Plug the phone in. If you have Vista then Mobile Device Center starts, if XP then if ActiveSync is present it will attempt to sync.

I created a mobile web page which have two labels and two textboxes and a command button. I run this small application and got the result in browser as .aspx file.
My question is how will it translate to WML? I've an Emulator accepts only either HTML or WML. but my resultant URL is in .aspx. How can i convert my custom page(ex:abc.aspx) into html or WML page to run in emulator? Can any one help me in this concept.
Thanks & Regards,
Ravi

ASPX is the extention on the web page but the mime type is text/html. You don't need to do anything. The page is being rendered to the device as an HTML page. Ignore the extention in the address bar. One could just as easily send a sound or an image to a device using an ASPX page.

I'm considering a new phone and have the following considerations/requirements:
1. good video playback - support "hi-res" videos in MP4, MOV, WMV, ... and NOT choppy
2. good keypad for texting or accessing the Net via cell phone
3. Slim, sleek phone - NOT bulky or heavy (usually kept in pockets, not on a holster.)
... and while I was looking, I found two mobile devices my carrier (Verizon, USA) provides:
A. Samsung Omnia w Win Mobile 6 - $200 approx.
B. HTC Touch Pro w Win Mobile 6 - $350 approx.
So my question is...
has anyone done any programming for either and in general, which would be more suited for a casual developer who likes watching videos on his phone?
Much thanks,
John

Both devices are Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional devices. You would use the exact same tools to write a program for them. For general development the two devices use the exact same APIs. The same could be said of any Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional device. They would only differ in a few device specific APIs for reading the accelerometers. The HTC accelerometer has been reverse engineered and information about it is available online. Samsung has made their APIs bublic and you can get information on their device specific APIs from the Samsung Mobile Innovator site (http://innovator.samsungmobile.com). The device specific APIs that you will have access to on the Omnia include the Accelerometer, Haptic Feedback, Optical Mouse, TV Out, Orientation, Light Sensors, and the Camera Flash.
I can't speak on video capabilities as I've never played video on either device. Though while both devices have video out ports neither outputs true high definition. Such devices are yet to come (probably 2007).

How to create icons in Visual studio 2008 for smart device application (Pocket PC 5 Emulator)?
|
|
|
|
|
The icon format on Windows Mobile devices is the same as the format used on the desktop. You can create a new one by foing into the "File" menu in Visual Studio and selecting "New File" and choose the file type "Icon."

You can use any version of .net CF
If you are using earlier version of .net compact framework (i.e .net 2.0), there is no need to install it on Win mobile 6.0 as it already supports it. But if you are using .net 3.5, you need to install its cab file Win mobile 6.0.
To get Win mobile 6.0 Emulator you need to install its SDK from Microsoft Download center.
Hope this helps you.

Hi!
Im developing in for windows mobile 6 and Im using native C++ code with msxml2.h, to receive xml objects from RSS.
When an rss-server doesnt send out a header content-type with MIME-type of xml (like "Content-Type: text/xml") I get problems when trying to fetch the xml object from the request object (pIXMLHTTPRequest->responseXML;) and the xml doesnt seem to include any tree-data.
I can still see the actual source-xml data through pIXMLHTTPRequest->GetresponseText();
When the content-type header is set to an xml mime-type I can retrieve the tree-structure from pIXMLHTTPRequest->responseXML. One solution would be to change the server content-type but that is not always possible, and content type from rss is nowadays "application/rss+xml".
Example theese 2 rss are identical but only one is fetched correctly in responseXML
http://91.90.27.250/panel/working.php
http://91.90.27.250/panel/notworking.php
My code is basically (the rss includes "item" tags)
HRESULT hr;
MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr pXMLDoc = NULL;
MSXML2::IXMLHTTPRequestPtr pIXMLHTTPRequest = NULL;
hr=pIXMLHTTPRequest.CreateInstance("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
hr = pIXMLHTTPRequest->open("GET", L"http://test/~joynes/rssValid.php", false);
hr = pIXMLHTTPRequest->send();
pXMLDoc=pIXMLHTTPRequest->responseXML;
MSXML2::IXMLDOMNodeListPtr nlItems;
nlItems = pXMLDoc->getElementsByTagName("item");
MSXML2::IXMLDOMNodePtr nodeItem2;
while(SUCCEEDED (nodeItem2 = nlItems->nextNode()) && nodeItem2 != NULL)
{
printf("SUCCESS!!!!!\n");
}

I have developed an application for Win Mobile 5.0 in Visual Studio 2008. My application involves an access of data from SQL server mobile database. My application can access the data from the database when deployed on the Win mobile 5.0 pocket pc emulator. Now i have created a CAB file of my project in Visual Studio 2008 and then deployed this CAB file on Windows Mobile 6.0 (I am using HTC P3450 handset). When i run my application on the Win mobile handset i cannot access the data from sql server mobile database. What is the reason? Do i have to copy the SQL server mobile database to the Win mobile?
When i deploy the application on the emulator i can see the database in Query Analyser 3.5. I then connect the database to the project through Query Analyser 3.5. I am using .Net CF 3.5 and hence i have installed its cab file on the handset. But i could not see the Query Analyser 3.5 on the handset. Please help.
Thanks in advance
