I'm trying to install Silverlight 3 beta onto a laptop that doesn't have an internet connection, and is running the following
WinXP SP/3 (32-bit)
VS2008 SP1
.Net 3.5 SP1
No prior versions of Silverlight have been installed.
Silverlight Developer is installed, and when I tried to install the Tools package (that contains the SDK), I got two of these messages in the install log.
WinHTTPDetectAutoProxyConfigURL failed with error: 12180
followed by this:
Final Result Installation failed with error code: (0x800C0005).
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the link, but (gak!) the site is offline. It must be a sliverlight problem.

Okay, the site is working now, but I have a complaint (as you might have guessed). NOWHERE on the MS download site does it say that you must have an internet connection to *install* this stuff. Further, there's no method for downloading files for an offline install other than running the installer with a secret parameter. THIS is the kind of crap that that pisses me off at Microsoft. This info should be *in plain view* on the download site.
This means that I have to re-burn the frakking CD I made with the downloaded setup stuff. Granted, that's not that a big deal, but I've lost a whole frakking day as a result.
I know, none of this is your fault, but since you posted your "I don't want to see your messages" message, I felt the need to hold this up as an example of why I get pissed off.
BTW, thanks for the solution.

Yes, I dislike this as well. More and more MS stuff is like this. What's the rationale? Also, I've noticed that these online installs often seem to download files at a slower rate than a regular download meaning it can take absolutely ages to install even something like C# Express.
Btw, John, why are you playing with Silverlight 3 given your constant moaning about MS and WPF, etc?

Management temporarily went insane and considered switching from WPF to Silverlight for our LOB application. The reasoning was that they didn't want to "force our customers to have to upgrade their OS to something compatible with WPF). Everything is fine now - they discovered that just 20 out of 1000 users are using an OS older than XP, and figured that wasn't a big enough chunk of the user base to worry about it, so they went back on their meds and the wild look in their eyes is almost completely gone. We're sticking with WPF. (That was a very close call.)

It looks ike you just have a simple wsHttpBinding binding on your endpoint
so it should just work.
Can you type "http://Tauseef-pc:8731/WCF/Service1/: into a browser and get a
response?
Have you made any changes to the client config or are you using the default
generated configuration?
Also set includeExceptionDetailInFaults to True for debugging.

And this works from another client PC?
What about my other question...
Have you made any changes to the client config or are you using the default
generated configuration?

Then you need to look at that - this is an IT issue.
The "Tauseef-pc" part of "http://Tauseef-pc:8731/WCF/Service1/" is what remote clients
aren't recognizing, or maybe a firewall is blocking incoming connections, or any number
of other IT issues...

but i can still have full system access from that pc to my wcf hosted pc, i can access shared files, etc

Right....I'm not sure what the exact issue is, but whatever it is, outside
clients are unable to reach your service endpoint with the URL you are using.
What about trying the IP....

I think he may be calling out the lack of the equivalent controls that ASP.NET has. It also makes it look like the membership system and all that role based security is missing.
I myself am looking for examples of this and looking into the sever that I have found, many once again using services

You can check RIA service if you are using Silverlight 3.

Are you marking the mouse events "handled" after you handle them?

thank you for your response. I have written the mouse down, mouse up and mouse move events for parent canvas and child canvas to drag and drop those canvas.
But If I drag parent cavas it is working fine if i try to drag child canvas parent canvas events are also firing. So,I have put e.handled=true in child canvas mouse down and mouse up events now its not firing parent canvas mouse down and mouse up but parent canvas mouse move event is firing.Because of that if I drag child canvas parent canvas is also dragging. Please help me how to stop firing parent canvas mouse move event.there is no handled=true in mouse move event to set.

I typically just add a flag to my class like "bool isInDrag;".
Set the flag true on mousedown, false on mouse up, and only handle mousemove event
if the flag is true.
You may need two flags if your handlers are in the same class
