hi,
When you are giving the server.mappth there is no need of specifying the full path.
just specify
String connectionstring="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"+"DataSource="+Server.MapPath("PersonalDetails1.xls")+";"+"Extended Properties=Excel 8.0";
If the Excel file is in the root folder it will be automatically taken out.
Thanks,
Thani

We've developed an application using .NET, and have installed this on our LAN web server. Part of the application uses Crystal Reports, and we've got this working using the "Merge Modules". All OK so far.
But we would now like to deploy the application onto an ISP Webserver running IIS. Obviously we don't manage the web server, we can only upload our application.
Can anybody offer any advice on how to get Crystal report components on an ISP web server, and exactly what do we need to ask the ISP to do.
Please Send Me The Process That I Can Deploye Crystal Reports Into Webserver, or It Will Run Inside Webserver.pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee send me the process
Thanks

Hi all. I have this problem that I hope somebody can help me with. I am working on a windows 2003 64 bit system and at first the ASP.NET tab wouldn't show in iis. I got this sorted out with a bit of Registery magic but now none of my ASP.NET websites will run in iis. I unregistered and reregistered the framework but that did not help. Does anybody have any ideas what else I can do. Thanks in advance

I checked the tab again and a person can not edit the configuration on it. Don't know if this makes a differance

Open up the IIS Manager, and expand the computer node that corresponds to the server. Highlight the Web Services Extensions node - in the view pane a set of extensions is displayed - one of which is the ASP.NET extension, which will say Prohibited. Click on the ASP.NET extension, and click the Allow button.
By default, IIS now does not set up options until you tell it to, so you have to explicitly enable things like ASP.NET, FTP, etc.

I have some libraries and apps written in C++/CLI and C#, and I'd like to obfuscate/protect the source somehow. I've seen a lot of you say how it's a waste of time, and I know there's no silver bullet here. I'm not looking to make it impossible to decompile my software, just more difficult. In particular, I'd like my source to be un-viewable with .NET Reflector and other similar tools. Reflector makes it dead easy to decompile .NET apps, and any developer with 1/1000 of a brain could figure it out. If someone really wants to decompile my code, they should at least have 3/4 of a brain
I read a thread here awhile back about code protection and saw someone recommend .NET Reactor[^]. I've been experimenting with the trial and so far it seems to do what I want - I can't view the implementation of any functions, and the names of all my private members and functions come up as non-printable characters. However, I can still plainly see all the class and public function and property names (but not their implementations). I'd like to obfuscate everything, including all public information, but if I do that, then any app that tries to use the protected library throws a TypeLoad exception (or something like that). I tried emailing their support a couple of days ago, but I haven't heard back yet. Has anyone had any luck with .NET Reactor?
Or, if anyone knows of a better tool with a decent price tag (free / open source is always great ), I'm open to alternatives.
Thanks,
Dybs

Xenocode definitely looks like a great tool (especially being able to integrate the .NET Framework components into the binary), but it's a bit pricey for us. If anyone knows of something under $1000, that would be great. It's hard to compete with .NET Reactor's price tag of only $280 for a company-wide license. Or is this a case of "you get what you pay for"?
Thanks,
Dybs

I've write code two style but the same function on my application (Window Application)
1- my form has been load data from table in database in to DataTable and bind dataTable to dataGridView Controls.
in this form need to do any function like insert delete update query..
style one:===================================================================
Public Shared Sub addNewProduct(ByVal p As product)
Try
cmdAddProduct.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmdAddProduct.CommandText = "NewProduct"
cmdAddProduct.Connection = database.cn
With cmdAddProduct.Parameters
.Add("@PCode", SqlDbType.VarChar, 20).Value = p.ProductCode
.Add("@BCode", SqlDbType.VarChar, 30).Value = p.BarCode
.Add("@Des", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50).Value = p.Description
.Add("@Unit", SqlDbType.Int).Value = p.Unit
.Add("@UnitPrice", SqlDbType.Float).Value = p.UnitPrice
.Add("@Stock", SqlDbType.Int).Value = p.StockBalance
.Add("@photo", SqlDbType.Binary).Value = p.Photo
.Add("@sms", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
End With
cmdAddProduct.ExecuteNonQuery()
cmdAddProduct.Dispose()
Catch ex As Exception
Throw ex
End Try
End Sub=======================================================================
for example style two=========================================================
internal static void Add(Customer value)
{
try
{
//data is dataTable
DataRow row = data.NewRow();
row[0] = Customers.NextID();
row[1] = value.name;
row[2] = value.ssn ;
row[3] = value.phone ;
row[4] = value.address ;
data.Rows.Add(row);
da.Update(data);
}
catch (SqlException) { throw; }
}
Could you tell me which one is better for working with biggest database?

I'd vote for the first one. The reason is that a DataTable loads all rows into memory, whilst the first one just creates a command and executes that.

You may find that you get more help if you form your question clearer, and with a little more humility. While I appreciate that English may not be your first language, this reads like a command and we aren't here to serve you - a "please" wouldn't go amiss.

They're from wherever talented people are. By studying hard, and living, sleeping, eating and breathing computing, you'll be well on your way.
