VB.NET is the language the app is written in. It is not the application type. No, you cannot convert a Windows Forms app into a Web App without rewriting at least the user interface layer BY HAND.

Thanks for the input.
Can you plz provide me any details

Details of what?? What's so hard to understand about sitting down and redesigning your app from scratch??

I would. I would charge per hour to replace it

Hi everybody,
I am planning a PIN PAD and to get response from the device needs to send the command CE as only single byte, does anyone know how can I do?
Thanks

Considering that is two characters, the minimum number of bytes you need is two. I think you better get out the programmers documentation on your pin pad and read it again.

The System.Drawing.Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon method. You should cache the icons to gain performance. There is also this[^] and more[^] here in Code Project.

I am working on small application in Visual Basic. I have datagridview control that should enable users to add a "Operation" and "Price of operation" into database. I can enter one operation. Because of some reason that operation shows twice in my database. But I need to add about 30 operations, and their prices. For example:
Operation Price
1 450
2 300
3 500
. .
. .
. .
When this is over user should click the button "Save" and save those values in database. I'm working with MS Access database.
So,if anyone can help me...
|
|
|
|
|
In the button click event do the following
Create a connection to the access database
loop through each row in the DGV
create an insert query to insert the data from the row into he target table
execute the query on the connection for each row
create a select statement that will retrieve the inserted records from the database
reload the DGV with the selected records
The last 2 steps are not required but I like to be sure the data has been created properly.

I have created help files for my project and can access them via f1 key. How can I make it possible to access the same fro a menu item?
|
|
|
|

Your motive is not clear but you may first need to read your help file using StreamReader and display into a rich text box in the help form. then you can use
helpform.ShowDialog() to display the help file from menu item.
Hope it works!
Use following link for more information on streamreader:

What I'v done is created help files (.hlp) with the vb help workshop and after associating them with the project they are accessible on pressing f1 key. However I'd also like to have them accessed from a menu item say mnuHelp, how do I go about this?

Just write the code you used to show the help file inside an event handler for the MenuItem's Click. You may want to set the MenuItem's ShortcutKeys to F1 instead of the keyboard event handler.

This should be easy, but I’m stuck.
I need an array of unspecified length.
I define it thus
Dim arrTest() as string
I try to populate it
arrTest(i) = value
I get the error - Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Use the “new keyword to create an object instance.
The new keyword does not work on the type string. How do I create this object?
Thanks

Use
Dim arrTest() as string = new string(){}
That gets you an array but it's size is not specified.
You also need to ReDim the array - look it up in the online help.
You can just use the ReDim with your existing Dim if you want but whatever you do you're going to have to use it somewhere.

Yeah, what I ended up doing was similar
Dim arrTest(1) as string
Then once I know what i is I -
reDim arrTest(i)
Not exactly a bug, but pretty weird if you ask me.
Thanks

I'm afraid that's the way the language works.
If you think about it your first Dim is just saying I want to use an array, but it does not say how big an array. Nor does it actually create an array - that does not happen until you do a 'new'.
In any case glad you have a solution.
Might be worth looking at Dave K's reply - he's usually very good and in this case his is a better solution.

If you don't know the size of the array ahead of time, just use a Generic collection instead, such as:
Dim test As new List(Of String)
test.Add("Some string")
|
|
|
|
|
Thanks, but I really do need an array as I end up putting the array in an array with another array.
I just end up doing this -
Dim testArray(1)
reDim testArray(i)
Thanks

Dave's...code is still better
Dim test As New List(Of String)
test.Add("Some string")
test.Add("Some other string")
test.Add("and another")
Dim sa() As String = test.ToArray
