Sorry - this should be fixed in about 5 mins. One more update to go and it should be good as new.
Apologies for this.

Lately CP has been loading very slowly in Firefox 3 for me after awhile. It starts fine, but after clicking a few links, the status bar just says "Waiting for codeproject.com", and it may take 5 minutes before the page finally loads. If I restart Firefox, then it's fine again for a little bit and then happens again. This only happens on CP for me. I've tried this on both my home and work machines. Doesn't happen with IE 7. Tried clearing my cache and history, no effect. Is this a site issue or just something I keep forgetting to do?
Thanks,
Dybs

I've updated the version of jQuery we use to 1.3.2 which I'm hoping will ease things up. Are these specific pages you are viewing that show the issue?

Chris,
Thanks for the update. No particular pages, it happens with any forum or article I visit, or even when I'm trying to preview or post a message. I'll poke around for awhile and see how it goes now.
Thanks,
Dybs

i saw this this morning ~8;30 EDT. It's really annoying when it happens on the first attempt to visit the site because if you do a reload or try again in a second tab it marks everything read. IIRC in the past I've seen this happen before in Opera as well.

It's consistently refusing to misbehave for me
Were you viewing articles or message boards or a mix of both? Javascript on or off? Any add-ins (GreaseMonkey/CPHog, profilers etc)?

I've only seen it when viewing message boards, but I rarely browse the articles so that doesn't mean much. JS on. Plugigs:
AdBlock Plus 1.0.2
AdBlock PLus Element Hiding Helper 1.0.5
MS >net Framework Assistant
PDF Download 1.0.1.2
User Agent Switcher 0.6.11

Is the issue easily repeatable? If so, could I beg a favour and ask that you try disabling the AdBlock add-ins and see if that helps? It could be our Ad serving javascript is messing with the AdBlock or vice versa

Unfortunately it only happens once or twice a week, and I'm skeptical that ABP and Opera's add blockers are similar enough to choke identically. I've encountered a few times (mostly on the lounge) when it appears to hit every time I click next. If that happens again I'll turn off the plugin and see what happens.

Chris,
I have one more issue in the fix. Now when I click the disgraced profile, it loads like the following:
Member Profile: Rockstartraders
Unable to load member 6158236.
I would suggest the name of the member should also be suppressed because in case some obscenity is used as profile name that would show up.
Precisely, the fix still has one security vulnerability left to be addressed.

You mean something like: "Sorry, but this member has been banned from this site"? Or probably even have that profile link route to CP home page? I agree with you.

I went back to check my bookmarked posts. Under the heading Site Bugs, I find several posts that were to the Algorithms forum. It doesn't bother me, but something is wrong with the database.

Thanks for the heads up. We'll look into this today.

Elina,
If "Should be good now" you meant that you fixed the code so it will put the entries under the correct header in the future, then I must accept that it has been done. If, instead, you meant that you moved the entries under the correct header, then I do not agree. The same entries are still under the Site Bugs header.
As I said in the original post, I do NOT need the bookmarks moved under the correct header, I was just informing you of the problem.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
I am sorry for the previous mistakes,
but it should be good right now (I checked, and i see only Site Bug related messages under Site Bugs header)

Elaina,
I probably won't be bookmarking many more forum entries. I was doing it mainly to get a good ThreadView (which had been broken at the time, but now is fixed, Thank You). In fact the current ThreadView looks like what you get when you click on a bookmarked forum entry in My Bookmarks. In fact, I think I suggested that as a fix for the problem.
Did you find out what had happened in the code to miss-assign these entries to begin with, or is it just another "HeisenBug" that can't be found and cannot be reproduced?
Dave.
|
|
|
|
|
Hi Dave,
No, I found what was causing the bug, so it was easily reproduced and easily fixed.
(It was missing the Order By ForumIds when getting messages)
What is a mystery, is, how the old version of stored procedures got on live server, causing you
to wonder what "Should be good now" means.
Sincerely,
Elina
