL that one had me flumoxed for ages when I first started ASP as well, damned annoying.

Hello,
When I am executing my ASP page, I sometimes get the following error:
Problem Report
There was a communication problem.
Message ID
TCP_ERROR
Problem Description
The system was unable to communicate with the server.
Possible Problem Cause
The Web server may be down.
The Web server may be too busy.
The Web server may be experiencing other problems, preventing it from
responding to clients.
The communication path may be experiencing problems.
Possible Solution
Try connecting to this server later.
How to trap this error from the ASP page?
Thanks

I'm using...
<a onclick="fn1"><br />
<table><tr><td> etc etc <br />
<button onclick="fn2">Button</button><br />
</td></tr></table>
If the button is pressed fn2 is called, then fn1 is called.
I would like JUST fn2 to be called. Is there any way I can stop fn1 from being called please?
Thanks in advance.

If fn1 is called from the onclick handler of a parent element of the button, you need to set event.cancelBubble = true from within fn2 :
<html>
<head>
<script language="javascript">
<!--
function fn1() {
writeMsg('fn1()');
}
function fn2() {
writeMsg('fn2()');
event.cancelBubble = true;
}
function writeMsg(Text) {
txt.insertAdjacentText('beforeEnd', Text + '\n');
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div onclick="fn1()">
<button onclick="fn2()">Test</button>
</div>
<textarea id="txt" rows="10" cols="50"></textarea>
</body>
</html>

Can I just call...
myDataSet.SaveXml(Server.MapPath(filepah));
...on my ASP.NET webpage to save a DataSet to a XML file on the server?
(Of course the server needs to have write access)

LOL I love these type of questions: Why don't you just try it Rickard?
It does work and works quite well, but please just try things, you won't break anything if you do. Push buttons! That is how I learnt
Oh and you need to put in a filename as well, not just the filepath. e.g. myDataSet.SaveXml(Server.MapPath(".") + "\myfile.xml");

Well, why I asked was: if DotNetPlayGround doesn't had write access I couldn't find out if it was possible or not.. if you know what I mean!?
So then I asked this to be sure it was possible!
Well I used to try things before... but I can't get IIIs to run and the WebMatrix server is not a server with many conigurations possibilities!

Yeah sorry I snapped at you. I was on the phone to a PC-illeterate while typing my reply to your post and I was getting annoyed because she was SO SCARED to do anything. In all my years of using computers the worst thing that has happened is I lost a hard drive, and that was simply hardware failure. So I try to stress to people that the only way to learn is just to click, press buttons, try things and don't be scared. Sure there are times to be careful, but most of the time it is far better to go wild.

How come? What OS are you running?
I guess I am quite spoilt in having proper hosting servers (not live of course) which I am free to play around with and if something goes wrong I have a guy I just call up and he fixes my "performance tinkering."

When I click the start button it making a timeout or something. It takes ages for it to show me that it didn't started!!
I run Win2000. I have WinME and Win2000 installed on the same computer, WinME for school and Win2000 for my hobby

Hi all,
I want to write a component to change the layout of the form. Ex: when I click that component, Back Color property of all controls on page will change to Red (at design-time, not at run-time). Is it possible to do that? How can I do that?
Thank you

Hello,
I want to use tab controls in my ASP document. Where do I get the tab controls? The tab control should not use the querystring or get method to go from one tab to another.
Thanks

How do I create a "latest news article" viewer, which are very common. The CodeProject home page has one on the right side. I need it to basically show the last X articles, read from the database of course. It should show the first Y characters of the article. I'm specifically wondering which control to drop onto my web form. Thanks in advance.

I created a aspx page and it runs just fine in my computer, but when i run it on server, i recieved this error:
URI formats are not supported.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: URI formats are not supported.
Source Error:

Line 15: Dim myDataSet as new DataSet
Line 16: dataAdapter.Fill(myDataSet, "Messages")

Could you give a little more of the source code and explain what you wanted it to do? XxDataAdapter.Fill is overloaded pretty heavily, so it's useful to see how you wanted it to work.
There's probably no need to include the entire code listing for a page, but anything surrounding this statement -- primarily anything that creates dataAdapter or interacts with it.

Here is the code to bind data to my datalist, that's all that related to the dataAdapter:
Dim myConnection as new OleDbConnection(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("connectionString"))
Dim dataAdapter as new OleDbDataAdapter("select * from Messages order by MessageID desc", myConnection)
Dim myDataSet as new DataSet
dataAdapter.Fill(myDataSet, "Messages")
Dim myTable as new DataTable
myTable = myDataSet.Tables("Messages")
DataList1.Datasource = myTable
Datalist1.DataBind()

Hi!
Zek3vil wrote:

Could it be that your connection string, i.e. ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("connectionString") contains an URL or something? Maybe this is not supported in a connection string? I once had a similiar exception with dataSet.WriteXml(URL) so maybe this is the problem..

It seems a bit wrong way around
Try this:
Dim myDataSet as new DataSet
Dim myTable as new DataTable
myTable = myDataSet.Tables.Add("Messages")
dataAdapter.Fill(myDataSet, "Messages")
Hope this works, I use C# unfortunately, so I hope the VB is correct I see only C# shows up on MSDN (bug# 765176786 ).
Cheers

I am working on a project that uses an apsx page as a search page. When the search is performed user controls are added to the page and data is populated accordingly. When a second search is done the user control needs to be cleared and repopulated accordingly. How do I go about clearing module level variables and the user control? Simply put my question is, how do I clear all the posted data?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
